is this where you post the collection of images showing punished snake is really decoy octopus
That's just where I point out that we have Miller asking "what about him?" about an unseen third wounded person (who is also "the camera" during that scene), and that this is followed by Punished Snake (who is "the camera" at that point) waking up in a hospital and talking with a mysterious "Ishmael" guy who does and says a lot of odd things that might indicate he's some kind of Tyler Durden-like hallucination (has the same voice actor as Punished Snake, doesn't offer any much needed physical help, points to Punished Snake when asked who he is, hesitates between using the words "I" and "we", seems to disappear after a car crash during the escape from the hospital (I half-expect Kojima to proudly point out how Snake was in the driver's seat all along and then candidly go "Fight Club? what's that?")).
As much as I agree about many previous theories being downright inane, there really are reasons to suspect some kind of weird twist/switcheroo there...

I also think it's quite likely Decoy Octopus will be at least referenced in an oblique way, considering we already have Eli (extremely likely to be a young Liquid Snake), Ocelot (aka Revolver Ocelot), a female sniper (like Sniper Wolf), a Native American shaman (like Vulcan Raven) and a floating gasmask-wearing child (possibly a young Psycho Mantis). Maybe Skull Face will fill that spot, maybe it will be something else.

You know what I just realized, this scene from the MGSV trailer isn't present in GZ, I guess he cut it or chose to show Snake looking out at a different angle.

Imagine TPP releases and has the "directors cut" of ground zeroes in the beginning?
Complete with new scenes.

But he still intended to kill him, even after Paz talked.

"Will this save Big Boss?"

"It may."

What I gather from that is that he was definitely going to try to kill Big Boss for Zero to come out of hiding, but he "may" spare him if Paz tells Skullface where Zero is.

Then I look at the Bombs inside of Paz, they were aimed at killing Big Boss. Skullface wanted Paz to choose whether or not Big Boss dies, cause he's sick.

I doubt you will be able to create a character. Kojima wouldn't introduce a character that you create that is involved in the story. I assume you will be able to customize a soldier like in Peace Walker or MGO, but I wouldn't bet on customizing faces. Plus, arent most people in the game based off of real people?

Well, that's the point. We won't see our character's face during cutscenes because it's all in first person. I don't expect the character to actively participate in story sequences or even have a voice over. Just observe and follow along for the most part. I could also see him being interrogated along with Huey and the others by Kaz and Ocelot at some point while they're trying to figure out who the spy is. That would fill the void for the obligatory torture endurance minigame that's become a staple of MGS rather nicely.

But there's a tape after that, which indicates that Skull Face intends to see Big Boss dead. The tape you mentioned takes place before the tape I'm talking about.

Yeah, that is why I doubt that is going to happen. Kojima is trying to create a cinematic experience, which means no audience participation. Plus, I wouldn't want to have to stop the game just to create a character. Maybe side-ops or extra-ops you will play as other characters, if Peace walker is anything to go by, but being involved in the story is something I am highly doubtful of.

come on guys........I know Raiden was traumatizing for some people but....come on.......

I just realized BB doesn't wear his bandana on GZ, but he does on MGS3 and PW. I wonder why. (I didn't notice before because they changed the entire character model)

Yeah there is a pretty heartfelt moment in PW related to why he stops wearing the bandanna. I'm glad Kojima stuck with the look.

What are you talking about? I loved Raiden! And this has nothing to do with anyone taking the place of Snake. He will still be the main character and the one that we control for the majority of the game and definitely for the story heavy parts. But there is a third survivor in the hospital with Snake and Kaz and this is just something that I believe could be a possibility.

I thought Kojima addressed the "third person theory"? That Kaz was referring to you the player during the hospital scene. Or maybe he said that it was actually himself.

Yes, but I'm wondering how that fits into the context of the game world. Did he mean it figuratively, or is there an actual representation of ourselves within the game? With Kojima's tendency to break the fourth wall, I don't know. I just find it fun to speculate about these things in anticipation of the game.

Just finished the main mission

It's weird that they make an effort to hide the medic's face in every single shot

Maybe he's the 3rd guy in the hospital Miller asks about?

What do you guys think?

They probably just didn't want to do facial mocap for that guy. EDIT: or imply he's a significant character for that matter, keeping the focus on everyone else.

It's really odd, even when Kaz pushes him away, the medic has his face completely turned in the opposite direction.

I don't know, Kojima praised how easy it is to implement mocap now thanks to the new engine and then he decides to not use it on the medic?

Yeah he's always in an awkward position or angle

just heard some of the tapes, not all of them, so Cipher is really just an intelligence agency, don't have military power and he wants Big Boss PMC to be Cipher's military division but Big Boss refused.

so presumably, XOF is the new military branch of Cipher isn't it?

