I'm thinking of upping my pledge as well. It's $100 now, but I might go for the Blu Tier. I'm waiting to see if there will be new add-ons or the like in the last few days, though. Or maybe a sale on the classic episode collection again that I passed on initially. I think Joel mentioned there was going to be new stuff that you could buy in one of the updates, but not entirely sure.

Wow:

For all we know, The level of interest could be "a whole freakin lot".

I mean, I doubt it, but maybe!

Do it, I can't wait for that Blu-Ray set with the likely Ballyhoo documentary included. I'm not going to personally, but people will have the chance to binge watch a new season of mst3k if they're so inclined. What a time to be alive indeed.

Okay, after the past 2 days, this is starting to look more possible.

If Wednesday nets $157,438, then the last 2 days need to raise 77.24% of the first 2 days ($379,394 and $620,404) in order to reach $5.5m. This counts $255k in add-ons thus far, but not further add-ons. If these numbers play out, I would expect $4.4m to be hit Wednesday morning.

My worry - such that there is one - is that this campaign's been unusually good at provoking mini-spikes every so often - more so than the average Kickstarter campaign - which may, possibly, have meant that it's pushed many of the donations/increases in funding that would have come late in the project much earlier than previously imagined.

It's only a theory, mind, it's quite possible that it'll have an ending spike of the usual size as well, of course. Just that this is playing out a bit differently than many other KS have, and I can see a way it affects the ending.

(Still expecting 9 episodes, or 11 if they get more granular; 12's definitely not off the cards.)

Well lot of backers are gonna bump there pledges, seeing lot of it in here already for example. And last hours is when the fence sitters jump in, so there is hope.

That's sort of my thesis, actually: the idea that mini-spikes have been generated so well during the campaign as a whole that they may have served to move those two occurrences earlier than they would have done in a campaign that was more dormant between the start and the end.

I'll be interested to see what happens. I do have to say that right now, it certainly doesn't look like the last few days will fail to live up to the first few!

I haven't pledged yet but I'm thinking I'll end up going in for the $85 digital bundle. Don't really care about any of the physical rewards (I got a MST3K t-shirt for either the 20th or 25th anniversary and worn it maybe three times :lol), but all new episodes + potentially 10 classic episodes is a hell of a deal.

$4555 to go until 9 episodes are reached, with the challenge deadline 22 minutes away. The final countdown is going to be like this, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure its already over the 9 episode mark - that "outside Kickstarter" counter only seems to get updated once a day. I'm sure we'll get confirmation of that very soon.

List of guest writers and returning MST3K crew:

Joel said:
DAN HARMON, the incredible mind who created Community, hosts the Harmontown podcast, and co-creator of the very funny Rick & Morty.

JUSTIN ROILAND, the other creator of Rick & Morty, as well as a very talented voice actor/comedian/artist, and a huge MSTie.

ROB SCHRAB, an original remote writer for MST3K, co-founder of the seminal Channel 101… and now, director of the next Lego Movie.

NELL SCOVELL, a long-time collaborator and friend, will be “in the house” too. She’s currently writing on the The Muppet Show but has worked on The Simpsons, Newhart and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, among others.

ERNIE CLINE, the New York Times best-selling author of Ready Player One, which will soon be a movie from Steven Spielberg! If you’ve read RP1, you know how good Ernie is with cultural references.

PAT ROTHFUSS, the New York Times best-selling author of The Name of Wind, has offered to have a “story breakfast” with me and go over “story beats” for the next series… and a few of you can join us!

PAUL & STORM, the hilarious musical act, W00tstock founders and stars, musical contributors to Despicable Me 2, my good friends and the hosts for Friday’s live “Final Countdown Telethon” will be contributing riffs and some special music!

DANA GOULD, the brilliant comedian and former Simpsons writer, who will also probably appear on camera as well for a cameo or two. But actually, that gets into the area of our Guest Cameos, which is a topic I want to save for tomorrow.

