Metaphor: ReFantazio Demo is dropping today on Consoles and Steam at 9 AM/11AM PT

Guess I'll address my own complaint here

The reason this game still uses the P5 engine instead of UE is because it quite literally started development in 2016 after the completion of P5. Both P3R and SMTV actually began and finished development after this project begun and before it ended, which is why they were on UE because Atlus decided to switch to UE after Metaphor started. The Metaphor project will have taken a full 8 years from conception to release which is I guess kind of insane when you realize they just made Persona with more steps. It's quite literally "We have Persona at home in another world"

It's not the end of the world using the P5 engine, it's no excuse for the game looking technically so rough on a PS5, Royal was a port and didn't look that bad even on a PS4 Pro, so a game developed for PS5 has no business not having even an effective anti-aliasing solution.

What makes you think the game (that has been developed since 2016) releasing a couple of weeks later will be significantly different to the demo, which in itself is the beginning of the game?
I wouldnt say major major but because demos are pre release builds and day 1 patches are normal in the industry.

Even on normal it's pretty brutal
Hashino’s Persona games aren’t hard but he wants to he can make his game very difficult like he did with Nocturne and Catherine which even on Normal difficulty can push back pretty hard.

The sand worm was pretty hard. I emptied my revive items lol

Yeah even attack them in real time they will attack back so you need dodge and attack them again before you go to turn based so you can get that advantage.

I can see later dungeons gonna be brutal since you can’t heal up even on rest area, it’s gonna be all about resource management.

Sigh, the life sim shit makes absolutely no sense in a game like this

Why am I fucking around leveling 5 different social stats when I'm supposed to be saving the world and shit

I guess I should go back to SMTV:V if I'm not interested in doing life sim shit because that's the Atlus franchise for me if I just want to play a regular JRPG but this game seems like "Missed Opportunities: The Game" in terms of actually doing something innovative instead of just being the Starfield of Persona games

Holy shit, I’m playing on hard and the sand worms in the mines destroy me every time.
You should change the MC's Archetype as soon as you are given the opportunity because he's weak to Fire and multiple enemies use Fire in that dungeon and they oneshot him pretty often because Seeker Archetype has like no HP and folds like a piece of paper even from a non-Weakness hit. At least it's not Game Over if the MC dies like in SMT and Persona games

Is there anything u like abt this game? You’ve been hating on the game for u wanting it to be different when it’s been extremely obvious for a long time that this is Persona Fantasy

Finally decided to try the demo. I knew absolutely nothing about this game. I have watched no videos, and read nothing outside of most of the comments here.

Amazing game so far. It's just what I am looking for. The dialogue is good. The music is good (combat music especially fantastic). The combat is intriguing. I like how the player is given the lore. Graphics and performance are good on PS5.

My only complaint is that this is going to further delay my Trails through Daybreak play-through.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
God damn the demo for this game just keeps going. I have paid for games that were shorter than this demo. I wonder if being too generous with it will impact sales.
And the demo is just the prologue of the game.

Unicorn Overlord also release very generous demo before release and the game still sold well.

Also, it's fucking annoying that you need to go to the Akademeia every single time I want to change the party members' Personas Attack on Titans

That's not going to get really really old after 100 hours of this game
You can do this from the menu also. Where you set your skills.

You can change via the main menu at any time as well as the touchpad (where you see what combinations others have used).

Go in the menu and re-read the tutorials section. There are probably other things you have overlooked!

Dude, that shit doesn't happen anymore and hasn't for a long time. If a game has issues in a demo/preview it always has most of those same issues day 1...name some games that actually got a facelift at launch in the last 5 years?

Anyone else here grinding/farming the demo? Been running Goblin dungeon on repeat for the last few hours.

You're going to be spending well over 100+ hours in the full game if you want to see and do everything, take it easy and don't get full on the appetizer when the main course is on it's way.

I’m just bored I guess. Got everyone in the party to Master on atleast one Archetype. Farmed 31x Hero Leafs since then. Not going too hard on it I think. Might dabble some more before release and get up to 50 leafs to make leveling Archetypes easier when Bonds are strengthened and the Archetype tree opens up.

Aside from Persona I don’t play any JRPGs anymore, but I’ll give it a whirl and see what the fuss is all about.

6 more days lol.

I'm probably not starting this until beating SH2, which itself could be by the 20th or so.

And then Ys Nordics comes just a few more days after that, and then Life is Strange, Dragon Age, Shitterhead etc etc.

This next 30 day window has so many fucking games I want to play, not sure when I will get the time.

I totally get you man. I'll be taking a break to play LiS: Double Exposure, but other than that, I think I'll only be playing Metaphor. Oh, and I'd like to play SH2 as well, but I'm waiting to get my hands on the PS5 Pro first since I hope it will improve the performance and maybe even the image quality a fair bit. I'll probably play Ys Nordics over the holidays, and for Dragon Age, I'll be playing it sometime next year.

Tried the demo today, it’s fun, the finish voices are pretty good too. It’s kind of weird that the protagonist actually has a voice but I’m digging it.

What did everyone name the MC? I named mine Aphor, a play on the game title.

PC bros, went to check the Special K fix thread on the Steam forum page and apparently Atlus has already fixed the issues and the patch is no longer needed.

Canon name seems to be Will, so I'll most probably go with that.

Specially since my actual name, if translated to english, is also Will.

Did they update the demo?

Allegedly so, yeah. I'll give it a try and report back, just for u.

RoboFu RoboFu tried it and yes, they seem to have improved the performance quite a bit and the game now runs even better than when I tried it with the Special K fix.

Also noticed that the game no longer puts the resolution scale to 200% when changing the overall graphic settings, which is nice.

I've almost exclusively played JRPGs for the past six months and I am seriously wondering if I think this game is better than Trails through Daybreak. It's that good. The dialogue and plot is more well written for sure.

I guess time will tell if it holds up throughout. At how long this demo seems, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't even finish by Friday.

Xavier. No idea why. Way back with Icewind Dale in 1999, my mage's name was Xavier and I often use it.

Idk what it is but I’m kinda not feeling this game. Too much exposition like persona 5.
I feel it has just the right amount. I actually feel like I am getting to know the characters. Quite the difference for me after playing through Pokémon Let's Go, Lords of the Fallen, and over 100 hours of Octopath Traveler. I'm thankful that the game isn't just constant gogogo. It's helps that the writing and voice acting is top notch.
