I haven't played in the last few days, but I have heard it's quite bad. Does the verification code, after his recent blog entry about him not liking code that mods the client, mean this is basically a result of DRM-ish code? I think Notch is pretty great, and I don't use client mods, but hopefully he at least reverts it if his efforts to restrict things make performance worse and introduce glitches like this.Horsebite said:Notch just tweeted that the block reappearing thing is a bug that's happening a lot in SMP and is going to have to "reduce the verification code" or something. Who knows, at least he is aware it's an issue.
It's probably nothing to do with drm. Verification code in that sense would before linked to the server talking to the client verifying that they both think blocks are in the same place.Blizzard said:I haven't played in the last few days, but I have heard it's quite bad. I just asked because it all seemed to come at the same time -- the comments about client mods being questionably legal, Notch then backing off on Twitter saying he wasn't sure about how legal client mods were, the recent update adding texture pack support but breaking people's mods otherwise, and the comment about verification code.Jasoco said:For the last time, it's not DRM. It only checks the server once. On startup after you log in. And mainly to make sure you're registered and create a ticket for use if you are offline, and to check for updates. It doesn't constantly check for verification. It's not DRM. It's a simple login and update system.

That's definitely what it looks like. The engine creates the world first, then places dungeons. For some reason they have no cobblestone roof so they depend on whatever is above them. In this case it was half sand. Pretty cool actually.ZZMitch said:Yeah, I am guessing it was in a cave, but then the sand randomly fell and revealed it.
I found one that was waist deep in sand with a layer of ice overtop of it. Was quite beautiful, I should go take a screen shot.Haunted said:

What's funny is that there is an online multiplayer thread for Minecraft already in the Online Forum! Same with Starcraft II! :lolCryptozoologist said:Aw, this thread is buried in the Online forum now? I think single player is very much a huge part of this game.
They're basically there so people know to avoid the megathreads of death.MrMister said:What's funny is that there is an online multiplayer thread for Minecraft already in the Online Forum! Same with Starcraft II! :lol
It's also funny since by SMP is still so incomplete, by Notch's own admission, right? Singleplayer came first and drew people to the game, and it's what works best right now. I guess the general idea is to draw more people to the online forum.Vlad said:Yeah, that's more than a little bit odd, considering there's already a multiplayer thread.
Every time I find a dungeon I mine all of its mossy cobblestone and take all its goodies.kennah said:I found one that was waist deep in sand with a layer of ice overtop of it. Was quite beautiful, I should go take a screen shot.
yeah seems pretty stupid but hey what are you gonna do?ZZMitch said:Why is this in the online section :lol
I see a lot more single player discussion.

Diamond is extremely rare. If you use a program to highlight it, you'll see it is only in small clumps of maybe 4 or 8 pieces at most scattered all over the place. And you only get one per block. Redstone you get like 5 per block and end up with so much. But diamond is so rare. I wish it at least gave you 3 per block. It's useful but fucking hell. He really needs to tweak some of the variables in the generation algorithm. More diamond. Slightly more iron. Slightly less coal.JodyAnthony said:Any tips for finding diamond? i have played my current world for probably 15 hours now with no diamond anywhere.
No problems here. Does it crash once you're connected or while you're still trying to connect? If it's the former you could try setting your render distance to a lower setting.shidoshi said:As I'm new to the whole multiplayer side of Minecraft... is there anybody on here who plays on a Mac that is able to connect to multiplayer servers? I'm trying to connect to a friend's server, and Minecraft crashes every time I try.
JodyAnthony said:argh, still no diamond despite my searches. I want to make a portal without having to make a mold and all that.
If you play on Peaceful you can leave some of the stuff behind. Like food and weapons. Since if you get hurt from a fall, you'll heal and even if you touch lava you heal slightly faster than it hurts you. Still, water can be useful for this if only to turn it into obsidian.SmokingBarrelX said:
