Media Create Sales: 10/20 - 10/26

/facepalm

Well, first day doesn't sound so bad, no numbers for hardware bundles though.

Oh, and let me burst a few bubbles, PS3 biggest title this holidays is Winning Eleven 2009, not White Knight Chronicles. WE2009 is actually a pretty important milestone for PS3, getting the yearly WE without the PS2 version alongside it. It better do good if PS3 wants to keep it this way.

MHP2G sold more than FFX or FFXII and its a PSP vs PS2 scenario.

I think that's still really unlikely. However, I do think there is a chance MH3 does more for Wii hardware longterm than FF13 does for PS3...

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

After TGS, i don`t see why MH Tri couldn`t sell at least on par with FF13 ( which won`t sell much more than 1 million, imo)

If the LBP figures are correct, it sold a little more than Afrika. Doesn't really look good for the new hardware bundles, if that's the case.

I still think FF13 will do more than a million because it is that big of a game. But I don't think many of those owners will keep their systems.

MH3..IMO it's hard to say just because we don't know if the hype will fully translate from the PSP to Wii. I think it will do better than the first 2 console versions, but I'm not ready to say it's going to do 2 million or anything yet.

EDIT: What's this new PS3 bundle everyone's talking about? The LBP bundle?
A new 80GB model with a Dualshock 3 and GT5 Prologue Spec III packed in, all at the same price as the old 40GB model without a game.
Because it's a better value for the same price, the saying goes that this is the reason why PS3 sales have been taking such a dive the last three weeks. People interested in a PS3 know it's coming very soon and hold off. This was announced at TGS. No leak, but an official thing.

Even though this might explain things, it doesn't really make the current performance okay, because there could have been a fire-sale of the old model to compensate such predictable consumer behaviour. The damage is largely self-inflicted.

Two Kanji blasts from the past have reappeared on the Top 30, and their new LTDs show that they continue to have legs.

Kanji Brain 2 + Dictionary last appeared on a Top 30 in April, and last had an LTD update at the middle of this year.

Zaidan Houjin Nippon Kanji Nouryoku Kentei Kyoukai Kounin: Kanken DS2 + Jouyou Kanji Jiten last appeared on a Top 30 in December, but also had an update in the mid-2008 lists.

Pokémon Platinum continues outpacing Emerald, and is now about at the point where Emerald was after nearly two years.
Platinum

Currently Platinum is the #3 release of 2008. It will soon best Mario Kart Wii and become #2, but it's then a pretty big jump to Monster Hunter Portable 2G at #1.

Note that this includes only 2008 releases. Wii Fit is in MK Wii / Platinum sales territory for 2008.

About Final Fantasy 13, i wonder if the Final Fantasy fans will buy it "no matter what". Looking at the difference in the PS2 userbase between Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 12 was about 11-12 million, but still both games had a relatively simular first week (about 90k - 100k more copies sold with Final Fantasy 12).

When Final Fantasy 10 was released, the PS2 userbase was at about 4.5 millions. If Final Fantasy 13 gets released in about 1 year from now, i dont think its too unthinkable that the PS3 installbase can be around 3.5 - 4 million. I dont think its impossible that Final Fantasy 13 will sell over a million copies the first week.

Of course, the PS2 was much popular, around the weeks around the release of Final Fantasy 10 the PS2 sold maybe something around 100k + - consoles each week, i dont think that will happend to the PS3.

The built-in font doesn't handle accented characters properly, but I usually don't remember that when typing titles in. :lol SOME DAY it'll be fixed, then people viewing ancient Media Create threads will see them properly.

I think that's a possibility- maybe like MGS4? Of course, is MGS4 more of a hardcore series than Final Fantasy where the userbase will loyally follow?

About what I expected for LBP. It might have some legs compared to most PS3 releases, but I'm skeptical it will really do much.

And interesting that Chocobo Wii actually outperformed the DS version at least initially. I just assumed the DS one would do a lot better.

