this is the ending i wanted and hoped to get if i got 5000+ war assets and 100% galaxy at war readiness:

Who's the artist of this? Do you have a link?

The most compelling reason is showing Shepard alive in the Destroy ending.

I got that with my ending. I'm now wondering that if the indoctrination thing is real, is the part with the Normandy on another planet maybe just a dream?

I just replayed the ending and noticed that the two squad mates that get off of the Normandy after it has crashed and join Joker are the two squad mates you bring with you to the final battle on Earth. I find that very strange.

Not in my case. I took Garrus and James on the final mission but Joker, Javik and Liara came out of the Normandy in my ending.

Following the Indoctrination theory, everything that happens on the citadel is a dream, and as part of that dream Shepard dreams about a best possible outcome that is actually impossible. The two people that get out of the ship in addition to Joker are always your two squadmates, that were with you in your charge to the beam.
Nope. I took Vega and Javik. I saw Liara, Joker, and Javik come out of the ship during my play through. I think who comes out of the ship is random or something.

Yeah, but 3 did an amazing job with returning characters (Garrus became a god, Mordin was already a legend and got even higher, Thane got a wonderful tribute, etc...)

To me ME2 only introduced them, While ME3 just went into a little more depth of them

Well..Atleast to the ones I liked

I didn't say it didn't do a great job with the returning characters, I really enjoyed what they did. I just thought the characters was the best thing about ME2.

No slight to ME3, trust me.

No, it can be edi

Through the synthetic ending, yes. Which would still fit into the "best possible scenario". EDI was in the London FOB.

Odd, but still impossible, since everyone besides Joker was in London. I had my squad come out of the ship both times I played through the ending.

Besides, the beam on Earth runs through the Citadel, no?

Couldn't it be the same damn beam?

The one beam is between the Citadel and Earth as a transportation, the other is between the crucible and Citadel. If you look up when you're at star child you can see the crucible.

imo, i think its real...nothing else makes sense. The 'destroy' ending is the only one where the reapers die, therefore he has resisted full indoctrination. that also happens to be the ending where we get that cut scene of Shepard breathing.

and one of the characters i brought with me was found getting out of the normandy on that planet, there's no way of explaining that...

Oh well, if he is telling the truth, I'm never buying another product from Bioware and their experiment with these games has been a giant failure. Look forward to hearing about their future 3rd rate shooters with RPG elements. Would this be my anger stage then?

I feel sorta the same way, but it's not really out of anger (just apathy at this point).

I simply feel that if the ending is what it appears to be, then I am no longer particularly interested in further stories in this universe.

Plus, if this mess of a narrative is what they consider a fitting end to a series like this, then I'm fairly unlikely to invest my time and/or money into any future games they put out.

He did like 2 tracks though. Just weird that they decided not to bring back Wall yet ended up reusing a bunch of old tracks.

Well, I'd think you want to keep that continuity from the previous games- but the dramatic stuff that Mansell did in the beginning/end of the game is off the charts, IMO.

As for the reasons behind Wall's departure for the third game, the game's wiki page says only that he would have no involvement with the game due to "undetailed and complicated reasons."

Make what you will of that...

The characters being more tied to the story in 3 is why I would put it ahead of ME2. I just cannot and will not ever be able to care about all their family or friend problems. Even you Garrus, just put a cap in that asshole's head and lets get back to business.
Yeah I can go with that. I still feel like being first introduced to all these different characters, and then recruiting them for this suicide mission was really compelling. It made a great first impression on me, and made me care about what happens to them in ME3.

ME1 will always be the best for me. I play games like Mass Effect mainly to get lost and immersed in an unfamiliar universe. Almost always, I feel the first in a series does it the best because the art direction is always new, the music is new, and you are introduced to the major characters for the first time. You have no expectations coming in.

