Minecraft |OT2| Punch Your Way to Your Own World

Okay, here's my first building in Castleton.

Oh that looks awesome Mik, great job man.

I'm going to have to finish off my place pronto now more buildings are popping up, keep getting distracted by the huge wall.

Misanthropy said:
Bootay is it okay if I build a castle near Mik's castle in Castleton? Right now I'm using sand as a template but then I'll switch it out to something more castlelike.

Yeah, that's fine, just don't go too far beyond Mik's tower, because there's going to be a large 4-towered castle towards the back of the island.

Also, bear in mind that there may be a lot of sand around now, but I'm going to cover it up with grass eventually.

Another question: Will Castleton still be a bustling new city after the 1.8 update? I don't want to build for nothing.

I don't know if it'll be bustling, people will probably want to head to new areas and explore and build with the new features - but Castleton is going to take AGES to complete, so hopefully people will come back to it and keep adding stuff. There's a lot to do.

So, why not name things in German for this town? It makes it a bit more fun, don't you think?

I agree, any suggestions for names or types of buildings we can have? A Gothic cathedral? A long-hall?

Thanks Bootaaay!.

I have started a road on the lower area of the town but I'm not sure where you'll be placing your castle. I don't think it's where my road is, anywhere.. but just in case, could you go and check out if I'm building where you want to build the castle?. I plan on getting a road all the way to the other side of the small lake below the other tower (not the one I made). Have it follow a similar path as the wall, and have buildings on both sides of the road.

But what about day&night cycle! ;_;

The mod breaks redstone, so we can't use it :(

I'll try and find another mod that does the same thing though.

EDIT:

Just to let everyone know, 'splashrider' is my 8 year old sister. Yeah, fucking brilliant :lol

Anyone know what the score is with my tunnel? It's been blocked on both sides and flooded haha!

Health and Safety indeed! I need to chuck in a few more bits of track but i've got no iron after the rest of it all. I'd not reject any help in raising the ceiling though ;) Still gonna take hours until it's properly finished.

Turns out one of my chests has been cleared out too. Joy.

Hey I want to build either a church or a Tavern/inn in your castle town, theres alot of empty space that is inside the wall. Can I just building there or is there stuff you need to do first?

I was probably going to put a big church in at some point on the other side of the mountains, once the town has spread out a bit, but a tavern would be pretty cool near the main entrance to the town.

My mountaintop castle's coming along quite nicely. Haven't taken shots of it yet (I FELL TO MY DEATH LAST TIME) but suffice to say, I'm really enjoying building it. The only problem is I really don't know what direction it's going to go in; I found some tiny, open caves that overlook the mountainside cliffs that would make nice observation posts, so I may build down into the mountain to reach those.

Also, had I known about Castleton, I would have built the whole darn thing there. Oh well, I'll build my summer castle there! :p

So, I decided to change the color of Happy Mac's monitor:

And here's a look behind the scenes (don't mind the mess in the frame around the monitor)!

I think the blue works better than the magenta did

So after building a tower in Castleton I was left wanting to do more, so I decided to undertake a fairly large project of building my own castle in Rochetopia. Here it is at about 90% completed:

And here's a view from the tower:

I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out as I wasn't sure if I could pull it all together on such a tight space, but it all worked out in the end.

(The little town of Rochetopia will be expanding soon too, this was just an offshoot project I couldn't resist doing.)

Hey everyone Liz (isobelise) here, I hijacked my husbands account to post my new idea for a big ass project. We'll need as many people to help as we can get, organized that is...
Okay here it is (don't look at my slightly hasty (photoshop crashed) retarded drawing skills)
basically i took many peoples ideas mixed em with my own and voila ^^
Hope you like the idea

BIOGAF CITY

A mad scientist, she must have been. She wanted to lift a mountain, oh... she did it.
Utopia is what the city should be, elevated in the skies with balloons. Rich and poor living together in harmonious luxury. As if! Soon the lots where sold to highest bidders. Biogaf became a utopia allright, for the rich. The poor living beneath it in the dark, cold, wet slums.
The sewers from the city above flowing in their streets.

BIOGAF.jpg

So okay enough story crap, in this project a whole mountain needs to be moved to be a floating island, tricky and tough job :p Basically you'd make two cities with very different rules:

Biogaf City;

- Very restricted lots perfectly mapped city. Apartment complexes may be built. So you can take on a lot project with more people.
- Style will be art-nouveau with a dash of industrial. Needs to ooze luxury
- In the centre of the city wil be a main square/park and cityhall (maybe the new spawnpoint)
- benath the streets sewersystem can be made wit a black market (á la Dalaran, WOW)

Slumville

For the slums rules are easy:
- use many materials at once in your walls to build the house, it needs to looks messy and scrappy
- Lots can be randomly picked for the looks of disorder and have to be connected to a minimum of one road.
- Lots cannot! be bigger then 12x12
- Seeming you'd live in the sewers and there is a quite lively water and pests problem the roads are 4 blocks wide; road, water, water, road or in cramped allies road water road.
well you get the idea.

The whole project is, as I said, based on the ideas of many people from the gaf server, as well as Bioshock infinate and world of warcrafts Dalaran. Let me read on what you peeps think of it!

Kisses Liz

So it's pretty unlikely anyone cares about my little experience so far, but I got the trial of this from the Humble Indie Bundle and I felt like sharing.

First off, let me say with a fierce intensity: don't let me buy this game. I have shit to do. All the comments about this being addictive are true and I cannot afford another timesink.