This is downright horrendous for PS3. I mean, 3k a week!? At what point in the Gamecube's life, did this become the regular trend (5k a weak or less)?

On top of that: 30k for LBP?

W T F is wrong with Japan :'(

Nice numbers for GTAIV, will most likely beat GTAIII first week, doubtful on VC and SA but still holding quite well taking into account the platforms involved.

The rest, eh, I guess Chocobo will get better numbers with DSi launch and MHP2G off to stay on the top30 for a little longer.

Pretty much what I expected from LBP.

Is that 250k sales goal for the year just for Japan? If so, I doubt LBP will reach that.

Ye, i actually thought about MGS4's preformance as well :) MGS4's LTD is around 690k now if i'm not mistaken? I think that is pretty good compared to MGS2 and MGS 3 when you take the PS2 VS the PS3 userbase into consideration, so it seems that the MGS fans bought MGS4 even if it was on PS3. I dont know how it will be with the Final Fantasy fans though.

Shinobi's titbits

GTA4
* GTA4 77K for PS3, 27K for 360, 104K combined.
* GTASA took 29 months to make domestic release, but only 6 months this time.
* Sales is slightly worse than SA.
* NA version was released in April and had good sales via various import shops.
+ Considering these imported copies, this is good enough for first day.

LBP
* There are no remarkable bump for PS3.
* But LBP SW and its DS3 bundles were good. sold almost 30k total.
* R&C future took 2 weeks to sell 20k copies, so this is good start as a new IP.
* Need more advertising toward Christmas/New Year to gain some interests from "family" and "casuals".

I believe 7k bundles are rough numbers of those DS3 pack. (2,817+2,465+2,217 B/W/Silver)
He didn't tell PS3 numbers.

Is that only for the LBP PS3 bundle or for PS3 in general (wasnt there are Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PS3 bundle as well?). It is a pity that there are no numbers since "remarkable" can be very relative. Is it compared to how i.e the PS2 did it, or would like going from i.e 4k to 20k be considered "no remarkable"?

That's strange, I did bet that LBP could move more bundles than individual software.
EDIT. still missing the PS3 bundle.

I don't think that's a bomb. I think people had some unrealistic expectations.

It was a bomb moving hardware, its main objetive thought.

I think it is too early to say anything about LBP being a bomb when it comes to moving hardware. The LBP PS3 bundle has been officially out for 2 days and the only hardware number we have are for the first day sals of the LBP PS3 controller bundles. Those LBP PS3 controller bundles didnt sell that great the first day though. The only info we about the LBP PS3 bundle is "no remarkable bump". That said, i dont think it will move PS3 consoles in a very large numbers.

I wonder if it in particular will have more legs than the traditional PS3 software. It was marketed towards casual right'

Another thought, when looking at releases the rest of the year..after Animal Crossing on 11/20 I'm not seeing that much for Wii in December that could potentially do well. Tatsunoko v. Capcom and Taiko Drum Wii stand out, but not much else. Am I missing something?

The data says they shipped 49k. What are your thoughts on that?
Shipped copies is a combination of how many retailers ordered (i.e. how they thought it was going to sell) and ability to supply. I'm pretty sure Sony could have shipped more than 50k, so in this case, it's fairly safe to assume retailers don't have enough faith to order more. It's not like Sony says "we'll sell 250,000; let's ship 250,000; 10 to this store here, 10 to this one, 5 to this one".

Here is Original text and a bit more careful translations.

80GB版の本体や「LBP」の同梱版など、本体関連には大きな動きが見られなかったものの、
There are no huge/big movement around HW things, like new 80GB model and LBP bundles.

ソフト単品とデュアルショック同梱版は好調で、各バージョンの合計で約3万本を販売した。
But software itself and DS3 bundle are doing good, sold 30k combined whole versions.

Ya, it's a pity that there are no actual PS3 numbers in his post.
