ok so is it worth it to upgrade Wrex's armor if
he's going to get killed any way? or can you prevent it if I have higher levels of Charm/Intimidate?

What's this about then? I have just landed on
Virmire
and have had what I believe to be the moment the above spoiler is about. I managed to
pursuade Wrex and unlocked the Charismatic achievement. Are you saying if I didn't do that, you actually kill Wrex? If so, then that is pretty damn cool!

So who do you really *have* to have available in your party? I mean Wrex and Garrus are both optional aren't they? We know what happens with
Ashley and Kaiden
. Can you skip on picking up Liara?

I doubt you can skip Liara, she's the one that tells you the conduit is on Ilos. I could be wrong though...

She's part of a primary codex (main story), so you can't skip it.

Which reminds me: I was playing my third playthrough yesterday, and I was talking to
Anoleis on Noveria
, and I was able to get a
pass to Peak 15
from him because I gave him
Opod's (the Hanar shopkeeper in Noveria) illegally smuggled item, so Anoleis gave me a pass to leave because of it.
Does this mean that since it was okay for me to skip
talking to Lorik Quin
, I won't be able to get my Insane playthrough achievement?

You can skip either Wrex OR Garrus, not both. And, of course
Wrex can die on Virmire, as can either Ashley or Kaiden.

In fact, you can have only one party member available at one point if you play it right:
Leave Liara to last. Leave Garrus behind, kill Wrex. Ashely goes to the tower, Kaiden arms the bomb. Until you save one, you have only Tali.

The Insanity play through achievement is not a completion percentage one; you just need to reach the end of the game.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot I had just posted.

I have to say, I'm really impressed by the scope and thoroughness in the design of this universe. Truly BioWare did an exceptional job with creating a great and detailed setting for this game.

One thing though I'm not impressed with are the companion NPC characters. I find only a few of them interesting and the ones I do are not even human (love Wrex, Garrus and Tali), because for some reason I was getting annoyed with both Ashley and Kaiden not long after I met them. Heh, I really feel bad for female shepard and the fact that her only male love interest can be Kaiden :lol

What Bioware definitely needs to work on in the sequel is the interactions between you and those in your group because from what I've seen so far, that is what is really lacking for character development growth.

I agree.

There's so much that this game could be. It's almost there, which makes its lacking somehow worse. It's like they reached the uncanny valley not for humanoid characters, but for scope. I keep wanting to replay this game, but then I remember that there isn't as much there as the game implies. I want to get in there and interact with the world and characters, but it's always all the same.

Hopefully it was already said, but whoever directed the audio for this needs accolades of the highest order. It nails the 70s/80s Sci Fi vibe incredibly well, and there were moments where I was happy to stop playing Space Bastard and listen to the background instead.

I replayed it and did everythoing the opposite than I did the 1st time. Planets visited in different order, differnet team members, renegade vs paragon... etc... Very differnet game. True the core stuff is still there and that's what your're referring to but I was amazed how much different my second expereince was from my first.

Still, what was BioWare thinking when they made Kaiden the only straight romance available for female Sheperd? The guy's a complete deadpan as far as personality and conversing with him is just plain drab. No wonder most would choose Liara over that. :lol

So I just beat the game and want to do a Hardcore run with the same character. If I set my difficulty to Hardcore at the first opportunity will I get my achievement still?

Yes, you can change it before finishing Eden Prime.

Does the game make a seperate end game save for every playthrough? I already beat it as an adept but want to go through as a soldier, then pick one of those complete games to hit my level 60.

Yes. Also makes a new save if you finish a second game with the same character (or re-load and finish the game differently).

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
God, I am hating this game. I love the story and gameplay elements but the game has far too many technical flaws to be a playable experience. I am in the first city and its a pain in the ass just to move around due to the crappy framerate. Does it ever get better? I think I will have to wait for it to make it to the PC.

Eh, I only ever had framerate problems at certain points on one planet (Noveria) and randomly once on an uncharted world until I reloaded.

I never notice these sorts of things.

The texture popping is a far larger concern, perhaps.