Anyway. I found the wiki's advice on your first home to be really sound. I dug into the side of the first mountain I could find and called it my lair. I have to constantly go back to the recipe list to see what I can build with what I have, and how, but I built the useful bits (bed, table, door, furnace) and started cozying the place up over the first night. Morning comes and I look out the front door, directly at a creeper.

So, time to dig down.

I accidentally let another creeper into my basement, but not far enough that he can reach me. They're actually easy to kill, and pretty soon I hunted some spiders and had a bow and arrow set to handle things properly. I stock up and craft a little more and it's time for

ADVENTURE!

I get maybe 20 yards west when I stumble across a cavern.

ADVENTURE OVER!

Wind up digging into that and finding plenty of iron, a spot of gold, and underground lakes; avoiding a massive chasm in total fear of the dark and scary noises; and accidentally digging upward into the floor of a lake. Which was a fun lesson in the game's swimming mechanics.

Also, found my first dungeon. On the surface. Easiest dungeon ever.

So now I've got a boat, a mountain lair (with an antenna on the roof so I can find it in the distance), a subterranean shack, an on-the-beach hideaway, and I've barely gone more than 150 blocks in any direction from spawn.

I don't have the patience to farm. I don't have the creativity to build. I don't have the bravery to battle.

And I'm already addicted to swinging around a pickaxe like an idiot.

Do not let me buy this game.

Sounds to me like you want to be convinced to buy the game :p

If you don't buy it soon(ish/November) it will go up in price when 1.8 is released! (I believe)
You can join the NeoGaf server, see all the things people have built. You can dig huge caverns! Build your own house in towns, gather resources to help other people build and know you have helped make a huge tower or something.

You know you want to ;)

I think we should have multiple islands personally, pretty much make it look like Bioshock Infinite.

We could connect them with rollercoasters!

If the height restriction is lifted a bit it'd be absolutely brilliant.

ofc multiple islands would be nice :D with hanging bridges and rollercoasters.

Just a beginning with one main island ^^ and the sewer city below seemed wise
you can have a private island, if you can pay for it :p

No, I really do mean it when I say I have shit to do. :p

I may be more willing after the Adventure mode gets added, assuming then I'd have something resembling an end goal. What I've discovered is that my dislike for most sandbox games was because you didn't really impact the world; here that's literally all you can do. So without a goal to work towards I'd just get lost and waste all sorts of time that I'd really rather not waste.

Drain part of the fucking ocean. Now there's a "project". :D
Haha, thats not what i mean. Have the lowest level of the floating city b 4-5 blocks above sea level. Affords you a lot of space to build up, but still looks like its floatinf high, because it's seen in comparion to the flat ocean.

I would do it in the ocean.

Somewhere like this, where only minimal alteration would be required (filling in the shore, dredging the ocean).

Yep, they always give you your first dungeon within a few blocks of your spawn. Just dig around and you'll find one...listen for the sounds of enemies.

God, you sound just like me my first week.

Please buy. As much fun as you're having, imagine if you could do it on a shared server with a few dozen like minded dudes who respect your space and are there to share your ideas with.

I don't own Minecraft, I always avoided it because I knew it would be addicting and I was busy. When Terraria came out I got addicted to that though, been taking a break from it recently while waiting for the patch though (which should be today or tomorrow actually) but I regress. I've been playing recently thanks to the Indie Bundle trial. I created a few worlds at first just to learn how to play. I try to avoid the Wiki as much as possible - I knew from a previous excursion into the free version of the game how to place blocks, create a crafting table, a pickaxe, shovel, axe, hoe, sword, and torches... and I knew the basic idea of building a house to protect myself at night and mining to find ore to upgrade my gear. Everything else was new to me.

Fast forward a few days and I think I'm pretty comfortable with the crafting. I quickly figured out a lot of the other important things (doors, stairs, chests, bed, furnace, armor, etc). I have full Iron gear and necessary tools. I've been running across a lot of that red dust, which seems to be how you make powered devices but I think I'll have to read up on how to actually build anything with that as it seems complicated (though maybe just figuring it out could be rewarding to) I did make a clock though. I also figured out how to farm wheat apparently with grass seeds (weird) but I'm failing to see how bread is worth all the hassle when pigs are so plentiful and their cooked meat heals more. I suppose you just need a massive massive farm to get the benefits.

So my current world is pretty interesting, my spawn point is in a bunch of mountains protruding from the ocean... or at least there is a LOT of water. I commonly go out into the water to hunt the swimming pigs and sheep, haha. I have a tiny little hut but I put a huge tower on top with some torches so I could orient myself to it (I kept getting lost in my first world - but now I'm thinking maybe there's a compass like there is a clock?). Main problem I'm having is my massive mine seems to have hit a dead end - I can't break through all the black rocks at the bottom... and besides a tiny bit of gold I haven't found anything other than iron and coal plus the aforementioned dust (plus this blue stuff but it's just to make dye I think?)

I don't really know what to do now. I assumed I'd eventually reach lava or find caverns with monsters to fight and lots of crystals and better ore but no such luck. My mine has become quite a complicated labyrinth of tunnels with multiple checkpoints and signs that's just getting more and more confusing to navigate. I even went as far as building a straight path down to the lower levels with stairs but no matter how much I mine around I don't know how to get deeper. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, any help would be appreciated.

Can we have a design document with material limitations for the castle please? I'm sick of arguing with people who have differently coloured bricks in their texture packs.
