underrated: galactic attack/layer section. one of the greatest 2d shooters ever.
dark10x said:Hell yeah, awesome game. I wish the Saturn version included all of the parallax backdrops from the arcade release, though. Then again, there is much less slowdown on Saturn, so it all evens out...
drohne said:TATE! it's only missing effects in the horizontal screen mode.
ourumov said:Banjo Kazooie is the father of the modern 3D platfforming game. Sure Mario 64 appeared before but I still consider it pretty singular and unique (let's say unrivalled).
Jack & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, even Sly Racoon owe a lot to Banjo.
I think it is one of the latest good games from Rare, along Goldeneye, DKR and Conker. (not talking about disgraces like Perfect Dark, Banjo Tooie or their 128 bit efforts).
drohne said:overrated: well, there are dozens of excellent candidates. but i'm going to say panzer dragoon saga. lovely visuals and music. has the decency not to stick around for 50 hours. otherwise dull, and certainly nowhere near as good as the shooters.
underrated: galactic attack/layer section. one of the greatest 2d shooters ever. virtuoso pixel art and level design. and it's domestically available. for peanuts. just buy this instead of selling your soul for radiant silvergun.
You deserve to die.
ourumov said:Sure. I'll play a bit of Perfect Dark.
jarrod said:I'll go by platform, keeping it to domestic releases too... and all this is in regards to GAF rather than the *real* world...
Most Overrated
PS1~R4: Ridge Racer Type 04 (the worst Ridger Racer ever! Rage Racer eats it alive)
N64~Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (broken Super Metroid-lite seems to have runied this franchise, how I long for something comparable to Castlevania III)
Sat~Dark Savior (what a pile of shit)
Most Underrated
PS1~Grandia (unfairly criticized for not being on par with the SS original visually, it's still the best RPG last gen)
N64~The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (literally the better than OoT in every way, as close to prefect as games come)
Sat~Daytona USA (still the best playing home release, even if she's not too pretty)
Crandle said:I think Dynamite Headdy is seriously underrated. It's one of my favourite platformers ever. The central mechanic/gimmick is still brilliant and something that's probably only possible in 2D (which is a good thing, since 3D platformers tend to...suck). And the bosses are all fantastic. And it even has a great shooter level.
