What I really like is the birthday cutscene when Quiet is around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQfNMZD60yw

Now that's some real trust by Venom. Overall I agree that the execution of their relationship could have been much better, but I still appreciated some of those small moments.
Yeah, cigar scene is good. Venom is so trusting of Quiet. :) Another scene I like is the flash of panic Venom shows in the chloride scene, one of the few times he breaks composure and visibly loses his cool. You can tell he's growing too attached to her at that point. It's a nice touch along with the changing body language, etc.

OK, so I've completed the game with the butterfly emblem enabled, and so still have Quiet on board, to mop up the side missions, so without going back through all the pages here, is there one story mission, that reappears, if you remove said butterfly from your emblem, or is there more than one?

Cheers.
Quiet's departure is tied with one side-op mission which triggers/unlocks the remaining main mission immediately afterward. It should appear sometime after you've removed the emblem assuming you've passed a few other small checkpoints (ex: Huey's exile from Mother Base, etc.).

I don't know about you guys but I always thought part of the charm of games was finding weird and cool shit that isn't just thrown in your face at all times for no real reason.

That only works if the parts of the game the majority of players do see are completely fleshed out. Several stretches of the main plot being notably undercooked but numerous hidden conditions triggering their own full cutscenes seems more like a sign of the scars left by rescoping the game later in development.

But that's a different issue entirely as we're talking about a non-vital scene that only happens on your birthday, I don't disagree that there shouldn't be important things hidden away (depending on the context).

I read you differently, seemed like you wanted more scenes in general hidden, which I thought a pretty weird stance.

I want more stuff that's made to be hidden for one reason or another, not stuff that is made and then hidden, that's ridiculous.

You mean easter eggs, a trademark of the franchise and something this game has extremely little of for whatever reason.

In fact, the only easter egg I can think of is shooting Ocelot with a tranq gun and he'll mumble "LaLiLuLeLo" and "two plus two equals five".

Anyone know anything else?

Use lvl.3 Stun Arm lightning when fighting man on fire to immediately defeat him. It's a reference to Volgin death scene in MGS3.

Press triangle/action button when carrying Miller to say "kept you waiting huh?"

You can capture Tsuchinoko in Afrika

Certain bowel movement tapes

There's a mouse that hide in a box during Voice mission for some reason

Liquid will say "it's not over yet snake" when you face him during white mamba mission

Zoom function during cutscene.

there's probably more of it.

I avoided spoilers until I'd finished the game. Looks like I've lost Quiet then, I never used the butterfly emblem :C

I actually twigged that Quiet was in trouble from the trailer for Chapter 2 after completing Ch 1. I then looked it up as no way am I losing her for the side mission mop up.

Finally finished mission 46, saw the other set of credits and learned of the true phantom. Absolutely loved this game.

It sucks that I finally visited these OT now and find two 400 page threads and this third one. On the other threads, people have had complaints that I wish I could address but it's too late now.

I suspected the body double throughout the whole games(like Heuy not really recognizing Venom Snake at first) but the reveal with my avatar and showing the truth felt really emotional. Now I want to switch Snake for my avatar and see my character sitting in the helicopter when I'm preping for a mission.

I also dig that Mantis and Liquid are now partners, something that lasted through MGS1 till Solid kills Mantis. In MGS1, those two trusted each other a lot and this shows they've known each other for a while.

Big Boss's history was always cryptic and the body double reveal fills in the pieces to me. People wondered why BB and Zero were still friend yet were against each other. It seems now that it was more due to Zero wanted the legend of Big Boss to live strong and this ruse allowed that to happen. Even though Zero and BB were at odds, they still needed each other.

This game solidifies that Solid is still the baddest ass Snake in the series. I'm starting to see it a bit like Star Wars where some assumed Vader was the one to bring balance to the force but it turned out to be his son, Luke, instead. Snake is the real hero. Makes the microwave scene in MGS4 even more tragic.

My only complaint is just about Quiet's lack of clothing and I got her the XOF suit just so I don't have people wondering what pevertrd game I'm playing.

Music was great in the game, most of the tapes were interesting. The burger tapes had me laughing out loud.

I wanted to kill Huey so bad, could hear the bullshit from his interrogations. The Strangelove tape was amazing and tragic (Like I said, fuck Huey). I felt bad for him that his son would sleep with his new wife but now.... I think Venom or Miller said it would catch up to him and it did.

Love the game, think many of people gripes they have seemed to be based out of personal expectations of what people wanted. I think Kojima delivered.

Rant over.

