Man my teams all suck

Jets are awful, the Knicks stink. On topic, the Mets are just going to be awful. I'm still stinging after the loss of my favorite player of all-time Jose Reyes (like him without the dreads, reminds me of the good ole days of 2006).

The NL East is going to be a great division to watch. The Phillies are still the favorites but I think the Braves, Marlins, and even the Nationals have a chance. I did not think this was possible, but top to bottom the Marlins may have better pitching than the Phillies. The Mets are, by far, the worst team in the division. We're paying Santana 20+ million to be maybe the 5th best pitcher in the divison LOL. Oh, and Jason Bay haha

Anyway, will be a fun season for anybody who's not a Mets fan.
I go Yankees- Colts-Knicks

I can't wait for baseball. Just two weeks left for pitcher's and catchers!

y2kev are you ok? post again if you're ok

Do you still find older baseball Giants fans in NY that often or most moved on?

seeing as im the only one here that probably leaves his house - yes, there are still giants stalwarts that i've met in the past, they're all not quite dead yet.

I really just think it's a function of the former three being around a lot longer than the latter three. A lot of Yankees/Giants fans (well the non-bandwagon ones anyway) are such because it's heavily ingrained in their culture, what with both teams being fixtures of that area for years and years. Hell, the Rangers and an Original Six team after all.

Actually while that explains the first three that doesn't quite explain why the latter are usually bunched together, but I imagine it can be a combination of additional factors like geography and whatnot. Maybe a form of recency bias among those who aren't already on the traditional bandwagon?

This is how it is for me. I'm not from NY, I live in Indiana, so I don't actually have a home team when it comes to baseball, but I grew up on the Yankees. My family has been Yankee fans for as long as I can remember. Most people around here are fans of either of the Chicago teams since they are the closest "local" team.

I was at a buddies house last night for the Superbowl, and ended up playing on his roommates Vita most of the night. Barely watched the game.

After it was over, I said "Finally, Superbowl only means one thing to me. Spring Training starts soon."

I never received so many mean stares in my life.

Oh, and making room for that 11th Championship Flag!

I haven't seen or found any. One of my professors is a Brooklyn Dodgers fan and is still bitter as hell about them moving to LA.

I remember my economics teacher in high school on Long Island (twenty years ago) said he stopped watching baseball after the Dodgers moved. Definitely a lot of bitterness in that generation, haha.

NY fandom is kind of geographic but I grew up on LI as a Yankees/Islanders/Jets(ish) fan--we weren't a huge football family though. I suppose I "should" have been a Mets fan but Yankee fandom went back two or three generations in my family. Lord knows I felt like an oppressed minority in school on Long Island as a Yanks fan in the '80s though. It was almost as bad as California!

I feel your pain, fellow Mets fan, but raise it with 25 years of Buffalo Bills fandom.

Anyway, yeah the Mets are gonna suck this year. But the farm is getting stronger, and I will still enjoy watching Duda and Davis grow.

The human element!

I'd suspect that umps make 98% of their calls correctly, maybe more than that. It's that 1-2% where your team gets unlucky that it sucks... but hey, if it's someone else's team, it's usually worth a good laugh!

(I support the human element)

I learned to accept the human element quickly after Denkinger's blown call at 1B.

But that Pirates/Braves .gif is shake your head worthy.

Jeremy Guthrie traded from Orioles to Rockies for Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom.

So I guess the Rockies filled their need for a fly ball pitcher in Coors and the Orioles got the burnt out relievers they were hoping for.

Wait, what?

That's correct if you count easy plays like a pop fly or a routine grounder. I'm be shocked it it's more than 80% on close plays. If it's more than 66% when you add balls and strikes I'd be floored.

Anibal Sanchez won his arbitration case with the Marlins. He will get paid $8 million in 2012 instead of the $6.9 million the Marlins offered.

I, for one, am stoked for baseball. I have faith that this will be the Twins year and 2011 will just be a bad nightmare. Blind faith some say, naivety others say. I say Win Twins!

1-2% is unacceptable. We have the technology to get 99.99999999% of the calls right.

Franchise improvements for The Show.

