Apparently that survation poll is really bad in its crossbreaks. They have the tories ahead in london when other pollsters have them losing it by upto 15 points. Seems a duff poll.

This woman is standing in West Tyrone, along with the Cannabis Party and a Tory from Camden who had only been to Tyrone for the first time last week. I would have to expect the Cannabis' to poll highest out of those three.

why did the tories even bother campaigning for the union to continue if they're just going to tear it apart six months later

like it's fair game to question the snp's agenda and what influence they will have over labour, but trying to claim mp's representing people from the uk having an influence on the politics of the uk is illegitimate is actually pretty offensive.

That's May positioning herself for next tory leader.

Ministers & MPs have urged Nicky Morgan to run as a modernising candidate who can appeal to non Tories. See SundayTimes

His timeline is full of stuff like that. Meltdown incoming?
(also lol @ someone who opposed equal marriage being "a moderniser")

They don't print news and they rarely do journalism. It's right wing, baseless bile designed to keep their idiot readers stewing in a sea of hate. I'd love to see an end to their shite. More than half the newspapers in this country seem to be nothing more than attempts to decry anything seen as remotely left wing at the moment.

Maybe at the top of the Mail's front page it should say 'Opinion Piece'?
Yeah, none of that counts as grounds to ban it. The fact you don't like the Daily Mail isn't good enough.

Sounds like Cameron is gonna have a lot of free time to watch West Ham games.

Even better is this tweet from him

"Fmr Tory minister: "There won’t be a coronation. There will be nearly as many entries as the grand national, with a similar casualty rate”

Ouch. Looks like people are plotting and lining up already. He has also stated before than Cameron has been looking for an out for a while. One things for sure, if the Tories fail to form a coalition then it's full on meltdown time.

Wouldn't be surprised. Just think about the narrative the Tories have been weaving for the country and themselves: Labour left the economy in the midst of a horrific recession, with no money left to spend, in a worse situation than Greece. Cameron then scrapes into office and sets about fixing the economy, bringing us out of the recession and improving things, all while passing some much needed reforms. He should be winning just on the basis of saving the economy!

And yet, at the very next election, they lose to the likes of Ed Miliband, a man who lost a fight against a bacon sandwich, and the SNP. There'll be hell to pay in the Tory leadership if that comes to pass.

No abortions, because that's murder, or gay marriage, because of course, but bring back capital punishment? That's an interesting interpretation of the Bible she has there.

Without capital punishment we wouldn't have Easter.

No other party does cut throat leadership contests like the Tories. One of the reasons the Miliband backstabber jibe didn't get much traction as all the political hack were thinking "er, you have seen what goes on when a tory cabinet minister gets a whiff of the top job"

The tories are making a Labour/SNP coalition sound really exciting, I'm getting the horn just thinking about it.

Oh please let the last few weeks see the Tories have a leadership crisis. Not saying Dave needs to go, just be surrounded by rumours. That'd be some much needed entertainment.

I can't believe the media is at it again after they tried pulling all this bullshit scare mongering during the referendum.

It's fucking pathetic.

Aye.

Bill Cash or Peter Bone will get some airtime for a start.

To be fair Labour went through that around a year ago..

Haha yes, and the result being a reluctant "actually this wouldn't look good would it oh we really should have thought of that first".

Otherwise, it's another week and a half of HAVE YOU HEARD OF SCOTLAND, THEY EAT ENGLISH BABIES

Why do we worry so much about what the Mail says?

The people who buy the Mail are already most likely to vote Tory anyway.

I don't know. I have a mate who keeps posting their headlines on Facebook with bewildered commentary.

I just think "How are you surprised? Didn't they just say exactly what you expected them to say?"

As a human, I have always wanted to be illegal. c:

Look guys, someone like Tom Jones is always going to have affairs; get over it!!

I saw an interesting graph the other day which had showed how in the last 3 or 4 years "the economy" has gone from the most important thing for voters down to about the fourth. It's almost a linear downward trend as employment and GDP goes up - the more secure people are, the less they care about the economy.

Biblically correct.

Jesus, we still have those types people?

Looking at it, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the opposing the LBGT agenda but showing compassion to those who struggle with their 'gender confusion' (what the fuck at this...) and then, just a couple of sentences later, suggesting the recriminalisation of homosexuality.

