It's going to do big business in NA. Similar to what happened with FFXV. Japan just doesn't carry these big scale AAA games anymore, the West does.

I expect digital sales of RE7 to be really high considering its the only place to get the grotesque version of the game.(uncensored)
This was the bulk of sales and the version of the game that will sell the most, standard version maybe sold 50k.

Only GameCube games, the original title and late ports had a lower opening than Resident Evil 7, even Operation Raccoon City had a higher first week.
While I do believe that 7 had a smaller budget and team than 6 "look at it" its a dumb excuse, you need to take into account all the R&D that had to go into VR and the development of the new engine, for everything to work as well as it did must have taken a long time and some very good and expensive tools, just because the game is less flashy than 6 doesn't mean it costs pennies to make.
Biggest first weeks on PS4.
01. Final Fantasy XV - 716.649
02. Knack - 322.083
03. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - 315.288
04. Persona 5 - 268.320
05. Dragon Quest Heroes - 255.292
06. Resident Evil 7: biohazard - 231.188
07. Dark Souls III - 218.764
08. Yakuza 6 - 201.211
09. Dragon Quest Heroes II - 188.690
10. Tales of Berseria - 160.040
Take this for what you will.
Also, Splatoon is gone from Famitsu after an incredible 87 week run.
Did this quickly, but these games had the longest runs on Famitsu (uninterrupted of course)
01. Pokémon Red / Blue / Green - 104 weeks
02. Animal Crossing: Wild World - 100 weeks
03. Wii Sports - 100 weeks
04. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition - 98 weeks (and counting)
05. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day - 97 weeks
06. Wii Fit - 96 weeks
07. Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day - 94 weeks
08. Splatoon - 87 weeks
09. Wii Play - 87 weeks
10. New Super Mario Bros. - 79 weeks
I did this pretty fast so it's likely that I miss some games, also this starts in 1995 so it's likely that a game before that (like say, Super Mario Bros./World had a longer run, we don't yet), also worth noting that most games here are from the hight of the DS/Wii years were a game could sell 5k and not be able to enter Top 30 and when some games were selling so much they had stock issues and dropped out in some weeks such is the case with Mario Kart (both DS and Wii) as well as New Super Mario Bros. and some other DS and Wii games.
Minecraft will also very likely had the longest run ever in the end, it only needs a few more weeks.

That's true when a porn game or something, not when its an stablished series.Oh, I thought z rated games weren't carried by the majority of shops. The equivalent of an AO rating in the States.

Not sure why they make games like this. They almost never sell well. If you want to make an anime game like this, then there needs to be romance/galge-style-game typically with a male protagonist. In the past, with series that didn't have male main characters, they would typically create one for the purpose of the game.20./00. [PSV] New Game! Disgaea, Toukiden, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Resident Evil. Who's next on the PS4 tombstone?
Japan never cared for first party shooters.
Nintendo's next mainline Zelda must be an advanced Link's Crossbow Training. Its sales might decline but it won't need the 2m Breath of the Wild needs in order to make profit.
Disgaea, Toukiden, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Resident Evil. Who's next on the PS4 tombstone?
Sales increased 5.2% year-on-year (a 15% increase on a constant currency basis) to 617.7 billion yen (5,325
million U.S. dollars). This increase was primarily due to an increase in PlayStation®4 (”PS4") software sales
including sales through the network and the contribution of PlayStation®VR which was launched in October 2016,
partially offset by the impact of foreign exchange rates as well as the impact of a price reduction for PS4 hardware.
Operating income increased 9.9 billion yen year-on-year to 50.0 billion yen (431 million U.S. dollars). This
significant increase was primarily due to PS4 hardware cost reductions and the above-mentioned increase in PS4
software sales, partially offset by the effects of the price reduction for PS4 hardware. During the current quarter,
there was a 1.4 billion yen positive impact from foreign exchange rate fluctuations.

