Can someone tell me how to find the animal sanctuary on mother base? I was told it was built but I can't find it anywhere

Is it actually possible to do mission 8 without missiles? Those tanks are tough. Luckily my R&D department got to the right level in the middle of the mission and I was able to get them through a supply drop. I went in thinking C4 and a grenade launcher would be enough, but nope

I only had 4 and a grenade launcher. I took out the first one that way and then I used an armored missile carrier vehicle to take out the other one.

That side op where you get Huey Emmerich is all I wanted from a Metal Gear Solid game. BADASS. Took me a hour and 40 minutes and only ranked a C, but holy shit did I had fun sneaking my way through it. And that ending! WOOOOOW.

That's why I play MGS.
I havn't even watched the torture/interrogation scene yet, I just had to take a break, that was too much awesomeness in one sitting.

Spoiler this, mate. Did nothing to my experience but others will not want to know this is even in the game.

edit: sorry, didn't spoiler the quoted spoiler!

When you think about it, at any given moment you probably have 40+ actions you can perform. Maybe even almost 100. I think it's quite an achievement they even fit all of that into an interface at all.

Which probably is more telling that there are too many options and it could be streamlined a lot without losing anything. Development screen could be easier to browse, in base development it would be nice to see which platforms actually need upgrades (are almost full) and what the requirements are without clicking each one etc. Just lots of small things that amount to a mess.

Sneaking Suit is great, just don't use it in daytime missions unless you're travelling, sniping, or have a clear path with lots of bushes.

I've actually just used the sneaking suit all the time even in daytime. Seems to just require a bit more crawling though I haven't tried how big of a difference there is with them noticing you from a distance. I don't really like having to slowly crabwalk up to an enemy if you're not using it. Where's my desert camo sneaking suit damn it! I wish they just made it easy to change suits should you want to.

wow awesome! This opens up many playstyles and playthroughs now!

Yea it's great, one of the things i love to do at the moment is placing traps all over the base while im completing my objective to keep the guards occupied. If im about to get caught or need more distraction i set off the c4's i've placed around the base or on their equipment which gives me annother window of opportunity to do what needs to be done to complete the mission. It's so good :p

I don't think all of the targets appear at once so you kind of have to let the targets guide you around. It was kinda weird but at least the platform isn't a horrible maze like R&D.

Actually I made a mistake: I am actually talking about the R&D shooting mission. My top score is maybe 21. I've tried night vision goggles, following the targets, nothing is working. I always get horribly lost or make the wrong turn. Can I fire the guy who installed these at Mother Base?

You have to do the
legendary bear
side op mission.

Go to base. Call a helicopter. Push square I think when on the helicopter to fly between struts. On map push triangle. Enjoy.

I was 20h in and triangle didnt appeared to me on the map until I did the said side op.

Since there isn't a score penalty for each person you kill any more, I've been getting Rank S relatively frequently

Well there is if you consider you get a no kills bonus if you don't kill anyone. Fulton everyone seems to work quite well for some of the bases.

Not really, that mission only popped up for me some 40 hours in but I've had the sanctuary for a long long time now. It all depends on how many animals you have captures I think.

Well there is if you consider you get a no kills bonus if you don't kill anyone. Fulton everyone seems to work quite well for some of the bases.

It's not really a penalty though, and the score bonus is not that big, 5,000 for no kill and 10,000 for no kill and alert. So 15,000 in total. You can get S pretty easily going lethal. Time being the most important factor which you can cut down on quite a bit if you go lethal. Hell I think a panther playstyle (lethal but silent) would probably be the best way to get S.

Baldwin that is not how to do spoilers...you described cool/important stuff in a side op...

What? How the hell did I describe any of it? With Badass? and woooow? Get over yourself, I described absolutely nothing other than it being awesome. Anyone that reads the post simply knows that it's a great side op and that's it.

What am I spoiling exactly? The freaking title of the side op has his name in it. It's not a spoiler, hell it's a side op that I got at 13% in the game with 11 main missions completed but was doable even before that!

Yup. Great mission. The one right after it is good as well.

It's a confusing one but there is sort of a path to it. I think the biggest problem is getting on it from the start. I do it so that I first shoot the targets on top, then go to the nearest stairwell, shoot the targets there, then go back up and jump down to the platform where there's a target out of sight (so you have to drop there before you can shoot it). Then drop down on the air vents next to the big pipe and go from there. The mission is basically trying to get you to learn to travel the base by means other than stairs so most of the targets are near areas where you can see or go from a small catwalk or pipe or something. Also notice that after you fail you can go look for where the missed targets are.

I have one troublemaker (with crap stats) and can't dismiss him, any idea why that is? For now I just sat him in the waiting room.

I'm wondering if I can just throw him off mother base or run him over with a jeep or something.

Rude reply, and to answer your question, the fact that
Huey is alive and there is a mission to get him
might be something that people don't want to find out until they get the mission.

