Few questions obviously, don't read if you haven't started it yet, though this is all very early game

1)
What is the flashing light above the building when Ocelot teaches you how to use the binoculars? It disappears when you take full control
2) Can you go back and get blueprints that you missed on the map, or do you have to replay the mission
3) What is the purpose of clearing outposts?
4) How do you interrupt the time passing with the cigar?

Pissed about with the cigar too much, went over 3 days thinking it would tell me I'd failed, it didn't so I played the mission only being spotted once with no alarms, found Kaz dead, Time Paradox. Have to do the whole mission again as the checkpoint is still 93 'hours' in, not too bothered though as I was treating it as something of a learning exercise

If this is better suited to the other thread let me know :)
4 isn't a spoiler. and to interrupt it, just tap left on your d-pad to unequip it.

Great OT Dawg.

I gotta admit, this thread makes me pretty sad because this is the first time it's really sank in that this will be the last real Metal Gear game we'll get...surreal. ;__;

What a great game to end it with though. o7

Gameplay spoiler:

How long is the day/night cycle? IIRC Kojima said it's 6 hour months ago, but I feel like the final build is much faster than that.

Any chance it releases earlier than 12:01 EST like Witcher 3 did for digital purchasers?

It's killing me that I couldn't find a copy this weekend in North Texas.

I never found out, I am guessing it was light reflecting.
2)
Yes you can, infact you can highlight a mission and look at the top right of the mission name and it'll show what this mission has that you could get in terms of special recruits as well as blueprints.
3)
Extra GMP and the ability to explore at your own leisure. Plus, it's damn satisfying.
4)
Just unequip it whenever you feel like it by pressing left on the D-pad.

Been a while since I've played Peacewalker so refresh my memory: Does BB know that Cipher is Zero?

TPP will have great backstory tapes so don't worry.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I'd say Fallout, MGSV and Witcher will all stand a chance, but all in their own very different ways.

MGSV will be about that sandbox gameplay.
Witcher will be about the world setting and storytelling.
Fallout will be about that Bethesda-ness that no other open-world games really dig deep into.

I think it'll end up being MGSV for sure at most sites (including GAF). But I'd argue Blodoborne at least deserves a spot on any "potential" list.

Great OT Dawg!

Cannot wait for this game. Probably the only game I'll be consistently playing throughout the whole year.

I bought the game on nuuvem, rushed to activate the key and activated on my brothers account on mistake...

Now I'm really really sad, and hoping nuuvem can deactivate the key and give me another one :(

Uh oh. Hope I didn't mess anything up. Mission 1 gameplay spoilers below:

Replayed the first mission where I rescue Miller. Found D Dog, Fulton'd him, and then got in my chopper without seeing the "delivered to Mother Base" message.

Just got back to MB and he is nowhere to be found. And apparently he is optional? I didn't screw this up, did I?

Since there isn't a difficulty setting in the game, is the AI as smart as in Ground Zeroes? It's sort of a pain in the ass in that game.

I'm not sure I like areas being so open in MGS.

GW manipulated people's thoughts and feelings through memes.

They were simply creating context. In context, MGS4 is a masterpiece. The game is meta commentary of how games were being lost to the Hollywood-ization of the industry. It truly is a masterpiece.

Nice OT thread.

When did MGS5 first begin development - I suppose that's directly tied to Fox Engine's development ~2010 ?

Those that have Pre-ordered through PSN PS4, can you do me a favor and see how many add-on items you have? I have 4. I pre-ordered after the XP Bonus was removed from the listing and was curious if that actually matters and if there's any way I can tell now.

Mild none story related question regarding animals in the game but I'll spoiler tag it just I'm case

Where is the zoo to keep the animals on mother Base? I'm pretty sure I've been told in the game that it's been built buy I've no idea where.

Excellent OT.

Now it looks like I won't be sleeping tomorrow night if they don't unlock the game early.

Nice work. Also I love the subtitle, it's a good Bowie reference and evocative of the game. I hate when game OT subtitles are too on the nose or make reference to a lot of ugly controversy invoking the making of the game. Like yeah we all know it's a Kojima game and that Konami sucks, etc etc, not worth dragging it out any longer. This one is much more creative and cool, keep it!

I'm sure it's been asked before (sorry), but is a play through of ground zeroes an absolute must before playing V?

Also, excellent thread op!

There should be something in the top right of the screen if you board a chopper in Motherbase
