I really hope torches that are placed and become lanterns break if you pick them up. Not that I care about what others are doing as Minecraft is pretty much played entirely by your own play style. One thing I don't get though is all these people farming torches is you could probably just as easily mod in lanterns to replace your torches if it bothers you that much.

I wonder if lanterns will be a stronger source of light for when you are really far underground. Maybe the light source reachs farther than a torch? So much to think about :)

You don't care, but you hope they break if picked up, but they should just mod the game anyway? Huh? You said it, planning ahead doesn't cause harm to anybody else...so why do you care how they play their game?

People are getting weird about this.

I came across an above ground lava flow which caused a huge forest fire in my snow world. Completely unexpected and awesome. I don't know why this game is so addictive, but these little surprises are definitely part of the reason.

Cheating is serious. Minecraft is serious. This is real shit.

Oh well, that was $10 wasted for me. I keep getting bug that crashes the ATI driver whenever I play Minecraft. Playing on a Win7 64 bit computer with an ATI Radeon 5830 graphic cards. Some people suggest trying out different older versions of the graphic driver, but I won´t be doing that for this one game, when I have more than 50 other games that actually works.

I´ll guess I will be getting back to the game when the actual bug has been fixed.

Hmm, that might work aswell :O I'll try saving some both in chests and on the ground!

What do you mean, that your graphic card is too good to use when playing MC? Sounds weird :/

Sometimes there are graphics card driver bugs where you have to use older drivers. I don't really blame him for not wanting to go back to older drivers. Yesterday I went back to the 10.5 ATI drivers just so I could play King's Bounty: The Legend without the whole screen flashing.

At least if he ever gets a different computer, he has the account (and whatever updates Notch makes) to just download the game again!

So, I was digging an underground tree farm when suddenly I fell through the floor into a small cave. I had been hearing a lot of noises from around everywhere though, so, being afraid they'd be creepers, I first decided to seal it up and finish the farm before I moved on. When the farm was finished I decided to dig down and make some stairs into the cave, but I somehow dug right pass the first opening, only to discover an even larger cave underneath. It had some creepers and zombies in there though, so at first I was a bit afraid they'd make it up the stairs and blow my farm to hell (which would probably have made me stop playing right then and there :lol ).

Anyways, managed to kill two creepers w/o them exploding on me and decided to explore further. I was struck by an underground spring/river:

Pretty neat to find water so far down. I'm happy about it, because I was thinking about filling buckets above ground and get them down there. I guess now I don't have to. :D

Edit: There's a ton of monsters down there. Yikes! :lol

Your best bet in any situation when dealing with having water in a good amount for when you need it is to create an infinite water spring.

Dig a hole in the ground, 2x2x1. (That's two blocks wide on both sides, one block deep.)

Take a water bucket and place a spring in each of the four corners of the square in the ground you created.

Water. Forever.

The more efficient version of which is a 3x1 hole, putting water springs in the left and right. The middle one will automagically replenish itself.

Just sharing my recent Minecraft experience.

Am digging diagonal-upwards for coal, and the wall opens into a massive cavern. As per my usual procedure, I begin to put torches around my entry point and slowly expand into the cavern. Carefully does it, slowly round each corner spreading the light...

I hear a noise and look up. THREE Creepers are on a wall, and leap down at the same time. I panic, run back, but they have the scent. I equip my diamond sword and dispatch two, while the third detonates.

I'm alive, just under half health. I hear a noise from behind me, in the opposite dark direction.

TWO skeletons, FOUR zombies and TWO spiders. The spiders at the back are already trying to leap over the advancing wave of undead. The hoarde is pouring down one passageway, as if they heard the explosion and are hungry for this underground intruder.

I pull out the sword and start stabbing with abandon. I'm spinning and jumping, I wish I could say on purpose, but it was all panic.

Eventually the last spider collapsed and I survive, with a one-half of a heart of health left.

Its probably not a unique story, but god damn have I never endured such a concentrated attack in one go before, let alone survived it. I advanced a tiny bit further before retreating, no spawn cage.

This game is the stuff of legends.

I'm really sure he'll just swap the ids. So 50 is the new latern then and torches are 253 or whatever. Everything else doesn't make so much sense.

You know, when you said this, I had just thought you added a few things here and there. But no, you basically remodeled the entire place. :lol I logged out on the bed only to find myself on top of the kitchen table. :lol

It looks nice, though. I just hadn't really messed with my penthouse because I already had a pretty well furnished house in Brohill.

Not a totally unique story, and yet I always love reading impressions like this. What a game.

Messed around in multiplayer this weekend with some friends where we proceeded to create massive TNT reactions that basically leveled the earth/framerate/server. So much fun, even if it's an entirely different brand of fun from single player survival.

Jesus. I mean, you can find clusters like that if you're doing specialist mining, but to find it all in a cave like that is seriously impressive. All the reward and minimum effort.

You will never find a cave like that again, for as long as you play Minecraft. I've never seen anything like it.

yeah, the "box" the torches occupy sometimes get a little white outline around them on this PC. Dunno why. It's much less distracting when you're actually playing

I have exactly the same thing (the lines). Figured it was just a limitation of the block-based engine.

Somewhere in this thread is the solution to this problem.

Turn off Anti-Aliasing in your video card settings or set it to "Application Controlled". I had the same issue and that, my friends, is the solution! :D

After spending a long, long, loong time exploring crap, I thought I should start building up home near my spawn point. Kinda got this started:

2ymsu2x.jpg

So far my idea was to dig down the center and create a glass staircase connecting a potential cave system to my base, just not sure on what to do on the surface. Have loads of iron/gold bars and tons of glass made, all I need is a couple ideas.

Halp please, I guess :D

I like it a lot, too, and Luigi out front. As soon as I manage to collect enough gold, there will be a coin above it.

Trying to design a big glass tower/castle that reaches from the bedrock to the max sky limit. Still tons of ore to dig down. Think im around 4-5 ore deep in the area. I plan to flood the water all the way down like a massive waterfall to the bedrock that will eventually all go around but keep its natural look

Lots of work in progress. Ive spent probably 30-40 hours on this area alone. Needing to get the iron/diamond for pickaxes ect... Ill update when more significant work has been done. 60 more ore down in the area will probably take me weeks of work.

I love missing this thread for a day and coming back to see what everyone has been working on. Kudos to you all. Everything is beautiful. Huzzah for Minecraft!

I think one of the most endearing qualities is when you are going through a cave system, and you hear noises. And it might be behind that gravel wall, or in the darkness ahead, but you start to get some anxiety. That anxiety turns to fear when you hear the "thrum" of a bow. You can't see the arrow, you don't know where it is coming from, but at that moment...panic. Depending on your current inventory, experience, capabilities, and position, you are left with a few options; Run like hell, charge with your mother fucking sword, or fall back and start laying the heat on with your bow. Choosing the option to run, usually you want to build a wall as fast as minecraftian capabilities will allow, and know that you are safe for the time being, and you have the time to formulate a strategy.

That is how I've been doing it anyways. I'm in a cave system that, as far as I can see, will go on forever. I keep finding new areas, new mobs, and more resources. I'm still collecting iron so I can start building my cart tracks. I'm excited to experiment with switches, redstone, booster tracks, and the like.

I love this game. So much to do, and it can be overwhelming. I have a few ideas, I'm just patiently gathering materials, and exploring the unknown. I hate horror movies, and horror games, and this is a whole new level of hell for that. But because of what you are trying to do in those caves, it is totally worth it.

Happy mining, architecting, masoning, and demolishing! Keep those creepers at bay!