What I find interesting about Huey is the fact that he's Otacon's dad so at some point he's gotta go back home, get married (again?), have his son sleep with his stepmother, and the kill himself all the while never mentioning that he's the one who actually built the very first Metal Gear and personally knowing Big Boss whose "son" will later become Otacon's best friend.

This is what happens when people write prequels in increasingly convoluted canon while constantly trying to link shit together.

Yes, Kaz admits at the end of PW that he knew who Paz and Zadornov really were and that he knew about Zero. He was using them to expand MSF which he sees as the business of the future. However, he seems absolutely loyal to Big Boss the question is why does he ultimately turn on BB as per his appearance in MG2 and MGS1 (kinda) if he really ever turned at all. Afterall, Kaz is usually the one advocating the most extreme measures to BB and took glee with the idea of getting Paz back to ring some information out of her by any means necessary, so it kinda seems odd he would later perceive BB as a monster.

My theory is that it will be explained that he only pretended to defect from BB and was always working for him secretly. Or an even crazier theory? The bandaged guy from the trailers is actually a Miller doppelganger, as opposed to a BB one as others have theorized.

There's a
secret Kaz tape at the end of PW after you do a whole bunch of extra stuff. I never got it though.

Looking at the timeline of MGS now.. I'll get slammed for this but I think Kojima needs to revisit the story for MGS1 in the future, possibly in another remake.
Some things just don't make sense anymore, killing off Miller in one line of dialogue for example.

I don't see why it doesn't make sense. Miller was a tertiary character, his being expendable in such a way made the twist. I don't think revisiting mgs1 would really change that unless maybe we got a game where we play as liquid. I think a game centered on Liquid during his time in the SAS leading up to Metal Gear Solid might be interesting.

Yeah, I know about that tape however it seems to be recorded before the final battle with ZEKE and PAZ. In the secret tape he speaks with who is presumably Zero and informs him of BB's progress and the expansion of MSF, he also asks about the clones, in the end he mentions to Zero he is not an ally or enemy, he's in it strictly for the business. Which is what he admits to BB in the final ending of PW that he used Zero to expand MSF which he sees as a valuable business in the future.

He said it was actually himself. And I don't buy it. The moment when Big Boss falls into a coma doesn't quite sound like the best time for a funny "let's break the 4th wall! Kojima's in the room!". That's a bit like having Sasaki take a shit in the bushes in the foreground just as Snake salutes his dead mentor's grave. I know Kojima makes weird decisions, but that's a bit too much even for him.

Do you have the source on that? I take that kind of comment from Kojima as him being goofy and saying he's a cameraman or some other kind of meta commentary while the in-game character isn't actually him.

Here at 5:36.
I think he was lying/evading the question in order not to give anything away (guess he underestimated the fans when he put that trailer together).

Skullface is trying to find and kill Zero, so probably not. I mean he also wants to kill Big Boss and dismantle his organization because revenge.

Yeah I do not buy it, there is no way that the scene would play out like that in the game with just a weird 4th wall break. I wonder if the guy is the surgeon? Maybe there is a reason we do not see his face in Ground Zeroes.

So any idea why the timeline at the end goes all the way until 2008? I kind of missed it, does it reference only real world events, or also MGS stuff?

I said something similar a few pages back. I think the medic is the third dude.

Anyone else get a laugh out the part in the Deja Vu mission where you look for the different game logos, and Kaz says "doesn't look that important" when you find the metal gear rising one? :p

I can't believe that ending. Wow. That was insane. Man...now into the missions. So is that final mission unlocked after completing the other missions?

How do you unlock Deja Vu mission?

Also, does anyone have a close look of the medic? Screenshot perhaps?

Find all the XOF patches (you have to do it during the main Ground Zeroes mission).

One of them was insanely hard for me to find, and then when I found it my mind was blown >_>

you're reading into it too much. it's probably chico... or perhaps its decoy octopus disguised as grey fox (who is having plastic surgery and brain washing) into thinking hes big boss?!

Got a perfect score on that MGS1 quiz. Felt good. I'd have felt bad if I didn't considering how many iterations of that story I've gone through (MGS1, MGS2 Natasha Romanenko recap, Twin Snakes, Digital Graphic Novel..... I didn't read the book novel though!)

Finished the game, enjoyed it. Glad its 60fps on next gen consoles.

So where do I get all the extra tapes? Thats from the main mission? I still have to find one lol. And people are telling Chico was forced to have sex with Paz? Wtf... well the game has some pretty fucked up moments. But yes, in a military prison I guess some very twisted things would happen like rape and all kinds of torture.