MLB 12 The Show Franchise Mode Improvements
Posted by Aaron Luke // Designer, MLB 12 The Show

Next up on our MLB 12 The Show developer blog tour is our Franchise mode and the improvements coming to players this year. One of our goals going into this development cycle was to enhance the trade logic for CPU teams to better mimic their real-life counterparts. In order to do so, we had to examine the current system and identify the faults to then build and improve upon it. This year we are considering more factors in each trade offer, with the end result being more realistic trades. Teams are valuing their rosters much higher this year, and they aren’t going to ship out prospects so easily, nor will they offer up too many players to fill a positional void. You’ll also see more trades that better suit the teams’ current strategies (i.e. playoff push vs. rebuilding strategies).

Another addition to the trades system is the interface itself. We’ve revamped the trade screen to bring you more detailed information about the players involved and the likelihood of the trade offer being accepted. All of this is aimed at providing more information to help you make sound moves. Here’s a look at this feature on PS Vita. As we’ve said from the start, MLB 12 The Show on PS Vita will utilize all of the core gameplay features found in the PS3 version, and this is no different here!

I know there’s a lot of interest out there about our PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita integration this year so I wanted to make sure I touched on our Cross-Platform Saves functionality. This feature allows you to take your Franchise, Season, and Road to The Show save files up to the cloud where you can then access those files from either your PS3 or PS Vita. You are limited to one file per mode per PSN user account, which can be overwritten as many times as you’d like.

Moving on to other areas of change, we’ve gone back through the player generation logic to bring you more realistic skill sets for the CPU generated players. You will now see more authentic pitch repertoires, with velocities to match, and less overall balanced players (more speedsters, good hitting/average, below average fielding, etc.).

After addressing the player generation issues, we dove into the team lineups and how they slot players. We’ve come up with a more accurate system that better mimics real Major League lineups. This enhancement is carried throughout all of our season-based modes, including Franchise, Season, and Road to The Show. Once again, here’s what this feature will look like on your PS Vita screen!

After we addressed the important player logic issues, we looked at areas of the user interface to further improve your Franchise experience. The Franchise home menu has been enhanced, bringing you more team and league content, including…adding in your next game information, displaying the current standings, and showing you the current league leaders for batting and pitching. These additions aren’t limited to the Major League ball club, and are also accessible to your Triple-A and Double-A teams.

One last interface area we expanded upon was the player card. We’ve revamped the display to bring you more content in a sleeker package. The player card is also now available during games. You can access a player’s card in any game screen that allows you to highlight that player.

As you can see a lot of focus has been placed on improving the Franchise mode experience this year, enhancements that can be found on both PS3 and PS Vita! Don’t forget, MLB 12 The Show for PS3 and PS Vita will be hitting store shelves in just a few weeks on March 6th. Be sure to keep an eye on the PlayStation Blog and TheShowNation.com for more information in the coming days and weeks on this year’s game.

For those who didn't read the articles Windu posted: the Braves are moving their red, home alternate jerseys to Friday games and will wear the new, cream-colored, home alternate jerseys during Saturday and Sunday games.

I'm probably showing my age here, but, does anyone else miss the shorter pants with stirrups? I know I do. I really dislike these extra long pants in today's uniforms.

I thought I ought to pass along this bit of news, so all of you have a sense of what the blog will and won’t be this coming year, and why that is.

Since taking over the LoHud Mets Blog in March 2011, I have been credentialed numerous times by the New York Mets-100 percent of the time my editor here, Sean Mayer, has requested credentials. This is nothing new. In my years covering sports, I have been credentialed by every major sports team in the New York area, writing for ESPN.com, The New York Times, New York Magazine, The New York Observer, and many other outlets.

So it was odd that last week, Sean received a call from Jay Horwitz, the Director of Media Relations for the New York Mets, telling him that while the Journal News can continue to receive credentials, the Mets would not be credentialing me.

Sean asked why that was, and Jay responded that the Mets “don’t like my reporting”
. The team declined to respond to my multiple attempts to reach them for a fuller explanation.

Just when you thought the Mets couldn't be any more pathetic and irrelevant. Blacklisting reporters because you don't like what they write? Pathetic.
