The final level for R&D platform requires 50k of fuel and common metal.

How the fuck am I supposed to get that.
Red fuel containers have 7500 unprocessed fuel in them and are scattered all over the map (specifically at the
Mine, Afghan Military Base, Oilfield, Airport)
. Shouldn't be a problem

Had my first awesome, random Metal Gear moment. This was an early story mission of extracting a prisoner. Really long one where you have to go through a few outposts to reach it going up a mountain road. I've basically made it really well so far. Started getting a little impatient at the end getting spotted (no alerts though). Finally reach the prisoner who I have to fulton out. The prisoner isn't out in the wide open so I have to backtrack a bit. Right as I get to him a sandstorm hits. The feeling of just being able to sprint full speed with the prisoner over my shoulder to get out of there was so satisfying. Then hearing them over the radio that the prisoner is gone. The stealth in this game is so good. I can't get over it. Definitely my game of the year so far.

I've already gotten a bunch of really well-timed sandstorms and I've only finished the first 8 story missions. It feels like the game knows when you need them the most.

Honestly I just wish you could call your chopper to move you to another drop zone with out having to return to the ACC

You can do this on Mother Base and it's glorious.

I think the problem is that the hostile zone AI is smart enough to see the chopper and call reinforcements. You'd be constantly raising the region's awareness level when you use it. They'd have to compromise the simulation to allow for the chopper to fly from base to base in the hostile zones.

Do they utilize the injury thing later in the game? I haven't experienced it yet outside of the prologue.
Although I normally play as stealthy as possible, but even when things go wrong I haven't seen it.

It can happen at any point in the game, yeah. In my experience, though, usually by the time you're 'critically injured' you're probably going to get hit again within a moment and die anyway. I think they should have made the damage counter for it slightly lower so that it happens more often. It's a nice little mechanic, especially when you have to re-set broken limbs.

THIS GAME IS SO GOOD!

Im only at the 4th mission and the gameplay and different way to approach the objective is just flawless.

I might get the Strat guide for this game, as someone that played Peace walker, and really enjoyed the Mother Base management, MGSV M.B. feels more complex to manage.

Marvel

could never
lol, Kojima you sneaky fuck main mission completion do not click
made me think I completed the game! onwards to chapter 2

I'm really on the fence about getting this. I like the MGS series, but I'm feeling open world fatigue. Is it possible/rewarding to just primarily play through the story missions, or am I going to reach a point where I'm underleveled or something? I'm OK with a bit of side stuff, but I don't want to have to do a lot of non essential missions.

Thanks!

Well the majority of the game feels like non essential missions, but its not really an "open world game".
The open world is really just there, so the gameplay can be fantastic

Probably been asked a million times but can i disable Tanks and APC's somehow? I need to capture some but they are all occupied by enemies.

Holy shit
Episode 12 was absolutely ridiculous! I never imagined they would be so daring to have the new Metal Gear actually chase you in-game and you'd have to run to your LZ. It was tense as hell! And it was even pretty difficult to get to Huey in the first place as well, I checkpointed a lot lol. Suffice to say, I got a C rank but idc the mission was fucking awesome because of that ending to it. Good lord.

It was so close that when I got to my chopper, Metal Gear's (I'd say its name but I keep forgetting and I'm too lazy to type it out) sensor bomb thing was RIGHT NEXT TO the chopper so I rushed in and got out of there ASAP lol

Just crazy and I'm still only 15% complete atm.

Not gonna lie, I almost don't want to play this game too much.

Every time I boot up and start absolutely loving it(favorite MGS gameplay wise by far) I get the depressing feeling that once this is done, that is it. Hideo is out, Konami is nothing but trash and who knows how or when I will ever play something like this again.

I really thought MGS would struggle to even put in my top 3 this year(possibly even top 5) and here I am already considering it one of the best this gen. If not the best.

My R&D is maxed out now, dunno what to work on nect platform wise.

Could you pre-empt the spoiler-tag in your other post above, btw? Aint no hint of what stage in the game it's from, I clicked on it and immediately had to look away. It could have been the (big optional secret spoiler)
hidden Paz thing
or anything like that

Ran into a silly bug last night where a Guard A, that I tranq'd, was seen sleeping by a Guard B. Guard B started sauntering down a path to Guard A's body and line of sight was cut in the process, so I grabbed Guard A's body and hid him around another corner. Guard B reached his destination, kicked empty air, and Guard A (like 15 feet away) started waking up behind me.

I both chuckled and panicked.

I need help in Episode 17(I think)
how the hell do I get all the kids out. Do I have to extract one at a time by helicopter?

Okay, I haven't touched this game for two days. I guess it is not the Metal Gear I wanted. I'm a huge fan of the franchise but the lack of story focus is really bothering me. The gameplay is just so tight and smooth, that I will complete it, because it is actually fun to play.

I think I'm gonna play it for hours in one sitting, staying up all night to get it over with. Don't have anything to do in the weekend anyway.

Brilliant mission, isn't it. It was even more immersive for me because I had my total game-face on and I properly Shadow Moses'd my way
into that base without being spotted once, then that shit goes down and I was like 'FUCKING PEG IT'.

Yeah after spending most of the game going Rambo style I went full on stealth in episode 12 and it felt so good.

How far did you get? I'm in the mid-teens mission wise and if you just mainline the story missions, there are some great proper MGS moments in there.

the level design is god-tier. I've never seen anything like it

Haha, that is a real oversight! It's not often you find a crack in Kojima's design logic.

