Metroid: Samus Returns Impressions: "I didn't want to stop playing."

If a 2.5D remake that required C&D'ing a far more interesting fan remake of the same game on a system that should be having dirt shoveled on top of it's coffin is Nintendo's method to weigh fan interest I'm not going to get in the way of them sticking a thumb on the scale.

Maybe it turns out great. I'll be dubious up it actually releases.

AM2R would've been C&Ded regardless.

:D
It just kind of makes me happy when people get a chance to shed negative avatars hahah. Finally getting what they've hoped for.
(As for why I asked, "Too soon," I know some may consider MSR to be just a remake of an existing game, therefore meaning the series still isn't alive until MP4)

Now you can't say I didn't. And this fits the old one more.

Have to wonder if the guy who got C&D'd was told that this was why when he was.

Any news about whether or not there will be performance differences for regular 3DS and the New 3DS? (Aside from a much more stable 3D experience on the latter.)

Honestly, press impressions do nothing for me unless I can see their thoughts on past games, because this could very well be a good game without necessarily being a good Metroid, though I guess positive impressions are always a good sign.

I was got immediately worried when I heard of MS' involvement too. I think LoS was decent to bad and Mirrors was simply bad, but it's true that Nintendo can make magic happen when supervising devs with spotty trajectories. Plus the game looks awesome from what I've seen, kind of like what I thought Other M would be like, except 2D.

30fps is disappointing too but eh, I'll take what I can.

So yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic, and 100% getting this day 0.

I doubt it, Nintendo wouldn't want him to accidentally spill the beans.

However, I do think that the interest Nintendo saw with AM2R helped to keep the project going, especially if the game had development issues.

Why the fuck is this not coming out on switch?

A lot of folks ditched their 3ds for the switch (myself included), and we don't get a fucking 2d Metroid?

They are really trying to make me buy a 3ds for like the 3rd time huh.

Nobody told you to get rid of your 3DS, that one's on you.

I'm honestly curious as to how well this thing is gonna do.

Even if it plays well, the 3ds is on the way out - between that and the fact that Metroid isn't among Nintendo's best sellers, as well as the fact that it's a remaster/remake of an older game isn't going to do it a whole lot of favors.

Even if it ends up just OK (which it doesn't seem like at all based on gameplay footage), this is a step in the right direction. Supporting it will only show there is interest, and encourage Ninty to commission more 2D Metroids. Followups to Samus Returns could only fix whatever hypothetical mistakes MercurySteam makes with this game.

I'll buy it, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm bummed I can't play this on Switch instead.

This is what worries me, I put my 3DS to rest months before the Switch launch. The world is begging for Switch games and Nintendo keeps cock blocking their new system with awesome 3DS games, they could at least make simultaneous releases so people who already uphraded can enjoy all these games on Switch.

I played AM2R and i would still recommend this fantastic game to everyone that loves the Metroid franchise to play it sometime. But imo after watching the treehouse gameplay the Nintendo official one simply looks better gameplay wise, i really like some of the added mechanics.

I wonder tho if Nintendo also added in extra areas gonna lol if they are the extra ones from AM2R:P but i think it will be simular to Zero Mission like 1 new area/sequence and a boss or so.

Not interested in playing a 2D Metroid game that runs at only 30 fps. Sorry Mercury Steam.

Or you could buy the game, indicating that you want 2D Metroid, but give feedback that you want the next entry to be 60 FPS? Like it or not, the success of this and Prime 4 will determine the future of the franchise, or if it continues to exist at all. Better to ensure that happens so the next entry will be the one you really want.

Basically this.

Neogaf: we want a 2d metriod!

Nintendo announced 2d metroid.

Neogaf: fuck that.

Never change.

This is why you don't ditch systems whenever you get a new one.

I was a little skeptical after seeing the trailer, but the Treehouse gameplay convinces me that this is still classic Metroid gameplay with a few new tweaks. I think it looks great.

Edited to add that I think Samus' character model and the animation are a breath of fresh air after so many 3DS games went the Chibi/big head route.

While I agree that the poster you quoted is being petty for refusing to buy a sidescroller because it's not 60 FPS. Who cares what they do and don't buy for whatever reason? If someone doesn't want to buy a game, just let them.

They should have released it on Switch as well so all I have to do to get my Metroid fix is through one system and not buying two Nintendo thingies.

Sucks because I far prefer 2D Metroid but I don't want to buy the 3DS for only one game. Whereas buying a Switch there is a lot more to offer.

Fine. But then don't complain that X game isn't being made.

As much as I'd hate going back to the 3ds, I'll make an exception for this game. It looked fantastic in the stream. 2d metroid. Sniff. I never thought the day would come.

I'm 100% down for a Melee that can act as a Parry. Other than (ha) Other M, past Metroid games haven't had Melee moves, which this game seems to be directly taking. And that's fine! Other M's Melee animations were the best part of that game.

I'm rather happy I'll be able to play a Metroid game this year. That alone is a treat after many long years without Metroid in itself and sorry Federation Force doesn't count.

Pre-ordered it.

I don't play my 3DS anymore since the Switch came out, but I'll be more than happy to dust it out once this comes out, can't say no to Metroid and I gotta put my money where my mouth is.
