Told to bet the house on it. The proposed remedies are hilarious too, EC is a joke.
It's a back-and-forth process, any proposed remedies at any stage of this process are something that attempts to address what MS has been told by regulators. They can. In this case it seems they just went with what was proposed.
This means if you buy the game you can't be blocked from streaming on something like geforce now right? So nvidia doesn't need a license in this example. For this to work on consoles are consoles going to have to let you use your library of games on streaming services similarly to how your steam account is used for geforce now?![]()
This doesn't negate the CMA's decision so.....
Talking about the cloud investigation headline. They didn't mention what the investigation was about.Microsoft's Xbox business would never be associated with clickbait on Bloomberg, this is a business that is currently tolerated at best by investors.
That's what I'm saying dude. No Bloomberg reader would see "Microsoft Cloud" in a bad headline and think it's anything to do with Xbox.Talking about the cloud investigation headline. They didn't mention what the investigation was about.
Essentially - it appears they're just calling out for MS to enable ability for "free" license all games across all (competing) cloud providers ... wasn't sure if this was a proposed remedy of the CMA findings? Now let's see what those remedies consist of.
So far the markets response is muted.
not forever, if this is past 10 years its pretty brutal for them tbhI think MS was fine with the free cloud license, as long as they kept 100% of the microtransactions. Wasn't that the deal they had with all these providers already?
EC just accepted the remedies that Microsoft proposed. What if MS doesn't accept those remedies?
Free license for ATK games on psnow seems to be the opposite of what they want.
if we're reading the remedies correctly - it's pretty brutal for MS in terms of market growth and revenue with something like free license use.....
Is there a timeframe for this? is is unlimited? it really hinders MS's cloud growth with this remedy
- A free license to consumers in the EEA that would allow them to stream, via any cloud game streaming services of their choice, all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games for which they have a license.
- A corresponding free license to cloud game streaming service providers to allow EEA-based gamers to stream any Activision Blizzard's PC and console games.
it would be great to get more detail on this
Have they?not forever, if this is past 10 years its pretty brutal for them tbh
the proposed remedy they gave out were those contracts they gave everyone.....i don't think they expected it to last forever like the EU commission seems to have pushed
yep, they were, that may have been different to the other deals with other providers but they also only planned for 10 yearsA free license?
Wasn’t MS trying to force Sony to pay absurd amounts for the cloud license of their games?
I think we have to wait for more details, not sure at this pointHave they?
To me it seems like EC simply accepted Microsoft's proposed remedies? Or did they change anything?

Limited to 10 years thoI thought it was the regulators that defined remedies.
No. That was for putting cod day 1 on psplus.A free license?

Why does it only include ABK games, and not all Xbox games like Microsoft proposed?if we're reading the remedies correctly - it's pretty brutal for MS in terms of market growth and revenue with something like free license use.....

Don't think I said that first part. That's what I'm saying dude. No Bloomberg reader would see "Microsoft Cloud" in a bad headline and think it's anything to do with Xbox.
That reader's mind is 1st and foremost concerned with Azure as its the backbone of the company currently.
not what it means, you know how nvidia can't stream cod at the moment even if you own a copy on steam because acti wont let them. This means nvidia dooesn't need permission from them because you own a license.A free license?
Wasn’t MS trying to force Sony to pay absurd amounts for the cloud license of their games?
No. That was for putting cod day 1 on psplus.
yes, it transpired that the price for having it as a psplus subscription was too high. I don't think anything has changed because now to stream it on any cloud service you have to buy it first, while those who have the gamepass will have it anyway.A free license?
Wasn’t MS trying to force Sony to pay absurd amounts for the cloud license of their games?
People like us do, but you gotta remember that we are in a forum that discusses Playstation and Xbox, not AWS and Azure.I do think some people would read the headline and think it was about something bigger than one specific concern around Azure and "mis-using confidential commercial" documents.
Ah - so there is a time limit.. even more interesting..“
The proposed remedies
To address the competition concerns identified by the Commission in the market for the distribution of PC and console games via cloud game streaming services, Microsoft offered the following comprehensive licensing commitments, with a 10-year duration:
“
- A free license to consumers in the EEAthat would allow them to stream, via any cloud game streaming services of their choice, all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games for which they have a license.
- A corresponding free license to cloud game streaming service providers to allow EEA-based gamers to stream any Activision Blizzard's PC and console games.
Wow so basically they just ate whatever MS fed them, it’s hilarious.
I am wondering if I am the only one reading the following in the remedy
"If you buy the console game on Sony platforms, Sony would be able to stream the game to you"
Sony could obviously make it free of charge or not.
yea, it seems to have a time limit - I wonder how the market will look by then where the EC will look back and say "we did good" or "we fucked up"Ah - so there is a time limit.. even more interesting..
And 100% of that game sales money will go to Microsoft. That's how it will be everywhere based on how I'm reading it. If you own a copy of an activision title you will be free to stream it via any cloud streaming provider of your choosing.
I'm lost. What's the latest? Deal went through all the sudden? It hasn't? Somewhere in between?
As the CMA still rejects it, it is game over if judicial review to CAT fails. This hasn't changed the situation.I'm lost. What's the latest? Deal went through all the sudden? It hasn't? Somewhere in between?
It needs CMA and ftc approval plus china regulators have to approve it.I'm lost. What's the latest? Deal went through all the sudden? It hasn't? Somewhere in between?

I'm lost. What's the latest? Deal went through all the sudden? It hasn't? Somewhere in between?
This is why if an appeal to CAT is successful, CMA will still ask for divestiture. And 100% of that game sales money will go to Microsoft.
The CMA came to the right conclusion that Microsoft is just making everyone their customer -- it's the opposite of encouraging competition.
This is just saying if you own the game(the license) you also own the right to play it via streaming if you own it on a service that offers game streaming. And that MS can't charge for the right to stream a game in addition to charging you to buy it.This means if you buy the game you can't be blocked from streaming on something like geforce now right? So nvidia doesn't need a license in this example. For this to work on consoles are consoles going to have to let you use your library of games on streaming services similarly to how your steam account is used for geforce now?
edit: to people thinking this means microsoft has to give free access to cod on competing streaming services I don't think it does, it means if you buy cod on psn you could use it on ps now or whatever tier that is because you already own a license.
Hopefully not another 400 pagesNote for later but will be good to keep an eye on the following to see the full document

It's all very likely to go to court now that the EU have given Microsoft some much needed ammunition.
Hopefully not another 400 pages![]()
CMA has to fight them. If they lose, we lose all of us.It's now in a state of limbo.
Options market is now back to pricing the chances of the deal going through at 50/50.
It's all very likely to go to court now that the EU have given Microsoft some much needed ammunition.
Lol at people in the thread saying MS bought this EU decision![]()
But at this point, it looks the deal will be passed
