Microsoft has announced job cuts at Xbox Division

I see these layoffs at Xbox as cutting the useless devs and striking fear into the competent ones that are left. It's not about money. They let their devs do their thing, and they fucked up, like Turn 10, Rare, Ninja Theory.
The only studio that didn't deserve this shit at all was Tango.

Gamepass was a success for them and probably one of the only things that kept them in this gen as long as they were. Series S is another. PC is another. That's what they're moving towards. What they're doing today is not ignoring the market.

Well they've clearly been lying to themselves.

When i click it it's up but the original poster deleted his account and the post isn't on the main xbox sub when you go look for it. It's no where to be found on the main sub.
Still there for me, just took a screenshot

Oh I didn't know that was their game. They might be safe then, but I'm still expecting SOD3 to get cancelled at this rate (if it hasn't already).

Undead is also a more likely choice I think. Though I hope it doesn't happen. SoD2 was a janky glorious mess that I really enjoyed. Would love to see them hit with SoD3

I just looked on the main xbox sub reddit and it's not on their. The original poster deleted his account and the post is no where to be found.

My man, at least 5 people are telling you it's there.

At a point you should just realize you're doing something wrong.

Very likely does mean studio closures. If I were to take a guess, it'll be Compulsion and inXile. The former spent 8 years to put out a mid game which performed poorly in sales and got little engagement. The latter's been stalled out for years on a game last seen in 2020, and by all accounts is likely cancelled. Neither studio really offers any technical strengths that could benefit other studios, so easy to cut them.
??? Clockwork Revolution was one of the games with the most footage shown. You have a gameplay trailer from a month ago...

I'm not sure, but I think the layoffs won't translate into studio closures, but rather a "slimming down" of studios. Perhaps Compulsion is in danger, being a studio with 60-80 developers and a game already released...

The reason for thinking this way is that P. Spencer didn't announce the closure of any studio in his statement, although he has done so on other occasions.

We'll find out later today...

Yeah well I'm not removing anything. This is exactly what you'd expect from a 1st party transitioning to 3rd party after cratering hardware sales. This isn't some Playstation layoffs thread. The systems literally aren't selling.
When did you get the tag?

He continued in the Xbox Era interview: "It has been [a while]. And we've been able to give those teams time in what they're doing which is good and still have a portfolio like we have. It's like a dream that Matt (Booty) and I have had for a long time, so it's finally good to be there. We can give those teams time"
Phil Spencer studio visits are officially a curse at this point.

Well they've clearly been lying to themselves.
When looking at their Q3 numbers...all numbers are up from last year by more than 10%....even the little "gaming" section is up.

Pretty sure they might end up for the first time in their history with 100 billions profit (after tax and all). This is nuts! :messenger_open_mouth:

It's never bloody management.
What exactly are they managing?
It's complete bull!
If things get to a point where there are thousands of layoffs for the umpteenth time - surely the focus must shine on the management team, who clearly can't and shouldn't manage.

I'm guessing Perfect Dark cancelled + The Initiative shuttered is next based on what people are saying. I wonder if Crystal Dynamics could survive that.
Alex is UK-based so it might not be about them specifically.

Okay...what did you hear then? Like...tweets like this always get on my nerves.
He's going to post it eventually.

This looks like a historic day in the gaming business for all the wrong reasons tbh.

The only move that would be a 'messaging disaster' to me would be decimating or backtracking on hardware and/or Game Pass. I'd think the former since Sarah Bond's AMD announcement came out. We will see. Hate these, 'I know something' tweets.

Of all video game business misteries, the fact that Nintendo nevere tried to buy Rare is one of them... :-D If DK is still knownn today, it's is because if Snes DKC trilogy, easily...
I think with Jetforce Gemini and Conker Rare steered too far from Nintendo's public image of beloved characters so they had no interest in buying them. They replaced Rare but kept DK and didn't care for Conker, JFG, or Banjo. They were way to similar to their own IPs by the time DK64 came out, but not really that popular.
