I'm not offended by it. I just found it surprising because I thought I'd have to finds tracks, scents, etc. You just open the map and the monster is wandering around, or the game gives you a pop-up indicating the monster is around. It we want to get pissy, game should be called Auto-Hunter.
It used to be different in the earlier games, monsters weren't marked on the map automatically, you had to find them and then mark them with a paintball which would wear off after some time, it was possible to lose the monster and then have to find where it went

That’s funny, my friend loved hammer in world and he vehemently hates it in Wilds. I don’t ever use it so I don’t have an opinion but it’s funny how some people love and hate the same weapons.
I can probably pin point why he doesn't like the hammer in wilds.

Slope rolling attack are harder to get and do less damage, before when i saw a slope it was spin to win time, now i almost prefer bonking normally because the characters take a while to enter the slide state, the number of spins are lower and the damage seems to be lower.

Before you had 2 sets of attack because you had the power state that change the moveset and now it is gone, rise had even more stances.

The big bang attack does way less damage so it is not useful anymore, unless you just love the animation, sometimes i just use the 4 small bonks to get into the new charged move but it is not ideal.

The style now seems to push you into using the new charge move as much as you can making the gameplay maybe less varied.

Hammer definitely feel more fluid and the move with circle to get away or close distance while keeping the charge is a godsend but some things were better in world\rise hammer.

I guess that many people have a favourite version of a weapon and it's hard to get used to a new version, i was a lance main in world and absolutely hated the lance in rise with its stupid ass charged slap style and wirebug moves that were everything but precise (and lance users love precision).

Wilds steps it up by removing any of the charm or quirk usually found in the other games. The writing and dialog are Avowed levels of terrible.
I find the whole thing stupidly endearing.

But then again, monster movies are my favourite movie genre so a 15 hours story about big monsters is definitely my jam, no matter how stupid it is :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Also, i really like alma:lollipop_squinting:
I didn't liked any characters in avowed so that's an improvement :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Started using the bow, as I'm getting a bit bored of Hunting Horn and LBG kinda sucks.

Do you have to aim with L2 all the time? Because I've seen vids of players using the bow 'from the hip', but for some reason I can't seem to lock on target.

Not that I mind, because I'm really digging it the way I'm using the bow rn, but it would be nice to be able to fire from the hip.

Change focus mode to toggle, use R2+Square to use the "aim bot Arrow", use R2+Triangle to apply coat, profit.

Dont forget to time your dodge to gain more coating meter.

Use a piercing bow for more damage.

Bow combo:

S+S+S+T+side step+S+T ( repeat until out of staminia )

I finally getting the hang of offset counter with Hammer and it’s soooooooo satisfying.

Man Hammer in Wilds is super fun.

Despite most people in GAF is shitting on this game (as usual) I’m having so much fun here.

So I never used Hammer in previous MHs, but for Wilds I decided to do so. It's terribly fun knocking monsters out with it all the time.

Have no idea what an "offset counter" is, though. I need to watch some Hammer guide videos.

The bashing seems way more effective in Wilds than the previous games. I’m absolutely wrecking shit with my Sword & Shield. And I haven’t even like messed around with armor/skills yet.

I always use the BBQ split via the quick wheel then in the middle of combat I forget to switch the wheel back. So then I'm trying to heal and pull out my fishing rod.

Monster obviously takes this as showing off and goes Super Saiyan after.

Sword and shield are great. I can't imagine playing with a slow weapon and massive wind up. I'm on monsters like glue.

It’s defaulted on a separate wheel. I just forget to go back to my normal combat wheel that has traps, bombs and tranqs.
Oh ok, i think i only used the main wheel and the one with the social messagges.

Oh and btw, the hammer not being able to make people fly with the uppercut anymore is top grade BULLSHIT, i loved making people mad at the emd of the hunt in the old games and it was useful in combat to launch people and get mountings more often :messenger_pensive:

I got the controls down now but I dunno, I honestly don't see what makes this series so hyped. Combat is mindless so far, it's easy, game is balls ugly, story is offensive in how shallow and mundane it is.

I'm having a bit of fun but people putting 2k hours into this, WTH is there to even do? I'll probably put 50 hours max, delete the game and never consider the series ever again. I should have bought DD2, I figured Wilds would scratch a coop itch, didn't realize I'd be getting one of the most vanilla games I've ever played. I have advised my coop buddies to not even consider the game.

I played through the entire story and didn't even know there was an offset counter mechanic. I just watched a really quick youtube video and it seems like there is one combo that you can hold the last swing indefinitely, and release at the exact time a monster attacks for a stun. It honestly seems quite overpowered if you are good with rhythm and timing of fights.

This kind of explains why every once in a while I would have weird combo delays when fighting, I think I was accidentally triggering the offset.

Finally jumped in last night and it took my close to two hours to finally get past the stupid frog due to all the crashes. First solution I saw was disable frame gen but that didn't do anything for me. It's not a hardware issue, but the game seems really poorly optimized.

It’s new mechanic in Wilds that not all weapon can use.

So basically with Hammer use overhead smash combo (triangle button) and at end of combo that goes to uppercut swing, you need time that when monster is about to attack you.

The great thing is you can delay that uppercut swing by holding triangle so you can time when monster is about to attack.

Holy shit, you’re paying attention to the story!?
Monster movies are my favourite genre and when i was a child i played with monsters and dinosaurs insted of lego, so a 15 hours story about monsters is kinda my jam.

It's a bad story and charas are as deep as a puddle but i still kinda enjoy it, i would love if it was more about the creatures and not about fucking nata and his village tho.

And the hunter has some cool one liners.

The best thing about the story was the intro cutscenes to monsters.

Too bad capcom cheaped out and a lot of monsters outside of the campaign don't have a cutscene...

Gypseros
Rathian
Rathalos
White monkey
Rock dragon

Probably more since i didn't discovered every monster yet.

I think they don’t put cutscenes for returning monsters.
Absolutely retarded if you think that they made everythingi n their power to make the game the most friendly for new player so all these monsters are new for them.

And blanconga wasn't in world andi think no rise aswell?