RE 5/6 had shit critical reception. They nearly ruined the cast as well. Capcom changing direction and actually producing a good horror game is the real gift. The sales will be the cherry on the cake.
Comgnet did it again by the way (as expected). They took more preorders for Switch than they could cover.
Maybe we'll get an estimation of initial shipment for Japan as March 3 comes closer. What was once a given for launches now remains a question.
It might not be out for a while but Bamco is meant to be announcing God Eater details this month and I still think there's a chance they Toukiden it(or even worse go PS4 exclusive).
Are you expecting no additional allocation to stores that have already sold out for preorders?
There is still a month till the system drops - that would be a strange policy
So with Kimishima and Aonuma's Edge comments it seems that 3DS will have indeed a successor different than the Switch. First meltdown incoming! But the second one will be better :3
Realistically, it'll be PS4 in Japan and Asia, PS4/Steam in the West. Namco are too short sighted to do a Switch version.Does anyone really think God Eater 3 will be anything but Pee Ass Fore?
Where does this notion that RE7 was somehow "a lot" cheaper than RE5 and/or 6 to make? I keep seeing this "its cheap" notion but I am not seeing it in a truly substantial form aside from the thought that: "Well this project probably wasn't a mismanaged mess of ideas and confusion like RE6."
A project on a shoestring budget (ie. much cheaper than its predecessor) is a Bravely Default -> Bravely Second transition. This project, while not an unwieldy octopus like RE6, was still from what I can tell from my play time pretty much crafted entirely from scratch (and rather well, uncanny "humans" aside) with very highly detailed HD-era work on textures, environments, interactivity, and models. I am not really getting any sense of this project somehow being "cheap" in any capacity. So these sales drops just don't seem to me like "oh they'll make money and be happy with it" from a marque-AAA IP.
Is Capcom now a low/mid-tier company that is happy with "oh we broke even"/"oh we made a little money"? (I mean... well, ya, maybe they are already there.)
Abandoning Japanese market going for lower western sales too is something I still try to understand how is the greater good.

If the close to 380k shipment figure from Dengeki is true, there might be some discounts unless it's got good legs.Chris, husky any idea about the REVII shipment? I'm expecting a 250-300.000 first shipment so we'll see if it can sell it without hitting the Bomba bins (I'm almost sure that'll be the case).

not ok. if you know answer, please explain big differences between trackers.
If you don't know what they tracked don't post false theories.
this is not the answer.
After or before selling 100m of Switch?

Hahaha 2 totally different things and you know it ;D Anyway they also wanted to sell Wii numbers with Wii U and you see what happened...
All I can say is that Nintendo has put (and is putting) a lot of effort on Switch to sell much more than Wii U and GC but I don't think they really expect to sell 100 million. Switch is a huge bet for Nintendo (maybe its biggest one yet) so if it sells again Wii U/GC numbers Nintendo will be in deeper problems than its lowest moments in the Wii U lifetime.
Switch is indeed a risky project, comparable to DS and Wii that's why it will be exciting to follow how it will perform.Hahaha 2 totally different things and you know it ;D Anyway they also wanted to sell Wii numbers with Wii U and you see what happened...

lol, this is not true at all. FPS do pretty well in Japan.
Last year, a friend whose a huge Bio Hazard fan told me he was not sure if he's going to buy it because its a FPS game. Maybe people who really like Bio Hazard wanted a TPS unlike gamers from other countries.
I know CoD and BF are popular, but I think the market is different between Bio Hazard fans and FPS fans,
Just my 2 cents.

Friend is Japanese btw.
If Nintendo go for a completely separate handheld they have officially lost their minds. It's a colossally stupid idea.
Nintendo may be forced to. They have cratered their console business. While the handheld industry is on a big decline globally, Nintendo is doing much better there relatively and much of their success comes from Japanese sales. Nintendo will favour Japan over the West as its more crucial for their business, for better or more likely for worse.
Sharing the same architecture and unifying the software creation process doesn't mean that both will have the same software, so I can see a handheld device with exclusive software regarding the Switch and vice versa.
But for now 3DS still has at least one more year in the spotlight alongside the Switch.
