Microsoft has announced job cuts at Xbox Division

Imagine reading this sort of bullshit as MS lays you off. What kind of corporate bullshit speak is this?

Vastly different industry, but I was told once "well are amazed at how much you manage to do and we would not be able to function as well as we do without you."

A week later I was walked out the door and told I no longer had a job. I hate every single executive there is. They are ALL scum.

"we will end or decrease work in certain areas of our business"

They really do like going round the houses with their wording.

Who is he dude? Reliable?

Only an American could write something like that, I refuse to think a French or a German would have just kept digging like Phil did here. It's like he really thinks if he just spread the statement long enough people that lose their jobs will feel bad for him and the company.

Even the AI is on point :messenger_poop::
Microsoft's Game Pass strategy, while initially disruptive, backfired by conditioning Xbox users to wait for games instead of buying them. This cannibalized sales, strained revenue, and forced reliance on a costly subscription model. Studio acquisitions ballooned expenses, but when growth slowed, layoffs and closures followed. Now, Game Pass can't be canceled without backlash, yet rising prices push users away. Microsoft's focus is shifting to PC/Multiplatform as Xbox stagnates. The core failure lies in overcommitting to a single model without balancing long-term sustainability — a miscalculation that's now unraveling its gaming division.

They announced 6k job cuts at the end of 2024 right? So this makes 15k? That's crazy even for a company as large as Microsoft. All while profits are up around 13%, doesn't seem right.
MSFT annual profit margin is around 40% lately, only part of Xbox close to that is King, and Activision if CoD does well, Mojang might be around that too.

Already rumors of it floating around.
Perfect Dark was the next best thing to a new Deus Ex entry....(if you caste aside Cyberpunk)....One thing we DO know for sure is, come the 25th anniversary, brand Xbox will be even further a shadow of its former self...(I know it already is, but it will be even more into the abyss come July 2026.) No longer a big juggernaut name in the console business..

True, they are all scum. I've had my fair share of shitty company executives in my line of work too.

Maybe MS should use Korean chicks to advertise their stuff.

No idea who or what this music/person is, but apparently the kids love it.

From...another forum:
I'm hearing from the grapevine (so please take with a big, potentially massive grain of salt) that Kojima OD's publishing contract with MS might be up in flames. KJP owns the IP and will shop for a new publisher.
Holy shit...big if true. But it would explain why Kojima keeps mentioning PS's next game but not the Xbox one.

Rumbles in Discords I'm in. Could be nothing. Just a feeling.

I would not doubt it at this point. The warning signs were there when they had to bring in Crystal Dynamics to help. Maybe they will dodge the bullet, but if Microsoft is so hellbent on squeezing every dime out of every division then I'd imagine there is a pretty large target on a studio that has been around for seven years and not brought in their first penny of revenue.

They cut like 6000 jobs in May and are now cutting 9000 jobs. 15,000 jobs cut in the span of approximately two months is beyond brutal and this is coming from a trillion dollar company as they announce they are doing better than ever. Microsoft is pure evil.

Wonder how Colt, Jez, and Destin will spin this as a positive for Xbox.

Edit: fanboy is really fighting hard

I personally wasn't sold on that last trailer, making a vertical slice demo video without even announcing a release date or window was sus as fuck.

I get the impression Phil knows this will be dissected by the media, so he's trying to stave off some criticism in the process. What he's saying is:
  1. "Decisions were made in the past that we can't change that are putting us in this situation."
  2. "We're only doing as good as we are because we've been willing to let people go in the past when the numbers said we should."
  3. "If we want to keep improving, we have to keep letting people go."
  4. "Even though we're letting people go, we really appreciate the work they put in while they were here."
What this should say to everyone is don't work for Microsoft if you value job security at all. If you go to work for them, you should approach it from the mindset that you can be culled at any time and your job performance is irrelevant.

I'm not in this position, but hypothetically if I were applying for a job inside MS, I would be thinking:
  1. If I take this job, I would need a higher than average salary, because I'll need to save more than I normally would to build up an emergency fund. If I normally feel like I need 4-6 months of pay in savings, I should only take the job if I can get a higher salary and save up into the 8-10 month range.
  2. Clearly it doesn't matter how good an individual is at their job if they lay off thousands of people at a time. Either they were just letting people who weren't meeting the standard continue to collect a paycheck, or they're not looking at people's performance when they do these cuts.
  3. I should expect when cuts happen, if I'm still there, I will get more work put on my plate to make up for the people who get let go. And of course, that won't come with an increase in pay. "We can't afford to give you a raise - we just had a round of layoffs!"
Working at Microsoft (or any big company like this) should be approached with a mindset of "get in and get what you can, while you can before you're let go". That's the right approach for the employees, but it shouldn't surprise anyone that it's going to lead to a shitty product/service from the company.

What would be the point of killing Perfect Dark? Just remodel her into a total babe and then you get the Stellar Blade crowd.

Let's start by the fact the game has been in development for like half a decade already, a studio was created for it, then they brought another studio to work on it, etc...if the game is nowhere near competition...it's possible that it will be canceled but we'll see.

Man what a sad day for the industry...

What a mess all of this is.

This is a business division that's seemingly obsessed and addicted with using shills to try and control online messaging/discourse, but yet they have no idea how to announce things in a way that doesn't leave things open for rumours to start flying around.

Wow. Everwild and now rumors about Perfect Dark, Zenimax Online's new IP, and Kojima's OD as well. Could be 4 games cancelled. I bet Sony cancels FAIRGAME$ tomorrow since they like to hide their bad PR behind Xbox stuff like today.
