Minecraft |OT2| Punch Your Way to Your Own World

I started a new world in Minecraft and blew most of my first day just looking around, heh. Had to quickly craft my only piece of charcoal into some torches and set up a little wooden hut in a forested Tundra sitting right next to a jungle (I love how nonsensical Minecraft's biomes are). Began the very, very dull act of sitting the first night out (because I have no wool to make a bed :V)...

...and then realized I was on Peaceful.

I wound up exploring the crap out of that night instead. Already see a few caves worth a look. Gonna have to shift the difficulty back up to at least Easy, though.

Ran into a GIGANTIC vein of lava. My OCD is screaming at me to get all of it before I do anything else, but there's like hundreds of blocks of obsidian here.

Minecraft really needs an official way to undo updates in case your kids (or you) accidentally hit 'yes' to update but your servers don't update.

Fucking fuck yes.

I want to delete Minecraft so fucking bad everytime they update. So 1.5 comes out, it breaks MCForge and derps all the damned mods I had installed for the kids.

So I go and reinstall a new version of Forge, and it stalls because all the old mods aren't compatible with 1.5 or whatever and so I go one by one deleting them all...

Fuck what I wouldn't give for a Steam Workshop version of modding Minecraft.

Skyrim on Steam got it so fucking right it's not even funny.

Minecraft hoses everything each time you update, and it's not like modding MC is all that fun to start with since shit break all the damn time, and it just frustrates the shit out of me in ways no other game modding ever has.

My daughter just wants her freaking MLP mod back, and I can't get that shit to work and I'm supposed to get on a damn CC here in a minute.

Venting over.

This map is awesome.

Are you guys thinking about uploading the actual world file at any point? Like so other gaffers can download it and check it out at anytime. I still have the first neocraft world saved.

This is definitely a nice change, because I stopped bothering with enchanted books pretty quickly. This will give me a reason to use them again.

I've never really gotten into enchantments - put off by the whole randomness of it. If you enchant a book, its still assigned a random power right? It's just that you can choose what to then combine it with so you don't waste fortune on a sword for instance?

Wow, seriously? Enchanted tools and armor are awesome in the game, makes such a huge difference, especially when it comes to picks and shovels. Ever since they added XP to ore mining and smelting I've been enchanting things left and right.

I might be missing something, but how is this THAT big of a deal. You could always use multiple books on a single tool, correct? Just combine one book with it on the anvil, then do it again with the already-enchanted tool. So now you're just combining the books first and then dumping it all on the tool at once. Unless there's it's more efficient in terms of EXP use to combine books than to enchant tools, I'm not getting what the big deal is.

I'd like some way to get a partial experience refund on enchanted books that I know I'm never going to use, personally.

Same here.
Also dislike the way you have to arrange bookshelves to gain best enchants... i want to make a library have enchanting tables there, not small rooms with table in the middle.
And i don't want to make an enchanting room just for tha purpose, such thing would have bookshelves anyway, in my mind.

Sure, enchants are effective, but making them.. meh.

EDIT doesn't help that i die often, losing all XP constantly. Not a fan of the system.

But that's the whole point of playing survival: staying on your toes at all times trying to stay alive. It's what makes the game fun for me, and I love that carrying around something as precious as enchanted gear and XP just makes staying alive all that much more important.

I'd love to play hardcore, and occasionally I do start a HC world, but I always die due to stupid mistakes, lol. I would love it if Minecraft had some kind of persistant HC leaderboard or something, and if the scoring system took a lot more into account. If they ever implement something like that then my life is over.

As survival systems go, Minecraft is lame. I'm looking for mods that make it a better survival experience, and most of all, more fun survival experience. As it is, it is not. Survival is meaningless in this game, for there is no goal. Death penalty is steep, or meaningless, if you don't enchant. EDIT i don't give a crap about Ender Dragon.
Yeah, i know there is a HC mode but i'm a builder as well, and i die most while building, due to this PC version lacking toggle crouch. Laptop keyboard, ctrl is located awkwardly, but i don't have any other good key for that either. Gimme Hardcore Adventure mode and i'll be fine with this.

Was just on the server by myself, exploring Jurassic Park, and bam. "Server restarting..."

I'm starting to think there's a memory leak going on somewhere...

As I was traveling away from my old Nether fort to look for quartz, I found another stronghold. I decided to make a safe passage all the way down to the bottom so I could build next to the fortress.

I have the portal entrance made so far, and the walkway will continue further into the lava for my big base (which will also connect to the fortress). I forgot how fun it is to build in the Nether. I brought a ton of fire resistance potions but it's still so dangerous with the damn ghasts, especially since I like building with fragile materials in the Nether.

Is that a glass dome. In the nether. With ghasts? What could possibly go wrong? :p

hahaha yeah it adds another little touch of stress. I just like building stuff in the Nether with materials you can't get anywhere nearby. Snow blocks in the Nether is pimp status.

I pretty much build exclusively out of cobble and stone bricks in the nether, I like my bases and tunnels safe. Although now that we can smelt nether bricks I'll probably use a lot of that too. I use glass sparingly, because I always end up needing to replace it at some point down the line, lol.

