I thought this article was a good read, especially if you're curious about fighter financials.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ntender-aljamain-sterlings-free-agency-gamble

tl;dr: Top 5 bantamweight made $63k gross wage (before distributing expense to fight camp, manager, and taxes) in 2015. Wants to make 40/40 per fight (show/win). UFC offered 24/24 before letting his manager know he should test the open market.

This kids talented. I hope UFC does the right thing and gives him a fair contract.

COKER PLEASE

Former Pride Grand Prix Champion and 12 fight UFC vet Wanderlei Silva was released today from his UFC contract. Silva last fought in March 2013, knocking out Brian Stann in the 2nd round of a Fuel TV show from Japan. He was then scheduled to fight Chael Sonnen in a fight stemming off the two of them coaching on TUF Brazil. The fight was put off several times due to injuries and then drug testing issues with both fighters.

Nik Lentz issues statement in response to B.J. Penn's callout (via MMAfighting.com)

"BJ,
I received your poorly-worded, utterly predictable, message. In spite of its clumsy structure, awful spelling, incorrect usage (you state at one point that I wrote a poem about you making fun of yourself), and general air of arrogance, entitled stupidity, I'm considering your request.

There are, of course, some conditions.

- I'm never competing at 145 ever again. Neither should you. I came to this conclusion after doing careful research, and deciding what was right for my long-term health as well as my short-term performance. If you fight at 145, it won't be long before you're eating banana mush in a nuthouse. I am accountable to my family, and my future with them. Because you are an impulsive tyrant surrounded by yes-men, you have no ability to make rational, intelligent decisions. So I am making this one for you. If we fight, it would be at 155.

- I'm not fighting in March. Neither are you. You may imagine you are, and the imbeciles you surround yourself with may nod in agreement like the trained dogs they are, but you aren't fighting in March. You've lied to your fans, and let them down over and over, and nobody is clamoring to put the BJ PENN EXCUSE FACTORY back in business. Were I to agree to fight you in March and whup your ass, it would only give you and your lackeys the "BJ didn't have enough time" bullshit excuse. Additionally, if we do fight, it will be on MY timetable, NOT yours. You are retired, and have no schedule. I am an active fighter, on the roster, with a schedule and training platform that is not beholden to your desires, grudges, or need for narcissistic supply.

- You still owe Mike Dolce $22,000. Knowing him, he is too gracious and dignified a man to revisit the traitorous back-stabbing skullduggery you engaged in with him after the third time Frankie Edgar kicked your ass inside-out. I, however, don't have the luxury of grace, and dignity is best left out of any exchange that includes you. You will donate $22,000 of your purse to the HAWAII DOG FOUNDATION, a no-kill, all-volunteer rescue organization working hard to rescue and rehabilitate dogs in Hawaii, in Mike Dolce's name.

Give these conditions some thought. They are non-negotiable. They are rules you WILL abide by, or you can go whistle. I have a contract, and plenty of guys to fight. As a Narcissist, you have nothing but an image. And you NEED attention. You have all the money you could ever spend; but it doesn't satisfy you. I have what you NEED. I'M in charge. You can do what narcissists usually do when confronted by a higher power; SLINK AWAY. Or you can confront your needs, realize I can fulfill them, and come to terms with me, looming over you, holding the....

WHIP HAND.

I'm ALREADY in charge, you poor, deluded, fool. I did more to motivate you with TWO POEMS than all your yes-men, and titles, and highlights could.
Get as angry as you want. Go out behind your huge inherited estate and kick rocks. Go cry to your Mommy. Go shit in your hat and bark at the moon.
You want to fight?
Then it's on MY terms.
FACE IT.

Now run along, little man. Go find a way to swallow your overarching pride and do it MY way, or scuttle about like a deformed crab at low tide, like a masochist at last call, desperately looking for somebody else to thrash you.

You can go to Greg Jackson's, you can go to Jermaine Jackson's, you can listen to Mahalia Jackson, you can resurrect Jackson fuckin' POLLOCK to paint you a better picture of yourself than the one we all see; but...

You're an unclaimed, busted-down suitcase on a dusty shelf in an abandoned bus-terminal. Accept my conditions, or rot in obscurity.

Nik Lentz
Your BOSS"

Looking at the normal output of a UFC contracted "athlete" and ignoring some of the last parts of the letter, this one gets a favorable nod and a solid 7/10.

Oh man, been so busy with work I thought the Killashaw fight was tonight.

Guess i'm watching Invicta to see Cyborg annihilate another poor soul.

is cyborg at 135 tonight?

