Pettis vs Barboza official. thank god the DC vs Jones card has something other than DJ vs Cejudo.

Two of the best strikers in mixed martial arts will square off at UFC 197 on April 23, as former lightweight champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis takes on Edson Barboza in a surefire Fight of the Night candidate at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 197 is headlined by the light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones and the flyweight title fight pitting Demetrious Johnson against Henry Cejudo.

Seeking a return to the win column after losses to Rafael Dos Anjos and Eddie Alvarez, Milwaukee's Pettis gets the striking matchup he's wanted against Muay Thai master Barboza, who has logged back-to-back Fight of the Night bonuses in bouts against Paul Felder and Tony Ferguson.
edit: wait I thought Cejudo said he wouldn't fight in Vegas?

He said until Diaz legal trouble had been resolved and it has been.

His fine and suspension were reduced to something more reasonable.

Lol just saw that Rothwell opened as a -125 favorite over JDS. What year is this??

Rothwell is on a tear, and he's a tank. Dos Santos seems to be a shot fighter at this point; he's got a ton of wear and tear on him. I think those are fair odds, not too wide because Dos Santos is a hard puncher.

Like an older white person listening and singing to Can't Be Touched" by Roy Jones it doesn't feel right but you can't take your eyes away from it.

official police report filed against BJ by that bjpenn.com exwriter and his "playboy model" gf. his comeback has been postponed. BJ should have paid the guy to shut up like other rich sexual assault suspects.

Uh oh - shenanigans in the works for the Kimbo/Dada fight? Looks like Kimbo is gonna take a dive if this source in an mmamania article is to be trusted:

"Spoke to manager at LV Sportsbook in Vegas, betting line for Kimbo Slice moved from -360 to pick today. According to book manager, 'three to four guys' walked in and bet the limit about 20 times. 'Just kept firing on the dog over and over.' For a Bellator fight, LV Sportsbook has taken in 'an unheard of amount of money' according to the manager. Another round of bets on Dada5000 by same 3-4 individuals at LV Superbook takes the Slice line back to a pick-em right now. Wow."

I had no clue that Bas Rutten and Ranallo had joined the podcast game.

More Bas stories is always a good thing
Thanks, I'm gonna try to listen to this.

I was going to listen to Bas on Joe Rogan's podcast, but I made it about 5 minutes in (not counting the 20 minutes of commercials at the start), and all Joe did was ask one of his flunkies to pull up pictures of Randleman's staph infection and talk about Randleman's "beautiful black body" like he was Donald Sterling or something. Seriously, Joe, you must've had a couple Randleman stories to share. At the very least, you could've asked Bas to tell a few. stupid little twerp.

I guarantee that JDS destroys Rothwell. Barnett was killing him on the feet. Big Ben leaves himself wide open which is not a good idea to do against somebody vs JDS. Ben is super slow and doesn't have the technical striking that Overeem and Stipe have to neutralize him.

Bet the house on Jr

Why is it that a lot of MMA fans are pro wrestling fans?

What is it about MMA that drew that crowd after WWE collapsed into itself?

It just seems like a vastly different product when I think about it but strangely similar.

Pride was also very pro wrestling oriented.

Even guys like Meltzer cover both now and there is a lot of crossover these days.

Just seemed like a casual natural evolution for me while I still read up on WWE every now and then. Mostly if not all for non kayfabe backstage politics.

I remember my uncle getting me and my cousin a random UFC VHS to watch where I was just disgusted by Tra Telligman's missing pecs/ribcage (?). Didn't watch it again till about the time Mark Coleman won that HWGP. Completely got engaged once I watched a bunch of Fedor and CroCop highlights on YouTube.

I'm tanking for Kabanov!
Meltzers been covering MMA forever.

Spike putting the Ultimate Fighter after Raw brought in a decent amount of wrestling fans and Brock brought in a lot more during his run.

Meltzer's covered it for at least a decade. You could say they, you, and everybody would have never been able to predict the sheer level of success MMA would have and be right, but still, UFC and PRIDE were big by even the most minor standards around the early 2000s to the point people covering boxing and wrestling had to easily notice. Then just when you think it was finally going to ease up a bit, Ultimate Fighter happened.
