Had to laugh at the Mail and Torygraph's front pages today.

"It's Friday Jim, how can we make Miliband look terrible today?"

"I've got it! Let's try and smear him for having SEX!"

Not really sure why they're bothering. Boris literally bathes himself in sexual scandals and people voted him to be Mayor of London anyway. This kind of thing just makes politicians a bit more human.

I don't understand why they are continuing with this campaign to be honest against Ed.

They've spent 5 years turning him into the most mocked man in politics. There isn't an insult or a line of attack they haven't already flung a him. It's baked into his numbers now - they aren't going to persuade more people not to vote for him at this point!

It's as if they don't realise they won the argument on Ed a long time ago - people are still going to vote for him because they dislike the current government, and no amount of shit flinging at him is going to help that. Very few people have a good opinion of Ed.

And ironically, it's look like even less are starting to have a good opinion of Cameron.

And it's hardly a scandal anyway is it.

"Ed's wife was furious".... about the fact Ed was dating someone else before they got together.

If anything, it only gives more ammunition to Milliband. Nobody expects anything and therefore almost anything he does can impress people. Because he isn't an idiot, particularly gaffe-prone or lacking in emotional intelligence like Brown. He just looks silly in photos.

Nope there seems to be nothing scandalous about Ed's story. I meant even politicians who actually are involved in scandals are unaffected anyway really. Very odd story to run, although not surprised by the Mail at all - but disappointing for the Telegraph to stoop as low.

The Telegraph are worse than the Sun or Mail or Mirror.

You should disregard everything they say. They cannot be trusted.

Ed Miliband, what an absolute NERD!! but look at all these HOT women in his past that make his WIFE jealous.

I know it is a very shallow point but politics is pretty shallow. This must play well to those who think Ed is a bit boring and aloof.

Any links to those front pages?

I haven't seen them, but I suspect it's not so much about the scandal (of which there seems to be none), but more about reinforcing the idea of him being a backstabber/someone not to be trusted.

It's probably the second part of the Ed is a sneak fuck strategy, next week/week after will bring the final act where something else is revealed to feed into the idea that he's not be trusted.

And it's of no surprise that the Telegraph is right up at the front, leading the charge. How far they've fallen in just a matter of weeks...although maybe they were always a red top pretending to be a more serious outlet and the veil has simply slipped and the charade is finally over...

The only slightly controversial point is the suggestion that he was dating the BBC's at-the-time Economics Editor Stephanie Flanders whilst Ed was at the Treasury. This could lead to a conflict of interest in reporting but even that (if it's true) would be Stephanie's conflict of interest, not Ed's.

This is the SHOCKING quote

she said: “I first met Ed when I went to a friend’s house for dinner. I was interested in him, I thought he was good looking and clever and seemed to be unattached. But we just went down a conversational cul-de-sac.

“Apparently we had nothing in common. He wanted to talk about economics – one of my least favourite subjects.”

Speaking to The Daily Mirror, she continued: “None of our conversations went anywhere. Then I found out he was secretly going out with the woman who had invited us for dinner. I was furious.

“I bumped into him a couple of times after that, but we didn’t start seeing each other for at least a year.”

To be fair anyone who had and enjoyed the pain and pleasure of the Spectrum gets a gold star from me.

So I actually read the Telegraph's story about 'secret lothario Ed Miliband' and had to stop halfway through I was laughing so hard. I'm not sure what's funnier; the notion of Ed Miliband being a lothario, Flanders rating Balls vs. Miliband as lovers, or the Telegraph's idea this will hurt Miliband.

This news stuff is why I hate politics, as I can't take any of the 'news' seriously. I sort of read the BBC, but then even they're supposedly Labour centric. There's far too much bullshitting and not enough actual "This is how I will help you and the Country". I think that's why I always feel like I'm voting for the 'least worst' rather than the actual best group to lead the country.

There is no way that the BBC are Labour centric.

If anything they are pro-establishment and faintly, faintly Conservative.

UKIP have also been big beneficiaries of them.

I don't think they're pro-Conservative, I think they're pro-whichever-side-they-expect-to-win. Can't afford to piss off incoming governments when you're a public service.

Thanks.

Pretty much what I expected. This is clearly meant to cast further doubt on how trustworthy he is and how he can be devious in his actions.

I'd hope people aren't stupid enough to fall for it...

I'm reminded of a discussion on one of the old Mock the Week episodes about how Gordon Brown would probably get more popular from a sex scandal simply because it would make him look human.

To be honest with you, these stories do make Ed sound more human than he's previously been portrayed, so it could end up being a positive.

But it is difficult to vote for them knowing Balls will be on the finances....

I think the odds on Miliband using coalition negotiations as an excuse to force Balls out are reasonably good.

Yeah, he doesn't have to stick with him if he wins, he can look forward to a lot of sniping if he did let him go though.

I love it, I've warmed to him a lot because of it. Especially him just brushing it off.

I like how the right are mad at Ed for being "ruthless" in getting what he wants and even "backstabbing" his own brother to get there as a negative, yet also trying to imply he's weak willed and a pushover.

The first part of that does not lead to the second part....

I hadn't noticed that fivethirtyeight are doing UK election predictions:

Really like that they actually predict seat numbers with the possible ranges given accuracy of polling data.

If Ed dropped Balls today I'd be 10x happier about voting for him, I remember when he got the job of Shadow Chancellor and he openly admitted knowing nothing about finance or economics saying he'd 'Learn on the job', someone should have let Ed know that people over the age of 25 aren't eligible for apprenticeships.

Thank you

I voted Lib-Dem last time, and the reason I'm not voting for them this time is due to them forming a coalition with the Tories, it just seemed to be against everything they had in their manifesto. So I'll probably not vote them again, if they hadn't formed a coalition with the Tory party? I might have voted them this time.

Just when you think the press has debased itself as far as it can possibly go they somehow manage to go even further.

It must be strange for Ed Miliband reading the papers. Yesterday he was a goofy looking weirdo, today he's a mad rampant shagger.