No, last I heard she was staying at 145.

Edit:

Justino, who spoke to MMA Fighting on Thursday, ruled out a move to the bantamweight division but entertained the idea of a 140 lbs. catchweight fight with Holly Holm.

"No more 135," Cyborg said. "Superfight? Yeah. I think that's fair. Somebody can go up a little bit, I'll go down a little bit. She's (Holly Holm) the champ and if she says she wants fight me, then we can fight. I think it's good for women's MMA if we can fight. She knows I cannot go to 135, it's too hard."

She weighs 164 lbs today.

Catchweight at 140 for the 135 belt is a terrible idea. Why would the UFC ever want a champ that can never make weight?

It probably wouldn't be for a belt considering she can't make the division weight. Only way I see it happening is if they bring her over and make a 145 division and let Holly go for two belts, otherwise I doubt we see that fight.

which is why ronda took a misstep not agreeing to the cyborg fight, calleing her out, and then laying the blame at the UFC's feet for the fight never happening

Nah. If Ronda agreed, Dana would find a way to make it happen. He wouldn't leave that money on the table like that.

That's exactly what she did though, she sat at 135 saying she'd fight Cyborg if she could drop down to that weight knowing she'd never be able to.

Now we have a real champion saying she's open to fight Cyborg at 145 if the UFC would provide the division, something Ronda never did because she knew she'd lose.

That's.. one way of looking at it.

Ronda had more to lose than Holm does because despite the hype Holm has gotten in beating Ronda.. she's still unproven. She's just as likely to lose to any of the top Wrestling-based 135ers as she is to lose to Cyborg.

Edit: And let's not play the game. Cyborg wants to win that 135 belt without doing what's necessary to hit 135. Holm's just taking a different tactic than outright denying the fight because the UFC making an entire 145 division essentially for one fight is pretty damn out there.

Invicta fighters waiting around in the cage because the one ambulance on call isn't back yet. Bad MMA never die.

Just found out Spike got moved to a higher/seperate program package in Comcast. No more Bellator for me I guess. :(

Did it happen again? And for Invicta no less?

Just a random (drunk) idea that popped in my head, would you be down with a CM Punk vs Joe Rogan fight? Not sure about their weight classes, but I'd buy a PPV if that was the main event.

Joe Rogan would legit kill CM Punk within 30 seconds. It wouldn't even be remotely fair for Punk.

But Uncle Joe already killed that idea unless it was on the sketchiest Indian casino possible:

If the UFC really wanted to go full carny with CM Punk, then they should get Jason David Frank.

Did Joe have to have TJ's dick surgically removed from his throat after the Cruz fight? Cause the way Joe was calling it youd swear TJ had been in there doing nothing but flexing in front of a mirror for 5 rounds.

I think it was near the end of the 5th round where Cruz lit TJ up with a big 3 punch combo and Joe said 'Beautiful combo from TJ'. I had to rewind just to make sure I heard that right. It's fights like that where it seems close until you watch it again with the sound muted. If Joe has a bias towards someone he really influences it for the audience.

I remember having to watch UFC events in Taiwan with the sound off because my headphones were busted and my girlfriend was sleeping (Taiwan is around 12 hours ahead of the USA's East Coast). To put it simply, it's a whole different experience - for better and for worse.

Better: All your attention is focused on the fight and by doing so it's much easier to see who's winning.
Worse: Like it or not, Goldie and Rogan are a core part of the UFC experience. Not hearing their voices during a fight can be really odd. It also makes boring fights noticeably more boring.

Yeah, there were a couple times earlier in the fight where he said the wrong name and corrected himself. I know the exact time you're talking about in the fifth, because I was expecting him to say something like "oh, sorry, Cruz". TJ hit a leg kick and Cruz hit him with a solid 4 punch combo in return.

I thought Cruz won 1, 2, and 5. I can't remember which right now, but one of 3-4 was pretty close as well. TJ wasn't gun shy in the worst sense, but he wasn't throwing combos and was missing far too often because of it.

It's easy to see how Cruz has fucked those knees up though. God damn.

I caught that too! I was watching on an app so I couldn't rewind but I thought maybe I saw that wrong.

Haha yeah, i remember that part. I just couldnt reconcile what i was seeing with what i was hearing. And Joe just wouldnt shut the fuck up about Cruz' leg. Like Cruz was lighting TJ up with combos all Joe could say was "oh TJ hurt him mike, that leg kick really hurt him". Just ask him to fucking marry you already, Joe
