Men's Fashion |OT| Style is eternal; But my wallet isn't

what are some good brands that aren't too, "posh-fashion" looking? I like wearing stuff that feels rough and well made and that you can get dirty. Plads, dark heavy jeans, leather jackets, etc. It gets cold where I live.

Carhartt for outer wear.
Levi when indoors

Other than that I shop second hand.

What are some other brands to check out? Keep in mind I have a thin frame so nothing that runs too baggy.

I bought a couple of jackets for the fall and winter season over the summer in clearance sections of stores, but I do want a more vibrant winter coat. I was thinking of maybe a rust/dark red coat or something in a slightly lighter colour that shows off patterns.

These are all pretty much from SuitSupply, but I'm not looking for theirs specifically:
A lot of cool clothes here. These are like wardrobe dedication and menswear. So not quite me. I'm definitely gonna go diving through suitsupply.

It's Urban Outiftters but what do you guys think of this bomber? Not sure how versatile the green is though.

I have to be in business attire daily for work, but I figured I might as well make it fun. I've been wearing chinos all summer along with my different jackets, which is probably stretching the "business attire" rule.

In terms of my casual wardrobe, I'm definitely all set there. I have jeans in varying washes to swap in and out of, and in a couple of different styles (skinny, slim).

That looks fine, I think. Nicely contrasts the usual black, blue and dark brown hues you'd see in the fall and winter.

Suggestions on a good winter coat? I've had a peacoat for a while, so am not opposed to a new one, but wanted to see what else it out there too.

I'd be wearing it to work, as well as dressed down with jeans.

Can't go wrong with a parka. Works with a lot of outfits. Old Navy sells them pretty much every year for a good price for around $100 or less.

green is very versatile with a lot of neutral colors (blacks/greys/whites/browns) i would say, as long as it's dark/olive, brighter greens tend to be a bit trickier. i have something similar to that (it's not a bomber or quilted in the same manner but... they're both kinda poofy i guess), it's a down shirt jacket from crescent down works and it's my favorite. the weather here doesn't really allow me to wear it too often though.

So for my wedding, our colors are dark blue, steel, grey I believe. Thoughts on a grey suit, dark blue undershirt and no tie?
Or even that with some color of bow tie?

Edit:

Maybe something like this, but add a dark blue bow tie and pocket square, and change the shoes and belt to a brown.

Man, if I was getting married and dark blue was one of the colors my wife and I decided on, I'd use that as an opportunity to buy the midnight blue tuxedo I've always wanted.

If you really want to make a statement, DC, you'll look into one of those.

Otherwise, grey is good. Just make sure it's not too business-esque.

Thinking about buying the 15.5cm hem corduroy pants SLP made this season. Is corduroy substantially thicker than denim for the winter?
Depends on what kind of denim you're used to. If it's typical designer stuff, made partially with elastane, then yeah, the cords will be substantially thicker. If you wear raw denim then the cords will feel like paper. It's all relative, basically.

.

There are some nice blue tuxes. Issue is I want to be able to use the suit for things in the future, and a tux is more limited in use.

Just an undershirt seems kinda under dressed.

..

...

Also I'm not a fan of shirts being darker than the suit.

Bow tie!

The dark thing, yeah, I'm still deciding. I also was thinking a navy 3 piece suit. Think Daniel Craig at the end of Casino Royale when he's got the SMG.

OR

A classy as-hell navy tux. I just don't know where else I could reuse it.

So, I finally had the chance to check out Suit Supply.

I got really taken care of throughout the whole process of picking a suit to getting it tailored. The employee I dealt with looked me over and was able to size me perfectly. All I needed was hemming in the end.

I'm definitely going to go back for my next suit.

Anyone got tips about what kind of pants to wear with a sportscoat like this? Dark raw denim works pretty well, but I'm not sure what else would look good. I'm not too fond of the grey that they've matched it up with in this picture.

Light brown or navy, I think.

