Multiple independent sources reporting FFVII remake for PS4

If our 'insider' info is true, I just need to wonder what can be accomplished in a FFVII remake in two year of development.... especially since they also need to develop FFXV concurrently.

If it is true... maybe just asset upgrade/standard PS2-level graphics overhaul? I don't know.

Very, very likely not an AAA remake if rumors are true.

A full-on big budget remake of FF7 is never going to happen, but a limited remake is bound to happen eventually. FF7 is the most popular in the series, and if you told me that Square had ported FF4 to graphing calculators somewhere along the line I'd believe you.

So considering how much technology has advanced since the original PS3 tech demo 10 years ago and knowing Square's history, this rumor is very believable if it's a downloadable remake that only brings the game up to PS2 levels of fidelity. It being an AAA $100 mil production is not realistic.

Honestly a high res PS2 version of the game is all I ever wanted. The original game aged pretty poorly, like nearly everything on the PS1.

Can't give my word on the crazy Shenmue rumours but the FF VII remake is a real thing. They started production a few months ago and it will be announced this week for a 2017 release.

The Last Guardian is coming back too, Sony PR guys are giving appointments to the press and they plan to release it during the holiday season since Uncharted 4 is delayed until 2016.

What is this?

mess tbh.

In the unlikely event of this being true, I hope they don't emo Cloud up too much.

I always got the impression of him being cocky and self-assured
(at least until his mental breakdown).

Uh...

...Okay I won't dismiss the possibility out of hand. However, I'm not sure what internal development team Square Enix has left at this point to undergo such a project. Remaking FFVII would be an immense task, especially if you're doing it in a modern engine. Additionally, SE only has a few really effective teams since they started re-organizing things. One's permanently on tap for FFXIV, another is working on XV, then there's the Kingdom Hearts team working on KH3.

So, for this to be true they'd have to have had another internal development team, that's been squirreled away quietly for years working on a FFVII remake. I have a hard time seeing that. Maaaybe if this was a more modest remake, but that seems unlikely too. Don't get me wrong, this would be megaton. I'm just not certain it's even plausible right now.

Sony conference tonight.

-"One more thing".

-The Last Guardian re-revealed.

-Crowd goes ape shit.

-Trailer ends and stays dark for 10 seconds or so.

-Music that everyone recognizes starts playing.

-It's the opening cinematic for FFVII using their current engine technology.

-Trailer ends with "Re-live the fantasy only on PS4.

-Paramedics begin rushing around frantically helping those that just had a heart attack.

-Shawn Layden appears from the darkness with sunglasses on and drops a mic on stage and walks off with the FFVII fanfare music playing.

-GAF servers burst into flames and the site is down for 5 days.

E3.

This would be so amazing. I hate it when they end their conferences without any "one more thing" megaton. So disappointing when it just... ends.

I'm not saying that I believe the rumor is true, albeit, I would lend Siliconera some credibility. They seem to be one of the few media outlets that tend to be able to distinguish/differentiate hearsay from valid information. I'm giving them the benefit of doubt.

Siliconera wants to ruin Sony's E3 conference by overhyping us to dissapoint us once we see they don't announce it in this E3?

I've gone pathetically full circle in the space of about 5 minutes.

I believe.

What's another year of hurt and disappointment? It's the same with sport, you learn to take it.

FF7 and TLG are happening :)

FFVII and TLG, regardless of their respective outcomes, they're the gifts that keep on giving.

In a world where these two, FFXV and Shenmue 3 were released, I wonder what people would obsess over. Secret games I guess.
