This doesn't negate the CMA's decision so.....
This means if you buy the game you can't be blocked from streaming on something like geforce now right? So nvidia doesn't need a license in this example. For this to work on consoles are consoles going to have to let you use your library of games on streaming services similarly to how your steam account is used for geforce now?

edit: to people thinking this means microsoft has to give free access to cod on competing streaming services I don't think it does, it means if you buy cod on psn you could use it on ps now or whatever tier that is because you already own a license.

Microsoft's Xbox business would never be associated with clickbait on Bloomberg, this is a business that is currently tolerated at best by investors.
Talking about the cloud investigation headline. They didn't mention what the investigation was about.

That's what I'm saying dude. No Bloomberg reader would see "Microsoft Cloud" in a bad headline and think it's anything to do with Xbox.

That reader's mind is 1st and foremost concerned with Azure as its the backbone of the company currently.

Now let's see what those remedies consist of.

So far the markets response is muted.
Essentially - it appears they're just calling out for MS to enable ability for "free" license all games across all (competing) cloud providers ... wasn't sure if this was a proposed remedy of the CMA findings?

I think MS was fine with the free cloud license, as long as they kept 100% of the microtransactions. Wasn't that the deal they had with all these providers already?
not forever, if this is past 10 years its pretty brutal for them tbh

the proposed remedy they gave out were those contracts they gave everyone.....i don't think they expected it to last forever like the EU commission seems to have pushed

if we're reading the remedies correctly - it's pretty brutal for MS in terms of market growth and revenue with something like free license use.....
  • A free license to consumers in the EEA that would allow them to stream, via any cloud game streaming services of their choice, all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games for which they have a license.
  • A corresponding free license to cloud game streaming service providers to allow EEA-based gamers to stream any Activision Blizzard's PC and console games.
Is there a timeframe for this? is is unlimited? it really hinders MS's cloud growth with this remedy

it would be great to get more detail on this

A free license?

Wasn’t MS trying to force Sony to pay absurd amounts for the cloud license of their games?

you are free to stream what you own.. doesn't seem too bad to me, you still need to buy the game (or the license if you are a cloud provider), don't get why you guys says is bad for ms, you still have to buy your stuff if you want to stream it

Have they?

To me it seems like EC simply accepted Microsoft's proposed remedies? Or did they change anything?

yep, they were, that may have been different to the other deals with other providers but they also only planned for 10 years

I think we have to wait for more details, not sure at this point

EU claiming Microsoft taking Activision exclusive won’t have an impact on the console market is a shady way of saying that Microsoft is not a real player in the market.

Why does it only include ABK games, and not all Xbox games like Microsoft proposed?

The proposed remedies

To address the competition concerns identified by the Commission in the market for the distribution of PC and console games via cloud game streaming services, Microsoft offered the following comprehensive licensing commitments, with a 10-year duration:

  • A free license to consumers in the EEAthat would allow them to stream, via any cloud game streaming services of their choice, all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games for which they have a license.
  • A corresponding free license to cloud game streaming service providers to allow EEA-based gamers to stream any Activision Blizzard's PC and console games.

Wow so basically they just ate whatever MS fed them, it’s hilarious.

Don't think I said that first part.

I do think some people would read the headline and think it was about something bigger than one specific concern around Azure and "mis-using confidential commercial" documents.

not what it means, you know how nvidia can't stream cod at the moment even if you own a copy on steam because acti wont let them. This means nvidia dooesn't need permission from them because you own a license.

I am wondering if I am the only one reading the following in the remedy

"If you buy the console game on Sony platforms, Sony would be able to stream the game to you"

Sony could obviously make it free of charge or not.

yes, it transpired that the price for having it as a psplus subscription was too high. I don't think anything has changed because now to stream it on any cloud service you have to buy it first, while those who have the gamepass will have it anyway.

I don't think much has changed for sony, they were against cod on subscription model...?

People like us do, but you gotta remember that we are in a forum that discusses Playstation and Xbox, not AWS and Azure.

The way our minds process info is different from what a Bloomberg subscriber would, that publication is more geared for investors and stockbrokers.

That's how it will be everywhere based on how I'm reading it. If you own a copy of an activision title you will be free to stream it via any cloud streaming provider of your choosing.

And 100% of that game sales money will go to Microsoft.

The CMA came to the right conclusion that Microsoft is just making everyone their customer -- it's the opposite of encouraging competition.

I'm lost. What's the latest? Deal went through all the sudden? It hasn't? Somewhere in between?

It's now in a state of limbo.

Options market is now back to pricing the chances of the deal going through at 50/50.

It's all very likely to go to court now that the EU have given Microsoft some much needed ammunition.

This is why if an appeal to CAT is successful, CMA will still ask for divestiture.

MS will in spend years benefitting form these deals and pull it away after it's over.

This is just saying if you own the game(the license) you also own the right to play it via streaming if you own it on a service that offers game streaming. And that MS can't charge for the right to stream a game in addition to charging you to buy it.

So buy it on gforce and stream it on gforce for no additional money(to MS at least).

*I think*

CMA has to fight them. If they lose, we lose all of us.

But at this point, it looks the deal will be passed. The last thing you want to do, is give MS time to recoup their defense.

EU should have thrusted the weapon deep.

"These licenses will ensure that gamers that have purchased one or more Activision games on a PC or console store, or that have subscribed to a multi-game subscription service that includes Activision games, have the right to stream those games with any cloud game streaming service of their choice and play them on any device using any operating system. The remedies also ensure that Activision's games available for streaming will have the same quality and content as games available for traditional download. "

You sign up for Gamepass, you get it on PS Now... If Sony allows it obviously?
