Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

But I support the existence of the original choices alongside the newer ones!

Adding newer choices can invalidate the original set of choices or change the entire context of the choices, like I pointed out. Adding choices could also mean adding additional lines or sequences in the events leading up to the choice, which is effectively the same as film revisionism.

Bioware now actively design on behalf of their devoted BSN audience of fanfic-writing creeps? Thinking about the brainstorming sessions that led to anthropomorphic EDI makes my skin crawl. I'm surprised there wasn't a "gather Quarian sweat" fetch quest.

And this attitude pretty much explains the intensity of the backlash. When you go out of your way to indulge your fans' creepiest fantasies, you open yourself up for this kind of shitstorm. This is what makes the whole disaster so entertaining to watch: you really can't pity Bioware here. They brought it on themselves.

Fixed.

EDI is a babe you guys shut up.

Do we have any explanation for this yet?

And this is another reason why I hate the modern Bioware. Weirdo developers.

If Bioware really wanted to impress me, they should go CDProjekt on their fans and release a Mass Effect 3: Enhanced Edition:

Technical fixes
  • Make Javik free for all players (maybe even digital soundtrack and art book as well)
  • High res texture pack for PC
  • Improved animations
  • Holster function + Film grain back
  • Adjustable FOV
  • Even higher diffculties (like TW2's Dark difficulties)
  • Improved Quest log
  • Less camera and animation bugs

Hope I'm not approaching fan fic territory
. Anybody got other wishes?

That's not going down.

That, too. But I'm really wondering how this whole situation will alter their core fanbase. Are they addicted to this special brand of escapism, and will buy their games no matter what, or will the hate consume their loyalty? ME3's ending is so goddamn divorced from their expectations, and from Bioware's attitude up to this point ("you request, we'll indulge"). The outcome shall be interesting, to say the least.

I'm pissed I stocked up on so many BioWare points considering the ending leaves me with no drive at all to ever play more. I wish I'd have known.

ME3 also doesn't have an ending where you are escaping a collapsing building with your wife and daughter.

You're right, but my solution still works. Oh and the game I was thinking of is Witcher 1 at the very start of the game it tells you about the two different versions of the game the launch version and the enhanced edition. While there's no way of jumping between the two version during the middle of a game to the best of my knowledge it works great and maintains the integrity of the original version.

Wasn't a similar point like this vetted when the Star Wars movies came out on blu-ray a lot of people said that if Lucas would just put out 1080p versions of the unedited trilogy they would be okay with what Lucas calls cannon now?

Are they transferable?
Doesn't look like it, I can use them for any BioWare game however.

For some reason the pricing was broken in the UK store two weeks ago, so I stocked up thinking I was getting a bargain.

Who knows, I can't really imagine they can add anything meaningful at this point, but they might pull something out of the bag.

To be clear though, I'm not saying I don't want to play more because it's crap or anything, I thought it was awesome, but the ending seems to provide plenty of closure. Although thinking about it, perhaps the DLC will focus on building a community on that final planet, that could be interesting.

I trust everyone who is infuriated by Bioware's attitude, EA's marketing, and a dearth of meaningful consequences in ME3's endgame is planning to buy The Witcher 2 if they haven't already? Especially if they didn't have the gaming PC needed for it at release, but do own a 360?

CDProjekt are more or less the antidote to the current state of the industry. Please give them money.

Oh foolish little Gabe creature, you've changed nothing. Your website has the attention of those infinitely your greater. Bioware fans which you call entitled are your salvation through logical ending revision.

Omega dlc i do want to visit that place again.

I was holding off because of the obvious console port downgrade, but what's so great about The Witcher 2?

Did we ever meet Wrex's asari friend? It was pretty obvious that it would be Aria.

The Witcher 2 has one of the best RP storylines in a videogame (among other things which make it high quality) and the people behind it are very kind to their fanbase. For example all changes and content being added to the console port is free for PC users.

Bte, whoever was the animation lead needs to be fired. That last sprinting section before Marauder Shields is terrible looking. Whenever Harbinger shoots, Shepard gets into this canned animation and slides all over the place.
And the game is bad in general, aside from cover changes. I expected more.

This pleases me.

This might've been asked before but in the ending sequence after the credits, the child asks for another story about "The Shepard" which sounds like another sequel with Shepard in it. However Casey Hudson said this is the end of the story arc for this hero.

Any theories?

Were they?

Then again, nobody died in my ME2 playthrough. Because I'm space jesus.

I think Virmire survivor shows up in second one and Thane shows up in the third. Its just them saying guilty sounding things like "you would never lead us astray" that's not an exact quote, but you get the idea. Its just their voices no model.