ROBERT LOPEZ, the EGOT-winning songwriter from Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon and Frozen, has offered to write some original songs for us!
Pretty cool, huh? I'm excited to have so many new faces and voices helping out. But I also want to make sure it's not "too" new – you know, even as the show changes, I want to make sure we're honoring MST3K's past.

So, like I said, we've now made offers to all of MST's original writers. While it seems like most of them won't be available to join us, at least for now, I still hope they’ll decide to join us later. We'll always be glad to have them back, even if it's just for an episode or two when they can spare some time.

And actually, I'm happy to tell you that a few MST veterans have agreed to come back and “Pitch” in – not just as writers, but in other creative departments too – to make sure MST3K still has the spirit of the little cowtown puppet show you know and love:

CHARLIE ERICKSON,or, as he’s now known in the international DJ scene, Chuck Love, was the musical genius behind the original MST3K theme song, as well as the arranger of the haunting “MST3K Love Theme.” Charlie will be back to work on some new arrangements for us… and hopefully some new music, too!

BEEZ McKEEVER, MST3K’s original “Prop Diva,” will return to design special costumes for the bots. (Watch for her special line in the credits: “Robot Fashions created by Miss Beez of Duluth!”)

CRIST BALLAS, our original MST3K hair and makeup designer – and a long time friend – will also be joining us in that department, as well as plying his real trade: creating Academy Award-winning special effects makeup!
And finally...

PAUL CHAPLIN – old “Pitch” himself! – the veteran writer (over 144 MST3K episodes!) will be back demonstrate his mastery of “the craft we call riff”… and more important, to show the newer MST3K writers how we did it back in the day!

Really pleased with this update though, the guest writers are awesome and it's just the kind of announcement that can lead to 5.5 million. I upped my pledge to $85, that tier just turned into a better and better deal.

This is the first Kickstarter I've followed from start to finish, but is this one better managed than other high-profile campaigns?

This one seems masterful.

It seems as though it's been meticulously plotted and planned in such a way that all these "surprise" additional incentives and short-term campaigns actually seem like they're surprises. No doubt this is all exactly how they wanted it to go.

It makes sense - if they fucked this up in public then that would be the end of MST3K for the forseeable future. No room for error.

Joel's a really smart, creative, entertaining guy. He just isn't always motivated to do stuff. It's nice to see him excited about MST3k again.

I'm sure he's not doing all of it himself, but he's also great at getting a team to work together.

Definitely, only a few Kickstarters have matched it (Pillars of Eternity, Torment). One thing they all have in common was the use of social media to help reach goals, enticing stretch goals that helped push the bar, great use of visuals/updates to engage with supporters. Cool add ons as well.

Yep. I've bumped up my pledge twice.

Downgraded my kickstarter pledge from $100 to $85. I really don't need the clutter, plus I live in Australia so shipping would be a killer.

Did however pick up the classic pack for $199. So im in for $284 all together!

I'm actually kinda bummed about that writers list. Too Hollywood. Not enough "people who are just pals shitting on bad movies."

I wouldn't say I'm bummed, but it is a tiny bit worrisome. I don't want the show to lose that Midwestern charm and become too LA.

That said, Patton Oswalt and now Dan Harmon, Ernie Cline, and Paul Chaplin being involved fixes one of my other concerns, that all the references would be too "young" for my tastes. With all those guys helping out, 80's references are a given! Thank goodness!

EDIT: just saw the list of staff writers, and never mind. I'm not worried about the show being too LA anymore.

IMHO, that sums up the whole reboot. Too much internet nerd pandering and Hollywood.

Here is a section of the update about the staff writers:

So, our next staff writers are mostly people I’ve met in my travels, who I thought were funny and who have a knack for movie riffing. They come from all walks of life:

One is a teacher at a Montessori school,
One works in a bookstore,
One does graphics for a college,
One is in advertising,
One writes for a women’s online magazine,
One has a local public radio show,
One does IT for a design firm…

See what I mean? It’s all over the place!

I wish people were more interested in getting information than they were in complaining