What do you guys think of Maharishi? Really love the stuff they are making. Not all of it, but some of it is really nice. I really like brands that try to do things differently and that have art at their heart (har har). So many clothing brands lack a soul, we need brands like these every once in a while. Sadly it's rather difficult to find anywhere here in stores.

I might get these shorts. They have a sweater in the same pattern but it's more difficult to find.

On another note, my go-to brand this summer was Scotch & Soda, I got some really nice shorts and t-shirts from them, really happy with all my purchases.

bumping for advice

also, where can I get some authentic long sleeve plaid/stripe/solid cowboy shirts? (not wrangler)

I'm looking to buy maybe one or two genuine old fashion high quality cowboy shirts made in the US

no brands come to mind immediately, not my dept, really, but peep context clothing, self edge, and union made goods for some guidance. there are a lot of 'heritage' oriented brands out there right now, good eating to be had.

stuff here is on FUCKING point. omg.

$$$$ so I feel vain considering this as a purchase option.

damn there are some quality looking shirts here though.

I should probably wait for a special occasion to buy some from here.

unionmade has a good buy. just skip alex mill even though it may look cool. shits garbaggio.

sale season is a good time to stock up, might see a labor day flash sale or two.

this is more of a "does this size fit me" post rather than if what I'm wearing looks good.

I have love handles and i'm not really over weight or anything ( 5'7 - 139 pounds ) so i feel kind of self conscious about it

What kinds of coats do you all like?
All kinds, literally anything. I have everything ranging from tailored dress coats through leather jackets to sporty hoodies. Just ordered this:

DKNY Lightweight Harrington - £300 £70

Along with these:

Firetrap "Sir Alex" Khaki - £70 - £23

Went through Suit Supply. Feel like 399 is a bit too rich when I'll probably grow out of my suit as I continue to work out.

Their suits are slim-fitting, so it's definitely good to keep that in mind when you bulk up.

That being said, their suits do allow for some tailoring to accommodate changes in sizing.

The shirt is perfect. That's exactly how it should fit to your body.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm torn and my girlfriend is of no help. I'm buying motorcycle riding gear and want it to look good enough to wear around off the bike as well. Right now I am pretty set on these boots, but may just wear Red Wing Iron Rangers:

Having said that, I'm not sure if I should go with black jacket/black gloves, brown jacket/brown gloves or a mixture of the two. These are the ones I've picked out:

What do you guys think--should I go with black or brown, or maybe go for an entirely different jacket/gloves?

anybody have a recommended article or video on how to get my exact measurements for shirts and pants?

also, thoughts on filson? their shirts are a bit pricey but they look real nice and of great quality. any similar brands?

It's probably easier to measure the pants and shirts themselves and compare them to measurement of other clothes

I wear iron rangers when I ride. They look good and are certainly strong enough to handle a crash. Saved my ankle once during a minor crash that resulted in the bike landing on my foot. As for jackets, I'm not a fan of the stripe on the arm. If you're looking for something that is good on and off the bike try schott. Plenty of good stuff whether you want a cafe jacket, or a perfecto, or whatever.

Guys, I saw this leather jacket for £140 and loved its simplicity and the fact it doesn't have over the top zippers all over it and a code allowed me to get it for £115, though I seemed to have missed the cut off and it's charging me £140.

I do like it, but is it £140 worthy to keep?

no idea of the quality but it certainly looks nice; good shape and classic style.
ah. so measure a couple of my best fitting shirts and pants and then use those measures for when I'm shopping? what if I'm online shopping?
most of the upper end indie stores will have very detailed sizing info. ebay crossreferencing also helps in some cases.

Thanks for the info on the Red Wings. I ended up ordering the Dainese boots, but if they don't feel up much more protective than the rangers, I'll end up returning them.

As for jackets, Schott has some great stuff but damn is it expensive. The jackets I listed are just shy of $300 without armor. Either way, I ended up going with black but may end up flip flopping. When I upgrade my jacket in the future, I'll up my budget and keep Schott in mind.
