Massive Fire in High Rise Apartment in London

Pretty crazy that the block had a gas supply.

Well, one thing commonly cited is that it may have been part of the heating system, so that's not always the easiest thing to overhaul. Otherwise, it was a tower block made in the 1970s - not the most uncommon thing really, and shifting everyone onto electric likely would have been met resistance (and cost more money, which given the other trends in this...). It'd be more recent apartment buildings and the like that would actually have electric - like the Unite halls I stayed in last year.

Miliband levels of bad

Miliband was leagues above May. Sure, not the best orator in the world but he copped more flak than he deserved, just as Corbyn did pre-election. May, on the the other hand, comes across as the most robotic and insincere public speaker in living memory.

How would they not? In the uK gas cookers and water heaters are the norm
For houses sure, but I don't think I've ever been in a tower block (and much smaller blocks) which have gas.

Yes, makes sense. The cost of rewiring, and replacement cookers/boilers, along with resistance of residents. My 18-floor building, built in 2014 only has electric.

Speaking as an anti-monarchist, the Queen has always seemed like a thoroughly decent person.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard or seen anything that's ever demonstrated the Queen isn't a nice person. She seems friendly and authentic enough.

Queenie her and her mum have always done this kind of stuff and done it well.

In fairness, Liz does have the rather unfair advantage of being the Queen. A visit from her is the British equivalent of meeting Mickey Mouse at Disney Land, for those not disillusioned with the very concept of monarchy.

But at least May, if she were effective, could have at least warranted a comforted smile - 'I appreciate the gesture' and such - rather than what honestly looks like disgust.

Yeah, you just can't have a PM with what I understand is called 'resting bitch face'.

Is that the right phrase? It's sounds like it's probably offensive.

So long as they weren't diehard anti labour, I bet you'd have a similar smile from a visit by Corbyn though. Nobody cares when May shows up because it's now painfully obvious you're a photoshoot at best and nothing more.

I was on the fence about the queen, more of a she is good for tourism. Now I think she seems nice.

Prince Philip is funny because he puts his foot in it