Sequels will most likely have better gameplay, but it will never have the same effect as the first in the series, especially not with music like this for the first time: Vigil

While I admit that the exploration was repetitive, mako had horrible controls, the elevator rides were long, but all of that added to the atmosphere of how immense the galaxy was. Ilos, Feros, Virmire, Noveria, etc, even though they were linear, always felt like large worlds because of the mako approach.
Without the vehicles, I never felt the same way in the other two games: the game world in me2 and me3 felt so much smaller, the citadel especially felt so much smaller (especially without the elevator rides for some reason).
While ME2 had some really cool locations (reaper, geth base, etc), I didn't feel as attached to the characters or the story, or did I feel the game world was as big and alluring. So, overall

ME1>>>>ME3=ME2

Q: What did you think of the ending? Is this addressed in the story?
A: I've seen the uproar online about the ending and understand the fan perspective. Personally I respect the creative choices the team made and had no problems with how the story ended -- it made you feel something, even if that feeling was uncomfortable.

The Final Hours addresses the challenges BioWare faces in writing a story with defined parameters in a game environment where players want to feel like they have choice. Ultimately your opinion on the ending will depend on who you see as the "author" of Mass Effect's story -- BioWare or the player.

The ending of the game is discussed in the App and there are some notes from the team about how they were thinking about the ending. Since this story was completed before the public release of the game, I do not address the fan petitions or reaction. I hope to update the story with a new chapter on this down the road.

PSA: the final hours of ME3 is out on ipad.

Anyone with 3 bucks and an ipad wanna check it out for hints about certain theories?
No Galaxy Tab love? I'm so sick of this IOS exclusive mess. You would think these "smart" companies would realize that the more platforms you are on would more than likely equal more profit or sales. Man I'm so sick of this generations business model.

I changed my mind! Now I totally believe all this flimsy bs must be real! It can't possibly be bioware's laziness like the other 2 games!!!!

That example is dumb and doesn't have any merit, but the Indoctrination theory has more supporting evidence for it than the "everything was real" theory.

It takes a lot of money to develop an app for multiple platforms. So, no it really wouldn't be that cost prohibitive.

Of course, they are going to pick the one with the biggest market.

You made that choice when you got a Galaxy Tab...

lol If I didn't have my Bible on this thing, it would be completely worthless. Wifi only makes it even more worthless.

Android is in position to catch up to and overtake iOS in tablet sales in a few year or so. And this site has conservative forecasts as well.
There's no logic in saying any of us with an Android tab should be counted out based on market share alone. Android currently has 40%, which is a shitload of people.

What, where the fuck are you getting these numbers?

it's going to take a lot more than a few months for budget tablets to overtake the iPad, unfortunately.

I feel like one of the few people who thought ME2 was a much better game than ME3, with the exception of combat. But the combat isn't the main draw of the series for me. Although being totally hypocritical, if ME1 had better combat and aced he elevators (or at least, make the banter exactly as long as the ride), I would've liked it far more than ME2. As it is, ME1 and ME2 balance out; I may like ME1 more but find ME2 more enjoyable to play, if that makes sense. I'm not really down on ME3 as much as I'm up on ME1 and ME2.

So I just completed the game last night and this is my first time in this thread. Am I getting this right?

Paragon/Good ending = controlling reapers

Renegade/Bad ending = wiping out all synthetics

??? ending = Robo-Joker and Flesh-EDI settling on the jungle planet

I got the 3rd ending, with Liara getting out of the Normandy with EDI and Joker. No idea if thats considered the "best" one or whatever, but I sure felt like all my options were shitty. None were what I wanted. The whole "Hero sacrifices himself" thing is so fucking played out. Is it too much to ask for Shepard and Liara to have those little blue children and live happily ever after in the new age of galactic peace?

So anyway, was mine the "best" ending or would that have been option one?

Initial thoughts center on me agreeing with those giving ME1 props. Story, music, presentation, and even the Mako all come together in such an amazing way despite the imperfection of some of the game systems. Best example of it all coming together being the unrivaled Virmire scenario. Even some of the little extra details that didn't carry forward from ME1 I miss, such as benefiting from cold-resistant suits on some worlds.

Placement of ME2 and ME3 I'm still deliberating. ME2 was great with the varied pre-battle scenario machinations, for example. Such as talk to him or her over there, disable that, do that first on Omega? ME3 is much more streamlined, sometimes to the benefit of the narrative but other times severely limiting choice (in both battle scenarios and squad selection). ME2 I also liked most of the new cast and/or romance options. ME3, I don't really want to talk to most of the new ME3 crew save to rifle through dialog as fast as I can simply to get rep/Par/Ren points. EDI excepted. A trilogy ME1/ME2 import (or at least ME2) is a must to me.

