Oh snap, I just saw the Yu Darvish news. I didn't expect him to come to the MLB for while yet. It's going to be a joy watching him play, even if it's for the Rangers.

Quentin's a free agent after 2012. Not really a bad deal. White Sox needed to do some blowing up. After having such a shit year with that payroll, something had to give.
Good deal for the Padres though. Unless they have a shocking year like 2010, they can likely spin Quentin to someone at the trade deadline.

I don't know if I'd call this a great deal. It's not like Quentin has been super productive recently, and he's going to Petco.

I met the guy, got a picture with him. A REAL PICTURE. Mora was one of the very few bright spots on the O's in the early 2000's. Loved watching him play D.

Someone in the Yankees organization said Scott Boras is looking for a 5-year, $60 million deal for Edwin Jackson.
Of course he is, he's calling him better than Darvish in his pitch books.

Boras needs to start representing NBA players. Imagine how he would be able to bamboozle the collective morons that make up NBA front offices. He could probably get Luke Walton a max contract.

If John Danks got 5/65 then Edwin Jackson should get 5/60. Boras is outrageous, but 5/60 isn't the most extreme stance he's ever taken. Jackson is a good pitcher, and signing a free agent pitcher always involves paying a premium.

Just saw Moneyball and really enjoyed it and I have a few questions. I see you guys are in the off season so I hope I'm not derailing by asking!
Got some questions;
1) How close is this to the real life events. (eg, Did Kansas really come back? Did Beane and the team manager really disagree so much and does that kinda thing happen often? Were players really axed in that way? Just generally how much liberty did they take with the truth.)
2) How has this effected baseball since? I imagine it must have been quite significantly. I know the Red Sox won using a similar strategy, has anybody else done the same?
3) How the hell do baseball teams play so frequently!?