The fuck is wrong with some people.

there's like three minutes of miliband arguing with boris on the sofa at the end of the marr show today that's a thing actually enjoyable from this election

Welcome to Northern Ireland! Be thankful you can choose to live elsewhere.

The First Minister also hates homosexuals as well, describing them as 'abominations'.

Not hyperbole, btw

So I guess that makes me a half-abomination, really. Tsk. No wonder I'm interested in actual UK politics, 'cause over here's full of shite.

I have no idea why they have that music bit on marr, it's grating. That Boris vs Ed bit could have been the highlight of the election campaign thus far but they cut it off for some shitty skiffle combo.

Looking at Germany and their coalition from the outside*, it makes me weep that our politicians seem so self serving and have very little interest in actually working together. Feels like we're pretty close to the US style deadlock of voting against good stuff because the other guy wanted to do it first.

*For all I know Germany is the exact same when it comes to asshole politicians.

the election in a nutshell.

waste of fucking time, unless you're stalking Sturgeon.

The best thing to come out of a Labour/SNP Alliance would be the potential drive for proportional representation it would cause. The narrative is already in play in regards to the fact that a party that will only receive 3-5% of the votes may be sitting in the co-pilot seat. That and UKIP, Lib Dems, et al crying foul that they got significantly more votes than the SNP yet have got nothing to show for it.

That and the anti-Scottish sentiment that the right-wing media would invariably whip up would only serve to remind a good part of the 55.3% that they may have made a mistake.

You get that feeling already up here. Would be interesting to see the results for an independent vote right now. Might not go in favour still, but I'd wittle it down to a win of a few % tops, instead of 10%.

The second most interesting bit on Marr was the review of the papers where that hack Tom Newton Marr from the Sun was saying that it was interesting that Miliband was just playing to the base with some leftist nonsense, and the Mumsnet owner saying actually it's something which is a major point of interest with her members. That would seem to be backed up by research/polling done in January.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...sed-to-rent-controls-for-housing-9955679.html

Rent controls for the private sector are a point of contention with economists, they shouldn't really work in theory (as the lack of supply is the main factor in rent pricing so artificially holding back prices should reduce landlord participation in the market), but in practice (Ireland, Switzerland, Holland and Germany have rental controls of varying types). Ireland is the most comparable to what Labour are proposing, and also Ireland has a similar culture of urban home ownership unlike some of the European countries where home ownership isn't as common.

I passed by that yesterday, it was jumping. From speaking to a few people who stopped as she spoke, it was a pretty weird event. No police presence or barriers, a few SNP members with high vi s vests, and Sturgeon made a point to do a crowd walk through the crowd talking to people and answering questions. It's a sort of retail politics you never see with the main party leaders these days.

It makes her seem more like an actual human being. It's hard for many to relate to the rich London boys and their teleprompter like speeches.

Are you arguing for no regulation based on the general election/political smear articles or no regulation at all? The DM have printed stories such as the one on the MMR vaccine, quoting unpublished "findings" from Andrew Wakefield long after he lost his license, would you not prevent articles such as this from being published?

Edit: forgot it was blocked on here

Holy shit, I had no idea it was that bad in NI.

“It wasn’t Iris Robinson who determined that homosexuality was an abomination, it was the Almighty.

“This is the Scriptures and it is a strange world indeed where somebody on the one hand talks about equality, but won’t allow Christians to have the equality, the right to speak, the right to express their views.”

Jesus Christ...this is the group that the Tories might consider a coalition with?

Of course not. If it turns out that a) the contents are false and b) they knew that it was false when they printed it, then by all means punish them post hoc. But any sort of "preventative" regulation would be impractical in any way.

B..But the SNP!

I really do have to wonder why virtually no-one is questioning them about a potential coalition with this hate group.

At least the SNP are forward thinking and don't harbour outright hate for certain groups and call them abominations. Disgusting that such a group exists in UK politics.

Wondering the same thing too, seems like an open goal, would probably drown out any concerns about the SNP which the Tories are stirring up. Maybe saving it for closer to polling day?

Would you say the risk of post hoc punishments is adequate at the moment to act as a preventative measure? Why do we not see stories such as the MMR one on TV news broadcasts if preventative regulation is impractical?

Boris is so terrible on the spot. His brain just doesn't have time to boot up. Its not even funny at this point, he is wholly incapable of saying something that wasn't already prepared for him.

..and did he call Milliband a..."creature' on live TV?
