Microsoft: 'We have no intention of shooting the Core'

MS is most certainly eating Sony's lunch. Not only has the Xbox brand moved on level terms with Playstation it's also stole a lot of Sony's hardcore audience. It's not all about who ends up in third place at the end of the generation but more the huge amount of ground MS have made up since the original XBOX days.

Don't be silly, ps2 sold like 140 million and xbox and gamecube did like 50 combined, now ps3 is under 50 million where the other 2 are beating it by either 4ish million and like, 30 million I think in the wiis case, that does NOT mean anyone ate sonys lunch.

Sony will still hit that same figure, crisis averted!

(xbox 360 doubling the original xbox while ps3 falls to like 1/3 of the ps2 means someone ate someones lunch)

that statement sounds incredibly condescending to me, as if they're supporting the core still out of charity rather than because it makes them tons of money and is the reason they've been successful this gen

Sony has always had more core exclusives, but it didn't stop Microsoft from eating their lunch this gen.

And? personally as a gamer I just want more core games that I'm interested in, all this console war shit is getting tiresome seriously, Sony/MS/Nintendo, any one of these companies can eat the lunch off of whoever's plate but that makes no difference to me, one or two good exclusives on one system can outsell ten good exclusives on another system but I'll take the ten exclusives every-time if I have make a choice, a company eating another companies launch thus far this gen hasn't proven to me that it results in giving me a platform with more games that I'm interested in so until then (or until I owned shares in these companies) I don't see the point in waving such flags as victory.

So anyone that owns a Kinect is a casual gamer? Did I like give up my core license when I bought the thing?
Wait, you didn't turn in your jacket when you bought your Kinect?

uh oh, looks like the nerd police will be knocking at someone's door tonight.

I would hope "Core" means games people actually continue to play years after release rather than just some sales numbers. Microsoft has the ability to track games that are being played by the user base with Xbox LIVE.

Maybe the "Core" game won't have a chance to sell more than 500,000 copies, so set the games budget lower and concentrate on gameplay. The three most important aspects to a Core game should be Gameplay, Gameplay, and Gameplay.

I understand the need to have a 1st party tentpole release during a holiday season, that is all things to all people, but some games should focus on a narrow audience with modest sales goals.

It seems you're under the assumption that you've lost something. Microsoft said their intention was to expand the appeal of the Xbox, not compromise it. Is it impossible that they have simply added resources? This is Microsoft after all.

Don't use Rare as an example, they were never successful with the core Xbox demographic.

Is it possible? Sure. The reality won't become clear until later on. I'm personally not worried, for the simple reason that I have more games to play than time to play them already. But any Xbox 360 fan who's disgruntled or just concerned have legitimate reasons.

So the it seems microsoft is screwed and I need to sell my 2 xbox 360s and 88+ games. Sell my kinect and move to ps3?

Yup. It's over for MS and the X360.

Apparently, there's nothing on the X360 this year to play (other than Gears3). Year of the PS3 again, right? :lol

Seriously though, who here on GAF is still deciding which console to buy at this point? I'm having a difficult time believing the console warriors in here are using 2011 game releases as the deciding factor on whether to get an X360 or PS3. Sounds like a lot of concern trolling to me.

The majority of gamers are single console owners. Those gamers will be more than satisfied with an X360 or PS3, regardless of the amount of exclusives in a given year.
