May 7th | UK General Election 2015 OT - Please go vote!

Ooh, new Lord Ashcroft poll of six marginals, including my constituency Bristol West!

Con 18%
Lab 38%
Lib Dem 20%
UKIP 2%
Green 25%

I've been referring to this place as a 'safe' Lib Dem seat for a while now, since our current MP got 48% of the vote. That Lib Dem collapse is fierce, much worse than I thought.

Anyway, encouraging that Greens are looking like coming second. They're getting my vote.

Edit:

Scottish parliament already uses a proportional system. The number of seats we have in Westminster isn't that big a deal since we have a dissolved parliament. It'd be nice to fix your system for you though

Sounds messy

But he's useless.

A useless leader wouldn't have got Liberal ministers into power for the first time since WW2. (IIRC?)

He's not played his hand well, I'll grant you that, but he's been a good politician.

@The chap who asked why it's so hard for Red or Blue to get a majority at this election: a weak Conservative government and party leadership, an even weaker Labour opposition, the lack of a clear third party as the Lib Dems have had to prop up said weak Conservative government for five years and the rise of two major nationalist parties.

The "proportional" part of our system was broken in 2011. The SNP should have got way more seats than what they actually did.

I've been basing all my estimates on the lib dems ground game keeping them at 25 or so. If they are losing seats like Bristol West I wonder if we are looking at a sub 20 result for them. It might be they end up as a regional party with MPs only in the southwest (and possibly Charles Kennedy in Scotland).

I do wonder how the system could be fixed so that it's not always a two horse race in government. I'm tired of having either the Tories or Labour, they are both as bad as each other but we can never seem to get anyone else!

We have a Krankies joke, she was an evil child stuff, sexual innuendo and all that "determined woman" stuff, what an insult.

The shit has been flying for a while, but this one really is pathetic.

There's obviously only one solution. There I was thinking Sturgeon was a competent politician and first minister. Now I have seen the light and the answer to stopping this monster taking control of our beloved country, this sceptered isle, and turning it into a communist wasteland is clear to me. I know I must vote UKIP! Or Conservative! Or whoever that nice Mr Murdoch tells me to vote for!

Fuck this I'm going to the pub.

So after the tory press had such massive success with throwing pelters at Milliband they are really going to town on Sturgeon.

It's been pathetic for a while but this last couple of weeks is obviously going to get pretty desperate. Can't imagine why the political process is so devalued in this country.

I find it hilarious that we have a superb tradition of journalism in television and radio despite it following careful guidelines set down by OFCOM, but if you even suggest anything like that for print journalism, you get all sorts of wailing and gnashing of teeth about "press freedom", after they get found doing all sorts of unethical or downright illegal shit.

This. It's like the UK's lack of a Fox News equivalent is more than compensated for by its gutter press, really need some major reform here.

I think it's fine for papers to have views, but they've just got to be accurate and besides, with so much plurality, it's the ability to challenge that matters.

Also I'm bored of hearing about Scotland in some vague scaremongering can this election be interesting again

So when will the focus go back to policy, rather than how dangerous we Scots are. Can imagine the rest of the UK are pretty tired of hearing about it at this point. Just feels like indyref again up here, except this time the general public are seeing through the MSM nonsense.

Are they though? I suspect that there is a big number of voters who have yet to make their mind up due to messages like this. A lot of people will no doubt be tired of it, but if the aim is to put doubt in the minds of the voters, then the message IS doing it's job..

I think they will aye. I know of a number of no voters who will be voting SNP this time. Mainly because it isn't a do or die vote like indyref.

I think the main aim of most of the vitriol is to sway floating voters south of the border away from voting labour, thus making SNP power at Westminster less likely.

The Scottish Sun seems to actually back SNP, unlike the English edition.

She's only been running the country for half a year and was part of the top brass of the Government for nearly a decade...but yes, i'm sure all your bullshit will convince people she's evil now Labour and Tories.

Cheers - this was actually a question I forgot to ask earlier in reflection of that "article" on Sturgeon. I honestly don't know why people buy the red tops these days..

The prospect of power does wonders to install fear in the establishment doesnt it?

I've heard Scotland is a bit like Mordor.

YouGov found it was one thing the voters wanted the politicians to stop whittering on about. We've had a week of it, and the polls haven't moved.

good evidence for how completely useless the green party is (at making their core issue part of the national agenda. mostly because they can't focus like ukip on one main idea and instead obsess about a million different pet left wing issues so that nothing gets any play and the environment/climate change gets forgotten)

They're trying to make the transition from a one issue party to a fully fledged one, to be fair.

Kennedy is trailing by 15 points in Ross, Skye and Lochaber according to the latest Ashcroft polls (he was trailing before them, but only by 5). He may well lose his seat - certainly he's going to be ran close. However, Alistair Carmichael is certain to return from Orkney & Shetland, one of the safest seats in the UK, so there will still be at least one Scottish Lib Dem MP after the election.

There's a very good chance the Tories end up with more seats in Scotland than the Lib Dems.

Possible. Everyone is assuming Alistair Carmichael will hold Orkney and Shetland with every other Lib Dem out including Kennedy. The Tories have a shot of holding on to David Mundell's seat and winning Michael Moore's both on the border depending on how the vote splits. The SNP are coming from a looong way back in both seats and the Conservatives will be hoping the sinking ship Lib Dems floatsem voters switch to them. These constituencies were the biggest % of No votes at the referendum.

Michael Moore is my current MP and I sincerely hope that John Lamont does not become my next MP. From what I've heard it's essentially the Tories, Lib Dems, and SNP all on 30% each.

I see at least 3 Tory MPs in Scotland. They will benefit from split votes and a backlash against the SNP.

It was an opinion bases on his actions. You'd really feel comfortable with the government banning that?

They don't print news and they rarely do journalism. It's right wing, baseless bile designed to keep their idiot readers stewing in a sea of hate. I'd love to see an end to their shite. More than half the newspapers in this country seem to be nothing more than attempts to decry anything seen as remotely left wing at the moment.

Maybe at the top of the Mail's front page it should say 'Opinion Piece'?

It did seem like the last opinium one was an outliner as it was a little too high for cons. This one seems far more sensible.