Even though it's a retcon, that line adds some extra meaning to the fact his death was a suicide. The internal denial of his despicable crimes possibly pushing him to the limit, and all it took was some casual lighthearted fun-loving incest to completely push him over.

Standing in line for the Just Cause 3 nycc panel and the group in front of me were just raving about this game. Best game ever. Kojima is a genius. The ending was brilliant and perfectly ties into metal gear.

Wss kinda funny to hear in person. This game is so divisive.

GAF is a bubble and does not reflect the mainstream. Here you'll get people pulling the Simpsons Comic Book Guy act -- "Worst. Thing. Ever." -- but elsewhere people seem to be more positive.

There's two bubbles. Normal people, the bubble free zone, aren't going to be raving.

Eh different people have different opinions on different things. Being divisive can be a good thing.

Criticism and discussion are healthy and it's why we're all here. But there is an unfortunate side effect of people feeling the need to squash opinions they don't share, which is more likely when someone doesn't like something than when they do, so it's easy for the consensus to seem negative when it's in fact mixed.

Sharing different experiences and interpretations is wonderful, trying to "Actually..." everyone into submission is tedious.

Thankfully that hasn't really happen in this series of threads (at least as far as i've seen) everything has been pretty cool.

Pretty much this. MGSV is the Skyfall of games. You can go to OT and say you liked the movie and people will say that it gave them cancer and that's one of the worst Bond movies ever. You can ask any person outside the forum and you'll probably find praise for that movie.

But Skyfall is actually worse than Solace.

Yeah.

Maybe Snake Eater is Casino Royale, Peace Walker is Quantum of Solace and The Phantom Pain is Skyfall.

I loved both Skyfall and The Phantom Pain.

I completed Snake Eater in less that 3,5 hours back in the day. Speedrunning doesn't count

Its wasn't speed running dude. I just picked the closest point to drop and ran.

Speed running involves planning, preparation, and skilled execution. This involved holding the stick forward and maybe pressing a button now and then.

Looks like a pretty clear father daughter relationship between venom and quiet to me. The fact that they never speak is pretty cool. You don't need words to form a bond.

What the...

If a dad ever frolics with his daughter in the rain like Venom and Quiet do, you should call the police.

Nah they was as me father used to say "About two jams from a howdy ho-down".
They were gonna bang

Finally built all the platforms for mother base and came to the relization of how dissapointing it all is. It feels so lifeless. Its nothing but a handful of roaming guards and cranes moving forward and back. I wish they added different characteristics to each platform. For instance the combat platform should have had a dedicated firing range, obsticale courses, guards practicing CQC, troops preparing for deployment. R&D would show guns and equipment being developed, retrofitting fultoned vehicles. Base development could have had staff working in a refinery, welding struts, unloading shipping containers. Support could show helicopters and fighter jets being fueled and loaded up with ammo, fulton devices being packed.Intel would be studying maps, interrogating prisoners. Medical has doctors in a medbay treating wounded, practicing cpr. Overall I just wish it felt more like a base. Helicopters flying by and practicing touch and go's,patrol boats out in the water, the whaling ship is docked close by,show the barracks and mess hall, etc.

For as long as I've been on the internet and whined about Metal Gear, I have never seen anyone complain about Big Boss coming back between Metal Gears 1 and 2.

Big Boss surviving an explosion is the most plausible (and for Metal Gear, mundane!) thing ever considering the insane shit he pulled off in Snake Eater. It's hilarious that Kojima tried to address it. Maybe it bothered him?

Really? They don't even touch. I've played in the rain with my kids like this. It's playful and childlike I even hugged my son and kissed him on the cheek. Call the cops I guess.
He never even looks at her boobs even once. I mean that must be a feat of superhuman self control right there if he wanted to bang her.

Yep mother base is really boring

Ok So I just beat mission 46 and started Mission 45. Is there anything beyond this?

Also Mission 46 was pretty disappointing. It sucks gameplay-wise and the big secret wasn't that impressive. I wish I would have known only the beginning and end were different and I could have skipped all the cutscenes.

Also why does the Man on Fire destroy all of XOF if he is working for skull face?

Nope.

Yeah, they clearly had bigger plans for the final mission that fell through during development.

I think he's just there by coincidence and not working for XOF yet, Skullface recruits Kid Mantis at some undisclosed time later on.

I avoided any and all pre-release footage and trailers, so watching some of that stuff after I was done with the game, I was actually shocked how they misrepresented Mother Base and how active and important it would be.

Instead what any player will remember about their Mother Base the most is a bunch of menus.
