I live in Canada.
I'll be visiting London, UK next month.
Although most of my time will be spent in the city, I'm planning a 5-day side trip to Paris.

I was wondering whether I should blow all 5 days in Paris, or if I should also visit some other places around the area? Suggestions? I'm sure there's more than enough in Paris to keep me busy, but I wouldn't mind travelling a bit.

Also wondering what there is to do in London...

Spend two days in Paris, take the train to Berlin and spend the remaining days there. Paris really isn't what it's cracked up to be. London, on the other hand, rocks. As does Berlin.

Make sure you were "I'm a Canadian" T-shirt when in France!!

Spain is where all the action is baby!!!

My favorite European cities are Vienna and Amesterdam. Berlin is cool though. Paris needs a week by itself...

I suggest a couple nights in Amsterdam. Awesome city -- particularly when stoned. I got back to Dublin after a four-day trip and spent my remaining days on the couch recovering. haha

I'm heading to Europe myself in June. My friends and I fleshed out our trip a little more last night. So far:

7 nights in Glasgow (my sister lives there, so I'm staying longer than any other place) --> 2 nights in London --> 2 nights in Rome --> 6 nights in Greece (Athens + islands) --> 2 nights in Berlin --> 1 night in Glasgow

That is very rough. Might add/remove days from certain countries or skip some altogether.... hopefully not

Good to hear about Berlin, though I'm still not sure. I spoke to someone from the Czech Rep today and they said Berlin is nothing special, besides a handful of buildings.

London is overrated. Go to Paris with your g/f.

Barcelona is also pretty cool to hang out, as is Milan.

Agreed, Barcelona is a must-see (or experience, to be more accurate..). Madrid too, if you can, it's different from Barcelona but equally cool.

Unless you are staying that long for family reasons, 7 nights in Glasgow seems a bit excessive (and I live here).

Like gofreak and Hooker told you you've to come to Barcelona!!! I live near there and it's a beautiful city to spend some days, although I prefer the Pirinees but there isn't any big city near that.

Copenhagen's quite cool too, but seems a little bit off your route :). As a town pretty compact (around 2 million inhabitants), it has a nice centre, and Christiania is definitely worth a visit :).

You will never be bored in London. I have been countless times and still have things I still want to do. I live in Liverpool and although it is a great city that is more to do with living there. Its unlikely that a day could be better spent in Liverpool than Londo but that depends on how long you are going. If you are a football fan (Liverpool are one of the most successful clubs in the world and easily the most successful in England) or a Beatles fan then it may well be worth it. Liverpool is more a city to be absorbed with time than to visit.

Hope you have a great time.

You better chain up those pockets when in Barcelona. Pickpocketing is widespread and odds to get robbed are disgustingly high, I'm sure ourumov can attest that.

Mind sharing what you do in London? I've lived here all my life, and my friends and I still have nothing to do. :lol

Are you kidding? Paris >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> London. Paris is amazing ESPECIALLY if you have a significant other. I would've loved to been there with my girlfriend, that place is just oozing with love. Not to mention all the incredible food, drinks, culture, history, activities, night life.

Seriously, if you can make it to Paris you won't regret it, especially if you've never been before.

Geez, and here I thought Barcelona was one of the better places I've been to. Rome, however...

I definitely suggest both.

Glasgow is a great place for a few days, but 7 might be a bit much unless you really like shopping or fighting with neds.
Check out Optimo if you're there over a Sunday night. Twitch owes me a bottle of champagne.

Hate to break this to you but Christiania is not the same place anymore. You see the all the important political stuff is taken care of down in Brussels, so the politicians up here fight over stupid small stuff to make it look like they actually are worth the money we pay them. One day some politician dude had the bright idea of doing something about Christiania. It's a known place for drug traffic. Though not any heavy stuff. Mostly weed. A police force marched right in there and tore everything apart. Now all the drug traffic has basicly become local, so the police have less control. Nice going. Stupid to smash that friendly and charming place. Oh well life goes on.

I will add one of my favorite places in Europe: Lisbon. Not expensive, very beautiful, lots and lots to do no matter your taste.

And Benfica may win the league so there will be quite a party very soon...

I'm confused. Did you not see: "my sister lives there, so I'm staying longer than any other place" :p

I get along really well with her. We haven't seen each other for about 9 months and then won't afterwards for at least another year. So we're gonna hang out, drink, play soccer (she lives with her boyfriend, who is an awesome guy -- apparently fun friends, too), and whatever

Also, it was originally meant to be 3 weeks in Scotland, if you can imagine that. But my friend is moving to London and another is travelling there, so we're going to meet up after a short while and spend the last two weeks tripping around Europe together.

I went on a trip this past summer...

London, way too expensive. Make sure you budget enough for that trip... spending nearly 30 bucks for one attraction is a bit much.

Paris, on the other hand, is a lot cheaper relative to London.

Vienna was a beautiful place, although it's very museum-oriented.

Venice: Nice but pretty much 99% tourists.. A lot of the restaurants are run by Asians too.

Munich: Nice, modern... not much in terms of attractions though.

Rome, self-explanatory. A lot to do, half-shady police.

Hey RonaldoSan, when did this (trashing of Christiania) happen? It sounds sucky :/. I wasn't there for the drugs in the first place (wouldn't really make sense as a Dutch person :)) but the whole atmosphere there was very special. Actually reminded me of a French movie, Peut-être . Wouldn't be suprised if the director was inspired by places such as Christiania.

Well I'm not ourumov but I live in Barcelona as well. The risk of getting robbed is high if you look and act like a tourist. If you pay attention in places where there is a lot of people and don't wear your pocket in your back you'll be fine.
