Even the SNP wasn't expecting this big a landslide, even privately.

"Nationalism" is too simplistic by far. The SNP have solidly governed in the Scottish Parliament over the past few years. The Labour party in Scotland handled the "No"/"Better Together" campaign horribly. The austerity policies from the current government are extremely unpopular in Scotland, and Scottish Labour's shown none backbone on that issue.

You can't just say "Rarrr nationalism".

Size of the swing doesn't matter. Sturgeon has played this entire campaign using nationalism as her main weapon. She says reasonable things, but the underlying tone is independence.
All these results mean is that another referendum is on the way and it'll be 'yes'.

Personally, I'd rather that than the constant complaining.

If you'd offered the SNP 45 seats yesterday they'd have bitten your hands off. Everyone I've spoken to has said they thought that would be the ceiling.

CONGRATULATIONS!

34% Swing in Motherwell. Biggest so far, but Coatbridge will beat it when SNP wins. That is flippin' awesome and as I've said a few times, I didn't think Labour would ever lose Motherwell, it's been so solidly red from the coal & steel heritage. Wow.

This is so bad. I feel sorry for you guys there. I'm studying Political and Social Studies in Germany and we tried to analyze the political situation in the UK this year, but I would never have expected this outcome.

Nah, an ambitious SNP target would have been 52-3 even yesterday. This is just the icing on a full and healthy cake.

Honestly. I mean I don't know the big wigs, but guys on the ground and a bit higher up were really worried about Glasgow yesterday if you add that to Dunbartonshire then it puts you in the just under 50.

Jo Swinson gone

You might as well stop looking, at this rate we're leaving the EU soon so you can be done with us.

OK, no more posts for holds. Only gains.

How is everyone going? I just cracked open my big can of Red Bull..
Tired and should be bed, but laughing at the SNP steamrolling everyone is too entertaining to turn away from.

(and takes my mind off the Conservatives doing better than expected because I'm now watching the BBC Scotland stream)

Conservatives GAIN Brecon & Radnorshire from Lib Dems
Labour GAIN Burnley from Lib Dems
SNP GAIN Rutherglen & Hamilton West from Labour
SNP GAIN Kirkcaldy from Labour

Gordon Brown am cry.

So Farage said if he loses, he resigns. Who would take his place?

Coburn being the defacto Scottish leader would likely be a candidate, but I think he'd be a disaster. Not sure who UKIP have who wouldn't be tbh, Reckless?

What makes you say that?

The Liberal Democrats are collapsing and Labour is shattered. The SNP have no reach outside Scotland which may or may not remain in the UK anyway. None of the political actors or groups that traditionally held pro-EU stances have the sort of political capital or physical resources to dedicate towards defending it.
