I logged onto Neocraft earlier and had no idea what to do.

Do I need permission to build somewhere or can I just start building wherever I want? Do I get my own plot of land? Does the server run a mod?

PM Ark to ask for citizenship to build. As far as land find a place that is free of a build and go to town. generally things are marked, but the further you get away from spawn the easier it is to find a place to start building. I also recommend looking at the map of the server and try to find a place you want to build on from that, get the coordinates and then go there in game. Plenty of space though.

I wouldn't consider it begging, unless you beg for it. And its not like what you get at the harvester is diamond or anything where it would be perceived ad begging.

You can do what I did and get one of each resource from the harvester and replant at your place to grow your own, sure its not automated like the harvester but hey we all can't be artistdude awesome. I know I am not.

And Nihon makes a good point. I don't think I have seen your build yet at all. I would like to stop by sometime as well.

I would have started playing MC again (on Neocraft of course) but apparently sounds don't work on Win7 without doing something... Didn't bother. Hate PC gaming really, hate always having to tweak something, always having to fix something.
Seeing that map really makes me want to visit it though.

As for Win 7, I've been running Minecraft on Win 7 64 bit for a year now, never had a problem. Do you have Java 64 bit installed?

Yeah, i think so... will check for sure next time i update Java.
The issue is apparently pretty common but not universal. And the fix isn't hard, i just didn't bother doing anything, too pissed off at such problems even existing.
I'll get around fixing it someday and then visit Neocraft. And then build something, though first i need to figure out what i want to build... too many ideas

Feel free to swing by my farm. Nothing is automated but all the farm-ables should be there. My only request is to replant any crops harvested and breed animals if you kill them. There are plenty of sheep for wool and you are free to dye them any colour.

There's certainly some stuff to see underground at my place. To get to my place head to the hub gate near spawn. (the diamond gate). When at the hub head underground and my gate can be found in the mix.

If the animals, which I admit there is a lot of at the Harvester, are causing problems, I have come up with a solution to fix it.

The problem is that my gaming computer is literally in pieces right now... And I'm on a bit of an "internet break" at the moment as well. So it'll be next month before I start working on it... Unless I cave in, heh.

I would do it now but for the life of me I can't remember what your minecraft username was (I am 41 and running out of brain cells fast).

When Nine was all finished I fiddled with the permissions ex file and made him a Citizen again and thought that was the end of it .......... But nooooooooooooooooo Mr Ark had to have his creative gates and a fancy smancy portal area for them. So Mr Ark was the one that made Ninefingers a Mod again ;-) I just thought "F**K it if someone wants landscaping done we can give it all to Ninefingers since he is a dab hand at that kind of thing".

But yeah I am getting quite adept at adding people to the white list and I even manage to do it sometimes without crashing all the permissions which is always a nice thing.

I am 41 the only time I can get anything to "rise" these days is if I take a blue pill called "Viagra". At the end of the day I could probably do something that looks like an island, it won't be pretty ......... in fact it would be "oh yeah that looks like something Charlie created". Whereas Ninefingers is an artist and can make things look natural as opposed to my ability to make things look and sound unnatural.

Well, new people on Neocraft should easily notice the thing i made. If they understand the referrence. It is very near the Spawn.

I made a huge mistakse... or would have, if i hadn't caught it early enough. Oriented my project wrong way at first.. East-west is much better, one end sees sun- and moonrises.

Now i need to figure out how to build the thing. I guess i have to make rough outline with dirt and other basic material and the replace it with final stuff. Spontaneity is part of MC. Not keen on planning too much.
In retrospect I'm not sure i really made a mistake, rather maybe my preferrence changed. I wanted one narrow side of the building to point toward sunrise.

Anyway, now i'm wondering about how i'll make the main door. 2xstandard doors is not imposing enough. Need something more... Is it possible to make doors that retract to sides with sticky pistons? Doors that are 2blocks wide, so total of 4 blocks wide doorway.

It is very possible to make that, or even go 3x3 if you want.

That I don't know. I am not the best with redstone. In fact I always bug Nihon for redstone help when I need it and can't find a youtube tutorial. The guy is crazy good with redstone.

Unfortunately it retracts down and up. Don't like how that looks. Well, i'll keep things simple and make the door side retracting 2x4 for now.
The tutorials are going to be handy though. Now to hunt for sticky pistons...

I know that you could use a falling block to possibly do what you want but as that's how most portcullis gates are built but I can't say exactly how to use it to get it to work the way you want.

My building is not a castle so portcullis is out of question. Wouldn't fit this.

2x4 will do fine. The game needs "glue" to allow sticky piston to pull longer stacks :/

EDIT can't get the structure planner program to work. Hangs up when trying to do something. Oh, well, not a big deal, i built without accurate plans anyway. Still need to draw a referrence picture... if i can.

Woorlong, to answer your question; your gut feeling is right and your door won't work. Sticky pistons only grab the blocks they are facing on the side that actually extends from the piston.

You could do a very, very deep portcullis, but that also might bun into some big problems.

If you want to do something like that, though (a very high door that retracts into the wall), you can do it. Just make your door 2-wide (1 block on each side) instead of 4 wide. I'm building a 2-wide gate right now.

I made the door just one block wide on each side. It will do but... well, 4x4 or even better, 4x6 door would be much more imposing. 2 block wide doorway that is 3 blocks deep (by necessity, have to hide the pistons) look uncomfortably narrow.

But i guess i'll have to do with what i have until... if the game gets "glue".