I swear the russian soldiers in the game are farsighted.

They can see me across the base at night but can't see me crouching 20 feet away while pointing a flashlight at me. There are times when I run pass one during a sandstorm while others where they just spot me running uphill towards a guard post with my head barely sticking out.

I'm only 4% in but I'm hanging in there. I just hope to get some proper MGS cutscenes, and yet, it feels all wrong that Big Boss is mute.

Endgame content spoilers:

It wouldn't be so bad if the missions they give you to replay with handicaps weren't among the least enjoyable in the game. C2W is fine, but Back Up, Back Down; Traitors Caravan and Metallic Archaea? They were bad enough originally! It's just as well you can make some progress via side ops, but still it seems really unnecessary padding.

Shit seriously man, keep going for it. Before episode 15 alone there are 3 proper classic-MGS style missions which are totally brilliant.

Edit: and when he does talk it's usually great

edit edit: plus, listen to the cassettes and pretend they're codec conversations. They're all really good so far and definitely scratch that itch

could someone vaguely explain the second half stuff?

having a hard time understanding if you HAVE to replay main missions, or you can do side ops, or you need some amount of resources to unlock the ending or what?

Eh, the story in this series has taken a huge nosedive. 1 and 3 were good but 2 and 4 were awful and this one, so far, seems to be in between the two sides. I am actually happy there aren't 30 minute cut scenes, extensive codec chats and hours of plodding monologues and unnecessarily long exposition at every turn(granted I'm less then 5% in). Its still there, but thankfully a lot of it is on cassettes now and I can just turn it on and keep going.

I really like how this game is structured. I don't have much time to play games everyday compared to a few years ago. So , playing for an hour or two after coming back from work, finished 1 or 2 missions and done. Continue to the next day. I'm still on mission 10 now. Been doing lots of side mission though. Amazing game. ^_^

I do listen to the cassette tapes but I have a really hard time distinguishing Benedict Miller from Ocelot. The voice acting is inconsistent. But I'll keep going for sure. Having completed all the other Metal Gears, I can't skip this one.

Yea sure, it may have already been posted, but I haven't been in here once. And I will not return, until I beat the game. I went on a media blackout for the game 6 months before it released...I'm staying away from everything!

I love that dang arm.

Just waiting on FOB, gonna infiltrate and steel ur stuf

Not saying I'd want to lose a hand, but if fake hands worked as well as that thing does in the game, I wouldn't be mad.

Yeah when I saw you could do it on Mother Base I tried doing it on the field thinking "oh I probably just unlocked that option or something" but nope you cant.

I get that the chopper cant fly over because then they'd have to deal with the AI pointing and shooting but I figure it could at least work like the delivery zones and the box, where you ask for a new point then like big boss would close the door and you'd just get a small load screen and then you'd be arriving at your desired drop zone.

It does sort of reward this play style. Play any more than 2-3 hours and you get pretty knackered, though it's still fun.

The legacy of Peace Walker lives on.

Peace Walker is like the meta-Patriots of the actual series of videogames. An algorithm to manage your play time and eke out your experience and resources...

I totally disagree with you. The story only took a nose dive in Metal Gear Solid 4. Besides, the best story is in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Guess you and I are on the opposite spectrum of the Metal Gear fanbase.

Just completed mission 9 (was awful, just like 8) and i still haven't found
Quiet.

Ocelot also told me to come back to MB and Kaz contacted me there, telling me to
help Dr. Emmerich disert the soviet (a side mission appeared at the power plant after this conversation). DD is all grown up as well and ready for the field. Where the fuck is she?

Funny thing was I
visited that base before the mission and so I already destroyed both their anti-air radar and their radio communications. So I had a huge advantage going into it. But I did mess up a lot, unfortunately, it still felt SO good though especially when you escape with the Walker Mech and there's some soldiers left you need to sneak past.

Truly a surprising and crazy ass mission that I'll want to replay to get a better rank when I have better equipment and shit. The level design in this game has been AMAZING and I've not even played 25% of the game yet.

After all these years, I now think MGS2 is a master piece in mindfuckery.
Not what people were expecting after MGS1, but still. Amazing

People rate MGS3 so high because it was closer to MGS1, but I felt it way too linear

I wont even talk about MGS4.

Peace Walker was a fun game for the PSP
MGS V is the extension of that concept to eleven and it's extremely fun.

Thinking about how this game saves. Do I really have to use a different steam profile if I want to play from the start over again but not lose my higher progress save? If so that's so lame, I really hate when these new games don't just allow multiple save slots.

Haha, that is a real oversight! It's not often you find a crack in Kojima's design logic.

I've come across one really weird moment that didn't seem like it was intentional; one mission I went to the barracks area in Afghanistan to extract the prisoner and at some point I turned off the lights at the base.

The next mission I went back to the same area to get the Soviet commander and did a lot better than I did in the first mission and made it near the building without being spotted or arousing suspicion, but as soon as night hit suddenly the soldiers radio that someone turned the lights at the base off because no one turned them back on after the last mission and all the guards went on alert

I just had that med bay scene... Yeah
So the bomb was where I feared, that was pretty uncalled for and quite nasty, my wife happened to be here too, she didn't seem too impressed

A sandstorm came in and I just booked out in the walker. Dynamic Environments FTW

Pro tip: When you are in the chopper, if you move the camera slightly so Boss is facing you, you get the shortcut prompt for the cassette tapes.

Way faster than going in the menues.