Stuff like Omega DLC

Casey Hudson can say whatever he wants, if EA sees a way to make some profit off Shepard, there will be another game with Shepard. And judging by the sales charts, there's a lot of money to be made.

I just beat this and I didn't choose the ending I wanted because the game didn't say which fucking path led to which ending. It was obvious the middle was synthesis, but I wanted to destroy the reapers so I figured it HAD to be the left side with the BLUE controls (blue meaning paragon, right?), but NO, that was control the reapers ending. Augh.

I guess it doesn't really matter, though, does it?

The entire basis for being emotional attached to the child is that it is a human child and it dies. That's it. That's the only reasoning Walters and co have. There's literally nothing else to it, except sad music.

That's actually the fundamental problem with almost all video game writing that attempts to emotionally connect players to events and characters: telling a player how to feel doesn't work. Demanding they feel a certain way about events, or connect to a specific character, just because you want them to, always fails. Without question. In an interactive, player driven experience the only way to develop a legitimate emotional connection between the player and events/characters is to have that connection develop naturally on the player end.

Hence why we're connected to our squad, and Shepard, and why players have vastly differing opinions on which characters they like more than others.

Except Garrus, because everyone loves Garrus.

I doubt any one had even the slightest connection to Vent kid.. Show his parents die trying to protect him...Show something similar to what Homefront did with the parents in the beginning

"Mommy...Whats happening mommy"
"It's gonna be okay sweetie everything is gonna be ok"
*Gets shot*

I'm suddenly reminded of Final Fantasy 9, which is not a good thing considering it was #1 on my imaginary list of fucked up video game endings. ME3 might have taken that place, although it's more disappointing than fucked up (relatively speaking; it's still fucked up).

Whatever, I've gone through all the stages and am now at my newly invented Angry Unforgiving Acceptance stage having fun with multiplayer. Nothing Bioware does can ever fix the ending, and I'll just have to overwrite it in my mind with a Mass Effect: Citadel TV show starring Robert Davi as Commander Bailey and Miranda making a guest appearance hunting down remaining Cerberus cells. And possibly having hot sex with Asari chicks. For undercover purposes.

This is the most disgusting part of the gaming journalism world. Have any major sites criticized the ending in their reviews? Hell, IGN even decorated their review especially for Mass Effect. Imagine if Roger Ebert did that for a film review.

I bet a lot of those reviewers didn't even finish the game. Some of them have even argued that a game doesn't have to be finished to be reviewed.

What an embarrassment.

Don't know where you got this but.., BRAVO

ME3 deserves its good reviews.

So i've been reading this thread at day at work, and i'm thinking the Indoctrination makes sense. Or i want to believe it to make the ending a little less shitty.
We'll find out tomorrow when phase 3 kicks in!

That PA comic is pretty funny, but the subtext that the problem people have with the ending is that it's not "happy" and that a happy ending would feel out of place is a cop out and misses the point. The op eds on the site regarding the ending are a bit smug, too. Maybe if we all were as versed in Hard Sci-Fi we'd open our eyes and understand things a bit better.

Yes, let us bow to Gabe and Tycho, the most enlightened of us all. Clearly we all need to suck it down and acknowledge the ending for the unchallenged brilliance that it is. May their smug remarks and unapologetic dicketry show us all the way.

Nah, it really is bad. A series built on choices that doesn't really give you a choice in the end, and in such a short amount of time it makes a staggering amount of plot holes.

Why is Joker running away in the Normandy? Why/How is the partner that was JUST at my side aboard the ship as well?

In Arrival, we destroy a Mass Relay and it kills a colony of 400,000 Batarians(or something). Well, now you just destroyed ALL of them, and Shepherd doesn't even question anything. He likely just fucked over everyone, with whatever survived being stranded just to die.

I don't really want a happy ending, and that isn't the issue most people have.

The lack of choice does defy the conventions put in place by the series up until that point, I agree, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Maybe BioWare wanted us to feel the crushing hopelessness of the end of an inevitable cycle? Like death. I think that's a powerful message.

The Normandy escape is either a plot hole, or something to be explained by the indoctrination theory or whatever we're talking about today. It does need explaining, yes, as do other things.

All we really see from Shepard after making a decision is conviction, because it's not Shepard's place to question the decisions at hand, it's yours. So if you're conflicted about a decision, then so is Shepard.

Leaving lots of organics to die is better than all of them dying. That's basically the whole point of the series. There will be colonies and civilisations scattered around the galaxy, and some will be self-sufficient and survive. But the end of the cycle is actually designed for them all to die and let inferior organics take their place. The organic species that will survive are those which are not dependant on the mass relays.

I'm just basing this on observations, and a lot of comments I've read are of people wanting everyone to live happily ever after eating bubblegum pie. Yum.
