Much about the draft order remains to be determined, given the impact that qualifying offers will have on the ultimate order. This year, the first 11 picks are protected, meaning that teams cannot lose those picks for signing free agents who have been extended qualifying offers. That means the Cubs, Phillies and Reds have protected picks, while the Marlins, Padres and Rays do not.

i don't know which martin you are referring to. I'd love Lester to come to Chicago, but I think he's going back to Boston.

I don't really want Liriano. I like the current 1-4, if Lester or Scherzer replaced Edwin in the rotation(obviously higher up in the rotation), I'd be happy.

Russell Martin I would guess? Though the Pirates publicly came out and said they'd overpay for him so I don't know why you'd want to go that route.

I think Yankees are the favs. That could change if they want Scherzer instead. Then I would put Chicago because they will out bid the Red Sox for Lester. It would be up to Lester to decide if he would take less to stay in the AL.

I want the Yanks to start rebuilding for the future.

Trade for prospects with cash.

Hell I'm sure the Mets would let the Yanks take all of their young pitching staff if the Yankees payed for their workplace discrimination suits.

or we can tank for a few years which with our aging players looks like it will happen naturally.

Biggest problem with the yankees is the Legends Seating.

They sign 10 year contracts for those seats and the pricing doesn't fluctuate based on performance.

If I paid their prices I'd want them to win and spend every year.

Reports coming out that the Yankees aren't going to spend this FA. But you never know.

Nah, he's an average manager at best. I don't think it's a mistake. I was fine with the devil we knew, and I'm just hoping they don't go hire Ron Washington or something, but I think it'll be good to get a different voice in there.

Blue Jays would like to have Melky Cabrera back, and he likes being a Blue Jay, but the big fear is the market is going to throw so much money at him that Toronto will be outbid with no opportunity to compete.

Baseball economics suck. It's just not fair. And there's a handful of markets that are happy to continue to ensure that it remains unfair.

They're looking to move RyHo? Who'd take him at this point, unless the Phillies pay his salary I can't see anyone wanting him.

ah.... now that the thread isn't tainted with jeter themes I won't have to feel dirty posting and talking baseball with people again :p

Anyways I think both Sox this off season will be interesting to watch as the Red sox have quite a bit to do to right their team being only the third team to go from winning the world series to coming in last in their division the next year (if my info was correct :p) and the white sox have a lot of money coming off the books and quite a bit of talent to build around (the obvious two pieces being built around are abreu and sale) The free agent list looks pretty sad though :/
