Microsoft: Forza 5 runs at 60 fps, Xbox One has no fps/resolution requirements

It was confirmed to be "in-engine" which is devspeak for "rendered using our engine, but not necessarily running realtime on any hardware".

GT5 trailers are in-engine, as an example.

They specifically stated REALTIME in one of their tweets, four different sources not enough confirmation though, alright then continue the hate.

We should same the same to you, some Gamespot guy tweets it, so it is true? On what Earth are game "journalist" qualified to make technical analysis of unreleased games? If T10 said it I'd believe it, but Gamespot guy?

I always practice healthy skepticism.

John Wendel from Turn 10 says it in the video.

All I can say is fuck resolution scaling, native 1080p or bust....I'm 100% fine with locked choppy and jaggies......at least give me the option in settings or something.
I translated his post for y'all.
I completely disagree.

Resolution does matter, but I argue that texture, model, animation quality and shader effects matter much more than the resolution. Resolution is just one of many knobs developers can tune to help the IQ. Of course it would be great if all games could run at the native resolution of the TV they are running on, but that isn't always the case. That doesn't mean they are ugly games.

For example, The Last of Us is running at 720p, and I still think it looks like a beautiful game (don't have a PS3 so can't play it, but the videos of it look amazing).

720p looks horrendous. 1080p is good, but if you want a clean and lessjaggy image you gotta go to at least 1440p. 4xMSAA and Alan Wake in 1440p looks tons better than it does at 1080p.

1080p like GT5 1080p?

I kid I kid.

GT5 was 1080p. It just was not 1920x1080. 1080p is only the pixels on the Y axis.

Animation quality has absolutely 0 to do with "image quality" so...I don't think you disagree.

Are we talking about screenshots of games or the games being played and seen in motion?

Animation quality has a ton to do with how the game looks when you're playing it. It means jack shit if you're talking about a game looking great in a screenshot.

I still completely disagree with what you said that resolution was the main factor. What about my other points of texture quality, models and shaders (motion blur, etc)? Plus things like AA make a huge difference to IQ as well.

"We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p 60 frames per second"

Well, looks like we now got direct confirmation from Turn 10. 1080p/60fps.

Someone should update the OP.

So Gamespot are lying? Or are you trolling? It's hard to tell these days.

Can only utilize 6 out of 8 cores when playing games
Can only utilize 90% of the GPU power when playing games
Can only utilize 5 out of 8 GB RAM when playing games
eSRAM yield problems, downclocking GPU to 8-900 GFLOP's(?)

Nice, I was looking for a video with him in it and found nothing but old stuff. So he says it, no mincing words (other than if it is 1080P or GT5 1080P, but most won't notice the difference).

So Gamespot writer was repeating this guy, good to have the source and not some tweet from a know nothing.

And it still manages to run at 1080p and 60fps, aint that something

1080p in discussion is commonly used as shorthand for 1920x1080p; to say that GT5 runs in 1080p is nice semantics but not true in the common usage of the term.

Do you believe it will not be able to run 1920 1080? Current gen may have had sub res but I am pretty sure the step up in hardware will provide actual 1080p.

The term "in engine" needs to die a long overdue death. Pre rendered bullshit footage that has no relation to the game running on actual retail hardware should be consigned to the same garbage pile as Sony's E3 2005 trailers. What a console exclusive game looks like running on tri SLI Titan's at 1FPS is of no relevance to anybody.

Boom.

Excellent.

The preview footage was in-engine, rendered at .00060 FPS over the course of a few months by the infinite power of The Cloud, which is the name of our Cray supercomputer.

Eh, 1080p wouldn't suddenly make it not look like F4 in that case :P

Just like how we saw a lot of "PS2 games in HD" this generation (especially from Japan), just upping the res to 1080p will result in "PS3/X360 games in HD-er HD" look that will impress no one looking for a next-gen graphical leap.

It's going to be the lighting, effects, geometry, models, etc... that will make it looks different and those will still be there at 720p

Precisely, lighting, particles, textures and polycount is what make next gen games look next gen

watching the infiltrator demo in 720p as opposed to 1080p does not make it look any less next gen!

and for people saying hes down playing resolution, hes not hes simply saying a high resolution does not guarantee a pretty game, which is fact, which is why there not putting limits on the X1's res and fps count.

but the fact he is even bringing this up is questionable but not de facto.

I can understand why a lot of GAF are like ''We know high Rez games dont make em pretty, but why state the obvious ,Phil?, unless your triyng to tell us something''

Well he may be trying to tell us something, or maybe he saying the words at face value.

bickering about the issue is pointless and dumb

So 1080p at 60fps for Forza setting the bar right out the gate. I'm thinking solid 1080p 30fps should be reasonable for most other titles which would be fine by me. We shall see. I expect a some games under this of course.

Yea upscaled mhwahahaha.

I still say if they are going to talk about the level of detail like "orange peel" in the paint texture... maybe the car should be getting dirty first. The car in the trailer is ripping all around the roads and scuffing rubber everywhere, but somehow manages to be perfectly clean? To the point of looking fake. If they want realism... just saying.

So 720p@60fps confirmed. xD

720p 60 fps then?

540p confirmed

60 fps is great but from that statement, you know that it's not going to be native 1920x1080.

Ouuuuch. Hahaha. Wow.

If it was 1080p they'd make a big deal about it.

Those were some VERY carefully chosen words. 60fps for a racing game aint news. If this shit was 1080p, you'd damn well know they'd be saying that alongside of it.

900p it is then maybe even lower considering other thread downclock rumors.

720p native confirmed

So their first party racing game at launch isn't 1080p? Am I hearing that correctly?

lol

This is rocket science shit right here folks.

Next gen unable to run at 1080

Dinner time boys come and get it!

Well the Quantum Break screens were 1080p.

Didn't say native 1080p
jpgdiIU.gif

I am on that side as well. Sarcasm or not.

GT5 also was 1080p just not "full 1080p" and it was full 1080p in menus.

I need to first see gameplay and not some bunch of promotional shoots and obviously enchanced "in-game" trailer.

Now it's "we'll see"? Wow.

People seem to believe everything they hear.

There's a rumour about a downgrade in the clock speed of the gpu? Well, the gpu then is already less powerful than the other unconfirmed rumour.

And someone says XB1 games won't have a mandatory resolution? Well, then Forza 5 is going to run at 720p.

Turn10 says otherwise? Well, everything else still holds true (while still being unconfirmed), therefore the game can't possibly run at full 1080p.

I mean, look at that logic.
