Great and interesting charts! The Handheld market is still decent/good (not amazing though), but the console market is dire. They'll need more than Square Enix games to save it...
if it can be saved.

in japan, the 3DS is actually having a good fight. it blew past GBA a while ago and just passed PSP and is gonna beat PS2 before it's discontinued. the only dedicated gaming devices higher than it are original GB's combined sales and DS sales.

it's the west where the 3DS really fell. it's telling when the 3DS is still millions away from catching the PSP and GBA's total sales when it already passed their JP sales; especially the PSP which was supposed to be strong in japan and dead in the west.

The western PSP hardware numbers were always mystifying to me. It seemed like it didn't do that well, especially on the software side, but over time it amounted a fairly substantial number. It certainly started off strong, so that probably helped.

3DS is probably pretty close to PSP in west launch aligned (or at least not so much behind that it would explain the huge hw gap). Last I checked it wasn't too much behind PSP launch aligned in US (and might catch it if it has somewhat better legs) and in PAL land it has done decently at least in the biggest markets like Germany and France. It's non traditional markets where PSP has crushed 3DS and why there will be pretty sizable gap between the two in WW LTD sales.

Those posted earlier were charts about the best selling titles for 2015. Instead, All-Time charts show sales from Wii U launch to now.
Now, it must be said that such sporadic updates could be due to Nintendo not refreshing charts as much as they did in the past. You see, so far Nintendo has been refreshing eShop rankings every three hours...but, for the past few weeks, it seems they updated once...a week. If not more. In fact, last week, current and All-Time japanese charts stayed exactly the same till December 29th, when the weekly top 10 was posted. That's when Minecraft went from 9th to 3rd on All-Time charts. The same happened from December 29th to a few hours ago: charts didn't change at all. BriBri, who is a Japanese 3DS owner, while stating there can be discrepancies, confirmed online and eShop charts aligned, yesterday, before the new refresh.

Now, though, it would seem strange to be a Japanese-only phenomenon. And it's possible it isn't. I've been checking italian Wii U eShop charts, and while I can't say for sure that charts were unmoving between December 22nd to December 29th (but, when I looked, they seemed to be not moving), I can definitely say that, since December 29th, charts stayed exactly the same, despite new releases and deals ending. Now, just checked and...yes, Italian Wii U charts finally changed, showing new releases and different positions.

Btw, since All-Time charts changed as well

- Overall Italian All-Time Charts show Minecraft as 8th, and Fast Racing NEO as 20th. Earlier, Minecraft was 13th, and FRN was out of top 20
- Wii U only Italian All-Time Charts show Minecraft as 6th and FRN as 11th. Previously, they were respectively 8th and 14th

So, since this change seems to be going on (or, at least, it happened in the past few weeks) both on Japanese and Italian charts, I suppose this refresh-time change involves all countries' eShop charts.

Last year ZhugeX (I am horrible with names, sorry if I mistyped the user name) was a very big contributor to acquiring the book. Not sure if he would still be interested in investing this year, since he has been permanently banned.
Hiska-Kun will have to keep us updated, the years before last the book was just rented from libraries instead of purchased, so maybe that is an option again this year - I would love to chime in again with some budget to buy the thing though, but the Euro course is doing the case no favours.

But no sales numbers are shared.

Last year ZhugeX (I am horrible with names, sorry if I mistyped the user name) was a very big contributor to acquiring the book. Not sure if he would still be interested in investing this year, since he has been permanently banned.
Hiska-Kun will have to keep us updated, the years before last the book was just rented from libraries instead of purchased, so maybe that is an option again this year - I would love to chime in again with some budget to buy the thing though, but the Euro course is doing the case no favours.

I think I'd chip in this year too, I've consulted the 2014 translation many times so would be very interested to see 2015 too.

Zhuge is still posting quite regularly on Twitter and still seems very interested in numbers, so there's a possibility I guess.

Just dug up the 2013 list we have, unfortunately Hiska only did 1-200 and the rest were screenshots (still appreciate it though and it's a lot better than nothing!)

Did we ever get figures for 2012, does anyone happen to know? Couldn't find it anywhere on a quick search.

The currency of my country had a massive drop against US dollar, but I am willing to contribute this year within what I can.

Pretty sad that neither Yoshi, Kirby nor Xenoblade had solid sales this year despite the Splatoon and Mario Maker push. I expected them to sell similar to Captain Toad at least.

Well, at least, Nintendo is picking up some mindshare again.

If they manage to get the japanese 3rd parties on board, that are finally gearing up for this console gen, they could have a solid first year of whatever NX will be.

YW Busters's legs are quite insane for a spin-off, it's going to end up rather close to Shin Uchi's sales despite opening much lower.

I'm excited to see how YW3 performs.

Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how L5 will play this year. YW Busters should keep selling well in early 2016, then there's Yo-kai x Sangokushi (perhaps Golden Week?) for which I'm not expecting huge numbers (300-400k maybe?) - L5 should release YW3 in early July at the latest.

Yes. Me too. It feels like the series peaked with YW2/Shin Uchi, but Busters is doing way better than I would have expected. I do suspect the delay of YW3 made it more desirable last year, though.
