I know I'm going to get flamed big time for this.
When the DS came out, I was skeptical as almost everyone else and since I had a SP, I didn't even think of buying one.
About 2 weeks ago my SP was acting up (Battery LED was malfunctioning), so I figured I trade it in and get an DS. I'm very glad I did and enjoying it whenever I play.
Lately I have been surfing the net about PSP and DS comparisions and here are my thoughts:
Hands-down, the PSP has better graphics; however, the DS also has very good graphics.
I think the analog nub on the PSP may be a bit too small and looks a bit more gimmicky than the touch screen on the DS. On the Flip-side, the DS touch screen feels great and responds very well; also, I feel there is more potential for the stylus and will lead to more interactive games than on the PSP.
In the game department, Nintendo really messed up with the release titles (although third party game makers screwed that up, not nintendo). PSP seems to have a wonderful release lineup.
In the battery life department, it seems nintendo dominates. According to what I read on IGN, battery life for the PSP varies big time. if your going to play games with online on and speakers on (no headphones), PSP will run for around 2 - 3 hours. Not good for me and will disappoint alot of people who are going to use it for the plane ride or a long trip. The DS will run for about the same amount the SP does with the light on.
In conclusion, The PSP may have better graphics and better launch games; however, The DS has better battery life, a more interactive experience, and backwards compatiblity with gba games.
PS I hope both systems do well and we see 3rd party game makers support both systems, not just sony. Also, these are my views and will probably tick off alot of people.
