My first run in with a stereotypical gamer.

This fucking thread.

I don't think I've ever seen someone wear a fedora in real life, only in pics on the internet.

A guy in one of my classes wore a pink fedora and a ponytail. Whispy goatee too.

I guess they think that they're being counter-culture.

This thread is hilarious. Goods = delivered.

Btw, if you think everyone else looks bad with a fedora and ponytail, but you are the one exception who can actually pull it off... You are right. Rock it bro.

All of the stuff he makes is gaming related. He made an Assassins Creed logo out of plaster, now he's making a Skyrim helmet out of clay and spray painting it.

We were talking about our spring break plans, and he said that he was going to sit at home and play video games all day.

I come back off of break and we start talking about spring break, and I ask him what he did and he seriously says

"I just sat inside and played Fallout all week."

He is GameFAQs.

Also, I asked him if he knew about NeoGaf. He said he doesn't mess with it.

Roommate of mine tried to seriously convince me that fedoras were okay (or other hats like that). He just didn't understand why you would never wear one.

White Collar is a good show (I've heard). But holy shit I hate how people think they can pull of his look, especially without that attention to detail in the style. He's also damn attractive obviously.

I've definitely met more than a few people who were uncomfortably close to the stereotype of "gamer." It's such a dumb word. I don't think anybody should self-describe themselves by how they choose to spend their extra time (movie-er, reader, music listener?). I will never believe in being defined by a single hobby.

in the OP you want him to shut the fuck up

now you keep talking to him.

This seems really made up?
We talked about Spring break and NeoGaf a few days ago.

He's the one that is always asking me questions and coming up with annoying jokes and responses to my answers.

He pissed me off especially today, so I actively avoided him.

What is the origin of the fedora thing anyway

Many miscellaneous "geek" guys started wearing them some years ago and it kinda became a thing, the problem was many of these people were obnoxious, loud MRA types and atheists that wouldn't shut up on the internet until the fedora became their symbol to detractors.

I believe this was part of why it became a thing to call them fedoras:

that's why "tips fedora" is used to mock immature atheists, but soon enough it became associated with MRAs and neckbeards.

Please note that most people in the internet have a loose definition of what a "Fedora", as in the hat, is, so often they'll call people with trilbies and other hats who fit the neckbeard stereotype "fedoras".

That's more or less how it happened.

Peeps like that are pretty much why I avoid cons. I dont wanna get stabbed. Like no joke, one time i was talking with a friend about a game and this wacko comes up and pulls a knife and says i better take that back or sum shit. We told him to fuck off and he did but these peeps are unstable.

I think quite a bit of those folks that go to cons would be unstable.

Maybe it shows my age (mid 30s) but that's not the stereotypical gamer I think of lol. That just sounds like a hipster. (I'm from Oregon lol)

nope, no definitely not - there is nothing hip about wearing a fucking fedora.

i'm an '84 baby, and i know precisely the kind of dude he's describing.

feel for you OP.

[honestly though, OP is a bit barebones, could use a bit more context?]

Yeah, I remember some wacko showing off his knifes once at a convention I went and just thinking what the fuck is wrong with that guy.

Studying IT, as well as having been to many cons, I can confirm they do exist in large numbers. My favorites are the ones who wear trench coats.

Worst part of gamer nerds is when they don't actually know what they're talking about, but can't accept any corrections.

Persona 3 came out in 2004 and was basically the progenitor to the asinine bullshit you see in games nowadays... Senren Kagura was a mistake... the real waifus were sophisticated and elegant.

What most of you here on GAF fail to realize, living in your little bubbles, is that fedoras are cool and get you the ladies. Keep living in ignorance.

You haven't known a fedora-nerd until you've met one that wears a bad suit with it and a dirty blanket like a cape that's occasionally altogether swapped with a onesie.

after this topic, next time someone asks my hobby or job, i'll reply "tax inspector"

at least that one is menacing and sort of serious.

I swear i haven't ever seen somebody wearing a fedora who wasn't also wearing a suit.

I really hope it keeps being that way.

Yo what

That feel when you try to use your Heelys to escape your feelies.
You can run but you can't hide.

How awkward is it going to be when he decides to check it out because you mentioned it and finds this thread?
