Sometimes its on rails, sometimes its more open. It works, who cares. I think everything is smooth transitioning. Just push up on the d pad if you don't know where to go or follow main quest. The game opens up more later on.
That’s never been MH in the past. And it sucks that it’s in this game. The combat feels awesome. It’s literally everything else that sucks in this game, when compared to the great games in the series recent past.

The game feels absolutely dumbed down so my 2 year old could make her way to the monster just by letting the chocobo autopilot it you where you need to go.

Ok, but why does it suck? You can't gather as much during a story section? I think it is awkward and not intuitive but doesn't have a huge effect on the experience for me, but I'm early on.

Because it’s MH. I need to collect spider webs, sleep herbs, ivy, etc. in order to build up a supply for the tools I need to craft. The vast majority of resources you need can’t be purchased. So, I should be able to walk off the path to collect some stuff, like we have on story quests in the past. There’s a cooldown for when resources can be collected.

ok, well if it is amounting to a lot of missed gathers, I agree that sucks. It hasn't for me yet and I have ample materials but I'm early and not fully aware of everything. Once you complete the story, does the on rails gating stop?

Best character in the game.
You obviously haven’t seen this thing:

So do you guys agree with some of the reviews that said there isn't really a really to grind for gear? And that it lacks the "hunting heart" of World?
I’m still early on, but I haven’t “needed” to upgrade my gear. I do though. I don’t think I’ve gone below 50% of my health in a fight yet. I think with the player being more powerful, the “need” to grind has gone down. But you shouldn’t be grinding until at the end game. At least that’s my experience with the series in the past. The story is just a very long/stupid tutorial. The real monster fights come after it.

I think the story should be optional, like with CoD. I only care about hunting monsters. Not whatever the fuck is happening with that kid and his loser tribe.
I only cared about the Monster stuff and anything involving Felyne or WudWud antics. The stories direction takes a 360 at the midpoint and most of it just seemed redundant and low stakes until the final stretch. Kind of felt like a scrapped Dragon's Dogma subplot at best. Player character is depicted as a Paragon of Hunters at every opportunity and I feel like the game is easy to illustrate that you are super special amazing at all times. Many comment it's like you've done this many times before. Especially with Jin Dahaad.

From my perspective the biggest threat to the Ecosystem is the Hunter.

So far (HR 35 or so) I haven't really needed to upgrade my gear. It's been more of something I enjoy doing and that's the reason I play, rather than this boss does crazy fire damage I better wear good fire defense armor.

Now while I'm on the side that thinks the game is easier overall than World, I do think World wasn't that much more difficult in HR. Some Elder Dragons and Tempered Bezel or Tempered Jho were some of the tougher fights if I remember correctly. I also don't think it really needs to be that much more difficult, at least not currently.

I do, however, think there needs to be more exploration and non gear stuff that you can work towards. Like upgrading camps, your tent, etc.

the more I think about it, the more I believe they'll give us a "true" Zoh Shia fight in the future and give us a set of it's armors and weapons. the fight we got is so nice but nothing at all after that? they can't be making a whole monster without giving us something more later on down the road.

well, now we know why PC preformance is so disappointing for so many players.

TLDR: game rushed out to match projected company revenue.
I don't think what the guy says holds water, yes he might be right about meeting sales targets, but lets not forget that MHW had a delayed release for pc and didn't run great either, so we can't really say that delaying it would've made it much better.

Enjoyed all the new monster designs especially the spider enemies and the flagship Arkveld looks sick with its chain arms, love that rey dau can transform its head to shoot out a 1 shot kill railgun, the octopus enemy and the weird skull shaped xu du were a nice addition and I enjoyed fighting them.

I am going to keep playing because I do enjoy the hunts and hoping for cool events but gotta say it does not feel like a true sequel to worlds the open world is a nice idea but they sacrificed to much for it. I miss the gathering hubs and whose bright idea was it to get rid of the personal chef? I gotta cook my own food now that's bs. I miss the grandma feline that would cook for you.

I don’t how the hell you guys finish the game this fast….i’m still not done with LR.
I’m sitting here watching a cutscene with a boy crying about monsters duking it out. This is the slowest paced game I’ve played in a while.

The combat has been awesome. I just wish I could ditch this campaign. I’ll take boards with quest numbers. I’ll take non moving NPC’s over this. Yeah, I can’t fathom HR100. It feels like Monster Hunter in a fish tank.

What time is it?
I kinda like where the story is going with whole artificially created monsters.

THIS. The amount of quirk and charm removed is really disappointing. The core of fighting monsters is super fun but all the trappings around it feel underutilized, half thought out, rushed, or some combination thereof.

Cleared the main story (LR)

They really could have paced it a lot better. 75% of the story basically nothing happened, then they were like oh shit all of a sudden we need to finish this game huh

The last 10% of the story was pretty hype in that general JRPG kind of way. It felt like the story writers played through every JRPG of the last 20 years and wanted to make a tribute to the stories of all those games

As of this moment, Steam says 57.6% of players have cleared the main story. So over half of players have seen the main story to the end, that's pretty good for a AAA title in 2025. If we assume numbers on consoles are similar, over 4.6 million players have cleared the main story out the 8 million sold in the first 3 days of release

Holy fucking shit they brought back Ebony Odogaron and we have another Cephalopod Xu Wu, that was nice surprise.

My only disappointment is I wish they give us the Iceborne version for Ebony Odogaron armor set.

I mean capcpom has already announced that as part of ...

Title Update 1 – A Place to Gather!

A new place to meet, communicate, have meals together and more with other hunters will be added to #MHWilds in TU1!

This area will be available to hunters who have completed the main story, so get hunting and be ready!

So it sounds like 1) the gathering hub is coming back, obviously, and 2) you and your friends will be able to eat meals together there, and presumably someone will be cooking for you, which, in my opinion, makes it even better than before when everyone had to eat separately.

It's not like capcom doesn't know how much people love the felynes. They specifically mentioned in an interview that they were surprised by how much people loved them in world and made an extra effort to give more of them more personality and flair in wilds.

This game was pushed out the door to meet investor expectations. That's not going to stop it from becoming one of the best games the series has ever seen. Let's not forget that World also launched on Steam to mixed reviews, most people having to play the game solo because multiplayer kept disconnecting, and overall poor performance. I remember my 1080ti getting shredded by MHW at launch. I couldn't do 4k anywhere close to 60fps. There were only 30 monsters and almost nothing to do. No siege quests. No augmentations. Now it's largely considered the best game in the series, with an absolutely insane amount of content, monsters, event quests, etc.

My best recommendation for people that are feeling like Wilds is lacking - get your fill for now, and then take a break for a while. There are a ton of great games coming out. Come back in a year. The charm, the quirkiness, the content you're looking for is coming; I promise.

Hit hard, kill fast.

One of my end game builds I'm working on optimizing slightly further.

Watching an expert LS is a beautiful thing. Out of curiosity, does anyone have a monster they struggled with in the beginning and now completely dominates?

I remember in the beta fighting Arkveld and I was like holy shit I'm never going to get a grip on this guy. Now he can barely hit me.

I always leave my quests set for 2 people and sometimes, another person jumps in. I generally find 4 people to be way too much going on, and the game is easy enough as it is. Also, with only 2 people I’ve found there’s a much higher chance that someone who knows that they are doing will join as there’s no “hiding in the crowd” if they are fucking around or carting left and right.

I’ve always played a bit with a few friends for some sessions, but the vast majority of my time is spent solo in recent MH games.

Solo it just better experience for me, I did Fatalis, Alatreon and even Behemoth solo. I’m not a team player and I just don't like the idea relying on other people.