Concerning the Specialist and Mastery Achievements, do you have to have Shepard use them? Or can you get them through any of your Tech/Biotic teammates?

[EDIT] - Nevermind. Seems like they only count Shepard's actions for these Achievements.

Meh... Gotta start two new careers now. :/

I got the Sentinel Ally achievement earlier. I'm hoping I get the Turian Ally achievement soon as I've stuck with Kaiden and Garrus since I've started. I know a lot of people have had trouble getting the ally achievements, I hope the game doesn't bum me out of my 20pts.

And god damn, I must have 74% Renegade rating but for the life of me I can't get that 1%. I even told
Garrus to kill Dr Saleon and also the soldier (thresher maw acid IN MA VAINS) holding the scientist hostage to shoot him, I even offered to do it myself, and I didn't get one renegade point for either mission.

Saying that, I haven't done Virimire yet so still lots of opportunities to grab those renegade points... but still!

Are you at the Citadel or Eden Prime? Unfortunately, the game doesn't get any better framerate-wise. Towards the end there are many framerate hiccups as the action & set pieces get bigger and bigger.

I do have to disagree with you 100% tho. The framerate is definitely disappointing but I really don't think it makes the game unplayable at all. I guess it depends on your sensitivity to framerate drops. I'm not a framerate whore (although I do appreciate a steady framedrop and do notice a difference between 60fps/30fps).

basically just talk with Liara every chance you get and be nice. or do the consort.

:lol. I told the consort to basically fuck off this second play through. I didn't care about her problems.

Is there a good walkthrough somewhere to read?

Once you figure out you both drive and steer with one stick it's easy.

It's still not much fun though.

I think the right stick or which way the camera is facing has something to do with the mechanics.

How do you manage to do that?

Well, you know, women melt around me. I'm the complete package - buns of steel, square jaw, charm, wit, intelligence. :lol

Actually for me it was a fluke. About 2/3rds way into the main quest, I went downstairs in the Normandy and spoke with her. She started talking about this and that then we started to flirt. That conversation wheel exhausted itself out. I went back to her a second time. Then the shit got real. She started calling me skipper,
said I have a nice ass (seriously)
. I took her back to my quarters... and well... babies were made :D

The problem with the Mako is that it feels like a Warthog but without the 'tumbling' physics.

What they should have done is designed a vehicle that can drive on either side, like those remote control flipper cars, that can flip themselves over and still drive. As it is the Mako constantly feels like there are forces acting against you that prevents it from being fun to drive.

Something like this; (Thanks Argos, keepers of the laminated book of dreams

So I'm going to rent Mass Effect today, and I was wondering which of the classes do you guys recommend that I should play as for my first playthrough?

So far I think I had the most fun as a Soldier. You control all the weapons and you can direct the 2 AI sqaudmates to use the tech and biotic stuff. Just blasting off the pistol when all your abilities are in cool down is not the greatest.

Is this possible with a female character as well? I chose a female. Hey, if I have to stare at the back of a character, it might as well be a woman's hot ass I get to look at through the entire game.

I would recommend Soldier. There are lots of cools biotic/tech abilities unlocked as you progress through the game as pick up your various squad members. However, as a Soldier you can updgrade all weapons (Assault Rifle, Sniper, Shotgun) AND you can still 'have' the tech/biotic abilities via the control you have over your squad mates (with the power wheel).

I basically ran with Soldier Sheppard/Tali/Liaria for most of the game. My soldier abilities were super maxed out. Combined with the tech/biotics of Tali/Liara, I felt pretty unstoppable. In fact, I felt the game was a bit too easy.

Depends on what you want. Soldier is a bit more action oriented than adept or engineer (although you can use the skills of your squad mates so you can balance things out if you want to). I think soldier might make the game a bit easier too, since you'll be harder to kill (more hitpoints, heavy armor, immunity on higher levels).

I don't know though I played a female my 2nd time through. I wanted the Paramour achievement so I played the romance angle with the sentinel. So gay. Anything for an achievement right? :lol

No. Kaiden for women, Ashley for men, Liara (and consort) for both.