The Bionic arm's attract function is pretty much useless, enemies need to be less than 10m away for it to work, that's too close and I'd rather just go to them instead. The magazine throw distraction also needs to be very close for it to work.

For starters it's a side ops mission
that turns into a long story heavy mission
, that was a surprise for me. It is unique due to that.

Oh wow just had a great moment. Played two straight hours of side ops with my custom playlist running in the backgroud and JUST after I called in the Chopper for extraction this starts to play.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngw1jEdo3fU

Perfect coincidence as it is the only ED I have in my custom playlist.

Also: "When September Ends" by Green Day is a GREAT fit for MGS V.

Great attitude, just what I want to see in an OT

Which a bunch of people haven't watched, I'd imagine.

That's true. I think the development screen is OK, but I think far more options could go on the L1 radial menu. Eg chopper support commands, which could go along the bottom without issue. Or more buddy support commands eg (why isn't "Quiet (Scout)" or "Quiet (Attack)" on there? Would be fine if that was there and opened the iDroid automatically).

Also why isn't "Return to the ACC" on the iDroid menu? It's stupid that it's on the pause menu. It's a gameplay event, not a system event.

FYI I find it pretty useful/easy to just call in new camo under 'Supply drop' > 'Weapons/items' in the iDroid Missions menu.

When it's getting dark, I call in sneaking suit. When it's getting light, I call in desert camo (or animal camo if in second map). Even within an enemy base it's usually quite easy to find a corner where you can get a drop.

Yea it's great, one of the things i love to do at the moment is placing traps all over the base while im completing my objective to keep the guards occupied. Phenomenal idea. I always plant C4 around the base but don't want to cause alerts/raise alert status.

It's probably a worthwhile trade-off to keep the guards distracted.

When it comes to fulton extractions, 90% chance seems to mean about 50%, and 70% means about 25%. I failed three 70% fultons in a row.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Is it possible to disable the "Enemy presence detected. The map has been updated." notification? It's so frequent that it's getting annoying. If there is a setting for that I am not seeing it.

Which a bunch of people haven't watched, I'd imagine.

Still, I think not tagging characters that have been in pre release videos are ok. That'd be like mentioning Ocelot or Kaz are in the game to someone who hasn't seen any pre release material...I don't think you'd consider that spoilery now would you? We always knew he was alive and only died later from a suicide when his son had an affair with his wife. That would obviously happen much later because his son would be too young for that now.

Then you can say that it's spoilery for people who haven't played the other games and we could keep going on and on :p

The details on that mission though that's spoilery.

This game gets pretty hard when you get to Africa. The first mission there was probably my most intense yet. I don't know if it's because all my enemies are essentially B ranks now but the line of sight for guards jumped through the roof even at night.

Maybe so. Some people are so sensitive to spoilers that I aim to tag anything I could ever imagine could be spoilery to someone for the first days to weeks of the OT.

Hell, I'm super sensitive to spoilers, part of the reason why I do it, I guess.

Baldwin.

A) It doesn't matter whether you spoil something from the first 2 hours of the game, or the first 20.

I played that mission after 20 hours. If I was on hour 15 and I read your post, you would have spoiled an important mission, and important character's presence/situation for me. 13% isn't saying much when it's a long game with very sporadic story elements.

B) This is a spoiler-free thread. Any time you mention a story-related character who isn't a cover-character, we should be spoiler-tagging. I've been bad by wantonly talking about Quiet's presence and abilities so much.

C) People who can't even play the game yet/have been on media blackout may occasionally pop into this thread, and if they see posts like yours, you may ruin things for them.

Have a bit of empathy. It takes nothing to spoiler-tag.

On mission 4 so far... this game is fucking amazing. Everything I've wanted out of a stealth game. If the quality of gameplay continues I'd go so far to say it might top Chaos Theory.

Yea but overdoing it is annoying too.
Like someone was complaining that naming a gun was spoilery...what the shit?

Is there a way to jump in the chopper via air pick up during side ops and have it take you to another landing zone without going back to the ACC? If there is, how?

You do have to be close, but I have used it a lot and found it very helpful. It great for luring guards into buildings.

I know that, I also know that I had not given any hint about it either. I would have even put in spoilers the fact that
it turns into a mission as whole instead of leaving "turns into"
if I were you to be honest. I'm very aware of what I write, and only those who did it already knows what my message stands for because they completed it. Those who did not had nothing to expect other than it being awesome.

Come on. He mentioned none of the details pertaining to the mission other than it's awesome and long. If people are on media blackout to the point where they don't want to know basic characters in the game then they should probably be playing the game instead. This is ridiculous.

It is possible actually. In the little village they pass through there's a mortar that's pretty well placed. I neutralized the guards and then proceeded to blow the shit out of the tanks with the mortar when they came around the corner. I'd already died several times on previous attempts when trying to use my rocket launcher and armored vehicle, so it was pretty satisfying.
