Metal Gear Solid V SPOILER THREAD| [EXTR3ME] Such a lust for conclusion, T-WHHOOOO

Slapping credits at the end of a cutscene does not make it an ending.

An ending has to, you know, end a narrative.

Big Boss ending is a good ending, it just is not connected to anything and is completely random in how you get to it. Yup there is no narrative that really gels it together, it's like, here's your ending without any lead up into it

4 endings, actually. You forgot the nuclear disarmament ending.

True. Didn't get that one yet though, ha. Don't think anyone did yet.

Actually, this game has 50 endings! Didn't you see the credits? if you're not satisfied by mission 9's ending, you shouldn't even be playing this game. Everything after mission 9 is a bonus, a gift.

Technically, you're not wrong.

And two of them sucked balls. The other one was mediocre at best.

Your argument does nothing to counter mine. You find the endings to be bad? Tough luck. They're still endings.

Do you even need me to turn this on you or could you do me a solid and just start explaining how any of these were any less of an ending than the final cutscene in MGS2 were nothing is explained and a bunch of exposition on meme's is thrown in my face?

so quiet activates the parasites by speaking english and it doesn't infect/kill venom snake? why?

i thought they were able to kill the strains by making the carrier infertile. what happened to that method?

A good ending isn't just a single cutscene. It's an entire process that starts from the beginning of the story. It's like constructing a building.

On that level... yeah, MGS2 has a better ending. Weird-ass as it is. But MGS2 itself is bizarre, so I guess you get what you get.

But MGS3 has one of the best endings ever.

They didn't mention if he died though or I probably missed. I just figured they would make a bigger deal out of it.

Of course, it's Big Boss who has emotional reactions. You can brainwash Medic into having his memories, but you can't change his brain chemistry. Medic is stoic as fuck in regards to most things.

"Chico's dead."

"o ok"

The wolbachia make the parasites infertile; the host's infertility is just a side effect.

I agree MGS3's ending is on another level because it manages to not only be long, but to keep it interesting throughout. MGS1's is very similar, albeit shorter and more focused. So those get props.

It was not my intention to counter whatever "argument" you wanted to make. I'm just saying it like it is. The endings sucked.

Well, never mind then. I refuse to discuss whether something is "good" or "bad" in someone else's mind. That wholly subjective.

It's in one of the tapes you get very early on after getting out of the hospital. It's a real shame he died though. I felt like Kojima was going to actually try to address torture and its implications on a child. Instead they just throw him away like used garbage.

"FEEL THE PAIN OF THIS POOR CHILD. LOOK AT THE HORRORS OF WAR. Or don't, he just died and no one spoke of or remembered him again. Oops."

Chico's naive patriotism and excitement for revolution and war were something I really wanted to see get crushed and destroyed. But instead, we got another hastily used character tossed aside when they're no longer needed (Pax, Grey Fox, etc).

so why didn't they just do that to english strain carriers?
Code Talker says Quiet refused Wolbachia treatment because part of her still wanted revenge. It's a weak excuse, but unless I'm missing something, that's it.

Personally, if she was on my base, tied to a chair, and I suspected she could kill all English speakers just by talking too much, I'd give her a shot of that stuff Ocelot used to knock her out when she went crazy and knifed the guy in the teeth. Then I'd pry open those sweet, sweet lips and give her some Wolbachia loving, and hope that Huey doesn't row back in his boat and mutate them with his beta-ray goggles.

(I love this zany game)

Wouldn't she die if the Wolbachia got on her? I mean, she's got parasites keeping her alive. If those stop reproducing, her bodily ecosystem would vanish and she would slowly die, right?

I'm gonna have to listen again. I listen to most of the tapes while waiting for operations to finish or making weapons.

It's easy to miss if you aren't paying attention I can't remember what tape it's on but it's just a throwaway line saying he didn't make it.

Maybe. That'd be an interesting reason. I can't recall if the game explicitly said anything to that effect, though.

Quiet has an interesting situation. Her vital functions are maintained by one group of parasites. She's given special powers (superhuman speed, resilient skin, optical camouflage) by a second group of parasites. And she's a carrier for a third group of parasites: the English-language strain of the vocal cord parasites.

Normally, once activated, the English-language strain would copulate in her throat, the larvae consuming her lungs as a result. This would kill her. However, her lungs are no longer functional, and she doesn't need them to survive. In theory, the larvae could eat whatever is left of her lungs and it wouldn't kill her.

After a period of time, though, she would be a walking bioweapon. She hightailed it out of there before she could infect anyone, but the question remains: Is she still out there in the desert? Will she put a bullet to her brain or succumb to dehydration, or will she survive and simply avoid civilization?

yeah but at least he had his sweet headphone jack in his chest for the final bit of his life.

which of course is never really explained ever though we do get like +30 fucking minutes of tapes on WOLBACHIA

I don't know that Chico would be the kind of character to record a tape explaining his own motivations. And that would be the only way we'd get information on that situation.

I thought we got some good insight as to who Chico is during GZ.

Also.. i am one that chuckled when i heard the news on a tape that Chico did die. Even Amanda i think dismissed the fact that he died haha.

Oh Chico. We await your resurrection as a pachinko machine.

its funny how after Quiet leaves in mission 45 her pictures are missing in the ACC.

i want her back :/
Rain feels so empty now without Quiet sponging up the water with her boobs

Her waifu power has almost made me forget she's a psycho murderer

I don't know why but I never expected this game to be some shocking 'missing link' or 'big bosses dramatic downfall'. I mean, I watched all the trailers but I never really expected it to end with big boss being some jerk sitting around in outer heaven. I'm so glad I didn't have these expectations because the story we got was so much more interesting and subtle then a straight lead into MG1. Maybe it's just me. I'm still left unsatisfied by the obvious unfinished nature of the game but Overall as a standalone story I'm in love with it. I'm sure the usual offenders in this thread will now give me a written thrashing and tell me how I'm objectively wrong about everything and blinded by my kojima fanboyness.

I mean, you COULD elaborate on what you thought was so great about it instead of preemptively attacking people who might disagree with you.

For starters though, there's a difference between "subtle" and "empty" that I think some people are confused about when it comes to the story.

I agree it's a good story, with all of the beats necessary, and a certain nuance to it that makes it interesting. But no need to be upset if there are people who don't feel the same way. Just embrace the subjective nature of this discussion and treat it as an insight into the way each person relates with the franchise.

The infighting in this thread is starting to remind me of the low morale scene. C'mon, guys, do I need to force one of you to stab me to remind you we're all family?

Let's think happy thoughts. Rainy boobs and Pax Hamburgana.

Alright.

I am really happy that the game lets you do all the cool bits. Nothing is really scripted (Except for the obvious prologue and mission 43) but most missions just happen organically. I think you being able to adapt to any situation based on your play style is amazing, and not many games allow you to do that in such a way.

I do think that the game needs to engage you more than you should engage it for it to be interesting.