ME3 excels in amped-up graphics and tightness of the in-battle engine and gameplay. I also give it kudos for character integration (or not) from previous games. Romanced Liara in 1 but Tali in 2? You will be confronted about it. Garrus died in 2? Then he's dead in 3. Another massive improvement for me is the variety of weaponry to experiment with.

But still, if ME2 simply had that weapon variety of ME3...my choice for the better of the two would be easier.

Add: bah, forget the hedging and hawing, I'm giving ME2 a very close 2nd to ME1, could even switch on whim

Yeah the ending was disappointing but I enjoyed the game a lot.

Is it possible to save David Anderson from dying? ... probably not, but worth asking.

You can only save him from TIM actually killing him dead. He still gets wounded by you, and eventually bleeds out.

Also, holy fuck this thread moves fast

On another note, lol @ the BSN Chris Priestly Sticky. "We're listening to all the discussion, but don't have anything to say yet because we don't know what to say that won't have you fans in a greater uproar than you already are because enough people haven't finished the game."

I don't play for the combat either. I actually don't enjoy the combat system.

But I do play for the main narrative, and while ME2's character sidequests were fun, ME2 felt like a lot of character-DLC slapped together into a $60 holding pattern while the Reaper plot was shifted to the backburner until ME3 arrived.

The Reaper invasion, the galactic harvesting, the cycles, etc. captured my imagination the most in ME1. After immersing myself into a rich sci-fi universe, the reveal from Vigil blew my mind and made ME1 one of my instant all-time favorite games. In second place were the Krogan v. Errbody dynamic and the Quarian v. Geth relationship. ME3 satisfied me a hell of a lot more on those fronts than ME2 ever did.

Wow there's been 23 new pages since i went to bed last night after a gamut of emotions. I actually laid in bed looking at the ceiling thinking about ME, the characters, what happened, what happens next (if anything), my Liara (lol). So cliffnotes on the last 23 pages? any good info/rumors..that type of thing

Its important to note that all those examples are from finished films. They didn't go back post theatrical release and film a new ending.

You are confusing one medium's limitations with another one's strengths. In film you do not have the luxury of temporal consistency. Like Basín mentioned, film footage is a capture of one single moment in time that can never be re-created. Thus it is very hard to go back and re-shoot certain scenes years after the film have been released. In digital games we do have that luxury - we already have the exact same assets, animation trees, texture work, etc. All that is needed to do is conduct a new scene or level, free from the effects of time.

Additionally, even if we presume your argument is valid, some re-edited films get the original actors to come in and do new voice work over the old footage. An example is the Good, the Bad & The Ugly restoration from 2002: Despite the film being ~40 years old, they still got Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach in to do some voice work for the new scenes.

Another example is how Peter Jackson got many of the actors and sets back after the theatrical release of the LOTR films in order to shoot the necessary extra scenes for the Extended Editions.

I just had a mission where my Shepherds eyelids disappeared. So she had the big bug eyes. It was pretty funny. Good times.
Miranda's eyelids and teeth/lips were red after her dad died in Sanctuary in my game, which made for an odd conversation. Looked like somebody punched her in both eyes and the mouth

Christ Priestly has reacted to the debacle.

We appreciate everyone’s feedback about Mass Effect 3 and want you to know that we are listening. Active discussions about the ending are more than welcome here, and the team will be reviewing it for feedback and responding when we can. Please note, we want to give people time to experience the game so while we can’t get into specifics right now, we will be able to address some of your questions once more people have had time to complete the game. In the meantime, we’d like to ask that you keep the non-spoiler areas of our forums and our social media channels spoiler free.

We understand there is a lot of debate on the Mass Effect 3 ending and we will be more than happy to engage in healthy discussions once more people get to experience the game. We are listening to all of your feedback.

In the meantime, let's give appreciation to Commander Shepard. Whether you loved the ME3 ending or didn't or you just have a lot of questions, he/she has given many of us some of the best adventures we have had while playing games. What was your favorite moment? smilie

They are listening (aka needing time to figure out how to fix the game (costs, PR consequences, etc.)

I'll summarize it for you:

- The ending sucks
- The ending is a dream
- Lol, the ending's not a dream
- BioWare sucks
- BioWare says it's our fault
- The ending sucks

I think that's pretty accurate.
