and now, in response to absolutely no one and nothing (except yacobod a wee bit):
tonight I finally watched GSP/Kos 2 for a second time.
That's right. After all of the bullshit, "controversy", bitching and whining after the fight, I deliberately chose to hold off on watching it after being there live for the event.
And now...
Well, I truly and honestly cannot fathom those who propose such a disconnect between how GSP fights pre-Serra I and post-Serra I. In the fight I just watched, I saw very little difference, in essence, in the strategy and aggression shown by GSP against Kos, as opposed to his second fight with Hughes.
A) GSP never goes for the finish with reckless abandon. Standing up, he always presents a varied striking arsenal with all four limbs.
B) He only goes in for the kill when he smells blood in the water. Which he did a couple times in this fight. last minute of round 4, and last few seconds of round 5.
This was the same in 2006 as it is in 2011. The difference in the fights is that GSP respected the wrestling game of Kos more.
Otherwise, no difference. People obsess about the GSP's use of the jab. Yes, it was the difference maker, but it was no crutch. He still used all of his weapons to create openings. The jab. left and right low kicks. Left and right high kicks. Hooks. Crosses. Superman punches with lefts and rights, and combinations of all of the above. The only problem was that Koscheck is a tough son of a bitch who didn't get rocked by anything GSP threw at him, unlike Hughes, Fitch, et al.
In conclusion: GSP has been like a man against boys since Kos I in 2007, and if you hate him now, you should have hated him then, if you're consistent.
I look forward to him kicking the everloving shit out of Jake Shields on April 30 in Toronto, and moving on to the greatest matchup in MMA history against Anderson Silva.
*salutes*
