I always find it funny how they also think that all expensive clothing is still made in a 3rd world country and is really no different then their cheap stuff , as if the only thing you pay for is the label.

I guess that's why for example denim heads buy jeans of labels that 99% of people never heard off.

Casual enough it wouldn't look out of place if I were to wear out around the city, formal enough that I wouldn't be looked down upon if I were to wear it to a relatively nice evening occasion. Suit-friendly is a nice bonus, but probably not required. Price range is up to £150 or so; only a student so can't really afford to break the bank over it.

EDIT: The Filson stuff is nice, but they don't do UK-shipping.

Amazon has a subsidiary called East Dane that has some Filson coats. They ship worldwide. Look for the Seattle fit or size down.

I should add that there ought to be more clarity/transparency on the 'made in Italy' tag, because some labels only have the clothes 'finished' in Italy (i.e. final details, buttons) in order to use the 'made in Italy' tag whilst the majority of the actual making occurred elsewhere. (I'm not referring to where the (raw) materials/cloth is sourced from, but rather the actual making of the garment).

So I'm looking for a good shoulder bag, fairly large (enough for a 16" laptop), under $100. I'm checking the usual channels, but it's often hard to tell with buying a bag online. Anyone have any personal picks they'd like to share? Much appreciated.

I'm not sharing what my typical style of dress is because I don't want people to feel their picks need to be too narrowed down. But I wear a lot of stuff from Uniqlo and H&M.

I picked up a couple of pairs of khakis, and already I'm seeing dirt, scratches and scuffs on them. I don't usually bump into things or generally be in dirty areas, but it's like a magnet.

My old pair of khakis have those dirt, scratches and scuffs stick permanently. I wash them normally, should I try a different way of washing, or is there a better way to remove them?

Went shopping over the weekend and bought a bunch of stuff from H&M and Zara. I had a 25% off coupon for H&M that I used on a pair of blue pants, and I also picked up two henleys (black and white). Then I went to Zara and was stunned by the amount of good stuff they have. I ended up leaving with a button-up shirt, a green jacket, a scarf, and a really nice cardigan that looks like a suit jacket. I spent $265 all in, which is pretty decent considering the amount of stuff I got.

I was really tempted to pick up this Ted Baker shirt, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $165 on it...

They should be washing out unless you're letting them set for a long time, assuming they are pure cotton... what kind of khakis are these? I don't have 'khakis' but all my casual cotton pants clean up after a wash or dry clean (light grey/olive/etc). You could always get darker khakis, too.

100% cotton.

I give my pants a maximum of a week before I wash them.

Hey guys. Its been a while, or very long, since I last posted here. I'm in the market for a slim fitting, navy blue suit. It doesn't have to be anything special, but I would prefer it to be of good quality. If anyone has anything to offer I'd appreciate it. I'd say I have up to $1000 to spend on it.

A little more expensive than your budget, but I'd say that the extra $200 is worth it. Also, if you're ordering online, size down one. Burberry London suits run big.

could probably get something z zegna for that much, especially with the sales on or paul smith though it probably won't be slim before alterations

Lol ;P

I just generally like to recommend a superb quality and long lasting suit. Skeptical Panda, I would actually, in your case, suggest Gieves & Hawkes as they'll be much more open to the slim fit.

Of course Burberry London is good too, but I wouldn't order online yet, instead go to one of the stores and see one of the specialist tailors, who would recommend which size to order. Furthermore the tailor can do various (free) alterations (including leg tapering which is ideal for slim fit suits).

I'd avoid buying online unless it's something truly mass produced like a nike jersey. You never know with the fit and the models used for the pictures isn't an accurate representation as that particular garment is tailored on the spot for that model for the press pictures

Apparently synthese's instagram/twitter got leaked on Styleforum and he had a meltdown. Anyone know anything about that?

can't say I know anything about that. synth is a cool dude from my interactions with him, however fleeting, so I hope this doesn't drive him away from the internets.

if we're thinking about the same thing, probably not. he's still posting anyways.

Since I don't care about #Mensware and don't go on Styleforum, who's Synthese?

well that's a blatant lie

I got my Johnston & Murphy monk straps on Monday. They are BEAUTIFUL. Now I just need to pick up a good shoe care kit for this and my Strands. Any suggestions for a good, reasonably priced set?

Is there such a thing that's built like a trench (lightweight fabric, no padding, minimal design) but cut like a peacoat (shorter length, slimmer fit)?
...and won't ruin me financially?
Being 5'4" means I cannot wear the traditional trench. Ever.

Got my first office job, so I need some new business casual clothes. Some of the guys there will wear jeans and an untucked flannel shirt, while some are very neatly dressed, so there's a range I can go for. Any suggestions where to start looking, or suggestions for specific items? I definitely want to keep it under $50 per article. I've already got the shoes (tan).

So mangaf, I need your help. The bf and I are going to a wedding next month and we basically have to get an entire outfit for him coz he has nothing except some baggy trousers and a pair of black shoes. Can anyone give me an idea of colors that would compliment the dress I'm wearing?

Dress is here

I'm thinking fitted charcoal trousers and vest but am unsure of a shirt. Default will probably be white if we can't find annything else. From reading this and other fashion threads I'm keeping him away from black suits and red shirts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not a big fan of that dress...

For him, I would suggest:

If its a summer/spring wedding:

Lower budget:
H&M > Topman > Asos

Higher:
Suit Supply > J Crew

I'd recommend different brands, but at J Crew you'd at least be able to try them out in the store and have them tailored when you purchase them.

1x chino (don't mind the crappy pics. They fit much better than they look.)
1x navy dress pant
3x OCBD shirt
2x dress shirt
2x sweater

Thanks! I'll show him and see what he thinks. I quite like the first one.

What don't you like about the dress? People have said it suits me quite well :(

He needs a suit. What's your budget? Oh you're in Australia..I have no clue about what stores are there.

Get a charcoal or grey suit though. He'll need it in the future, so might as well go for versatility.

To complement that dress, white shirt with a burgundy or red tie.

I'm leaning more towards a grey suit. Though I don't think we'll be needing a tie or jacket coz it's in the middle of summer. Not sure on his budget, will have to check.

This is a pretty popular store here, will probably drag him here. http://www.yd.com.au/

No jacket!? It's a wedding! You gotta suit up. Is this an outdoor wedding?

Looking at the suits at that store though...I'm seeing a bunch of polyester and viscose blends. Not good. Pass on that.

He might buy a jacket but considering we may be in for 30c+++ weather, he won't be wearing it. It's an inside wedding thankfully but we have to prepare for the worst temperature wise.

What material would you recomend then? I know nothing about suits