I see Grinchy got some awesome looking shaders stuff going on there...

I just got a new PC and really wanted to get back into Minecraft, and looking even better if possible :P Is it possible to play on the GAF server with those shaders?

Also... someone with enough time to guide me through the shaders installation? :/

Edit: Never mind, got it. I installed the "MagicLauncher" and OptiFine 1.4.6 and ShadersMod with the Sonic Ether (sp?) shaders. But I still don't get the reflections and the water shows black whenever the bottom is more than 3 blocks deep..

Damn Mik, that runs really nicely for you it seems. For me it only runs that smoothly if I'm barely above default resolution lol.

I actually don't like the water from the Sonic Ether shader pack though. Maybe there is a way and I just don't know it yet, but I wish there was a way to disable just the water. I'd rather use default water or a different water shader mod.

Same here. Love the lighting and the way the trees and grass sway, but the water is too clear. Normal water would have been fine.

Don't suppose you have that vid on YouTube? Can't view twitch on my iPad, and the twitch app keeps crashing on me (and never seems to let you find people anyway)

My game runs like shit after the update. Was getting 30fps before now is regularly drops below 15. Sounds like a common problem though, even for powerful computers, so hopefully they work out what the problem is.

Anybody know of any good indie-PC games with a world-building/building rpg element like Minecraft or Terraria?

My computer stopped running Minecraft well about a year and a half ago. :( haven't been able to really play it since. I do have it on my Mac, but it ain't the same.

I've been playing in 1.5 all day today, and although my FPS is just fine, chunk loading is slower than it was in 1.4.7. Noticeably so. Built an awesome mountain base though, now I'm breeding cows to get enough leather to make my enchanting room. I like 1.5 alot so far, the inventory management changes are better than they sounded in game, very handy.

Yeah, I've noticed large chunks of the world not loading in SP until I walk on them. I used to get that a lot in MP - I'm not sure if that's due to how SP is now just a LAN MP game with only one player, or if 1.5 introduced some bugs.

Spent an hour last night recustomizing my Painterly Pack, because the password functionality broke. Gave me a good chance to see all the new shit that I have no idea about the functionality or practicality of!

Big release, always wait for the .1 release a week or so later.

Or if you play multiplayer, wait several weeks for bukkit to update :)

Gives me time to catch up on the new additions via YouTube anyway

First, welcome back Mik :)

Second, how did the shaders affect your FPS rates, even n the new PC? I'm upgrading to a new beast soon and I was wondering that myself.
Hey there! The shaders barely affected my FPS rates. Everything goes really smooth, but on my PC at work it drops to about 15fps or so, and there's a lot of mouse lag so it makes things a bit annoying.. and my PC at work isn't THAT bad...

Oh man, I know my laptop would explode with those shaders, but DAMN.
Yeah, it seems like if your PC is above a certain line, adding this does almost nothing to your FPS (even default Minecraft jitters once every few minutes when loading chunks on my new PC). But things look so nice... :)

Awesome stuff!

Also, surprise! I commandeered your cathedral! (still not done yet)
Hahahaha! Yeah, I was showing this to a friend a few days ago and I was like "yeah man, so there's also this Cathedral I'm working on, but everybody left the area and I have yet to finish it..." and then I saw all the roofs and everything and was like "Damn! :O That's not how I left it!" hahaha ;P But glad you continued on it. It looks really nice!!!

Yeah, not a fan of the water myself either... with the normal water you can easily spot it and even jump down from a cliff in a few seconds just by noticing the blue area. Now you go walking around and it's like "uhm... is that water... or some light issue?" :(

Same here. Love the lighting and the way the trees and grass sway, but the water is too clear. Normal water would have been fine.

Sorry :( Not on Youtube... I was streaming it via twitch.tv and I don't know if I can export the video and upload it to Youtube... :/

J.F.C.

Some people have too much free time, sorry to say.

If I was a lotto winner and didn't have to worry about going to school so I could one day get a job so I could have electricity, internet, shelter, and food, I would play Minecraft all the time and build like that.

And I'd buy a university laboratory supercomputer that could actually run Minecraft well (maybe).

Minecraft should get support for Occulus Rift.

Besides having a beast computer that can run MC decently/with shaders and such, and besides having an infinite amount of free time to play the game, Minecraft in VR is my dream.

Oh shit, that reminds me... is it possible to play Minecraft with a HMD (Head-Mount Display) in 3D? I got the Sony one and would LOVE to play this with the shaders stuff and in 3D on a display that feels like you're watching a 72" screen right in your face...

Has anyone else on OS X Mountain Lion had problems with Feed The Beast no longer working? I cannot get it to launch the game anymore. Every time it gets to the "launching" part it just disappears. I've Googled and tried everything and nothing works. I cannot play it anymore. At all.

No, it doesn't support side by side stereo. Which is silly because it supports anaglyph which means they're doing the necessary calculations

Mojang have a rift so fingers crossed for rift support. They'd need to changed the HUD quite a bit, not sure how the inventory or crafting table would work. I'd also like the mouse to be separated from the head so I can place blocks slightly off center without needing to 'aim' with my head.
