Navigating the Astral Sea: A NeoGAF Play-by-Post Pathfinder Game

((Yes, you can cast spells through the glass.

We can't really be in combat until everyone is in the room, bug if you want to cast spells at him or yourself before it starts then go for it. Just remember that we don't know yet how long it will take for Menek to get the door unlocked.

Fleshbane is still restrained, but once everyone is inside we can talk about how to free him.

I guess I need to work on putting a map together. I'll do that while everyone gets into position))

((Yeah, I goofed on thinking I bought an item I didn't buy on the character sheet that would let him teleport. That said, I still have the gold to get it if you don't mind me fixing that oversight))

((Doh, sorry KM. Yeah it only takes a minute for Satra to open the door so you're all still invisible.

Axel, that's fine.

I will put a map together in the next few hours. Roll initiative in the mean time))

<I just dusted off Satra's now ancient character sheet and realized I am actually using Greater Mutagen, so I was getting +6 to Dex. Not that it changes anything, just wanted to correct myself.>

He answers, "If it comes down to it, I'll want somebody next to Aldebaran with a blade.

<If Menek is willing to do it, I can give him Stoneskin, maybe even Barskin as well if we have time.>

Shulmor looks in Satra's direction confusedly. "If the point of that is to kill him, why not fun him down? The element of surprise is already lost and an alarm already rages, I see no reason to use a more primitive weapon unless you have some scheme that specifically needs a sword used."

We do not even know if he has done anything wrong as of yet Menek points out as he guzzles extracts of Iron Skin and Long Arm while Satra works on the locks I trust that my extended reach and sword would be enough for whatever you are planning. If we find no evidence of his complicity with the disappearance of our allies we are to fly away with all haste. He then gives a Fortune Hex to Satra and Shulmor and starts cackling while drawing his rapier.

Init: 1D20+5 = [15]+5 = 20

((Initiative is 20. Anyone want a true strike?))

((Edited to remove displacement as it makes no sense))

((Shulmor's first round will probably be spent setting up buffs, and to drink it on turn two would delay a turn where he can do good damage. That and he should be targeting touch AC anyway, so he hopefully won't need the extra 20))

Oh yes one other thing. Please activate the visual record function of your devices
Menek does so and also casts Unseen Servant and gives it the phone with the instruction to hold it steady aimed towards the inside of the room.

((Sure if you've got the Stoneskin to spare. Might be more useful for Fleshbane though Menek is fairly squishy.))

Satra hands a vial of Stoneskin over to Menek, "You might need this..." And then sets several other vials on the floor so that they appear, "Haste, Heroism, True Strike, and Barskin up for grabs."

Shulmor looks down at the barkskin potion. "One of you probably needs this more than I do. Though if it comes to a fight, I will do what I can to hold his attention. My defenses are already near perfect, this would simply strengthen them further."

((Is it a move action or standard action to drink a potion? If it's a move I can get up true strike, desecrate, and smite all on his first turn. If it's standard, I'll have to drop desecrate to drink it))

((If that works, cool, I'll drink it now. But I thought the attack had to be made within a turn of when you drink it. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/t/true-strike
You gain temporary, intuitive insight into the immediate future during your next attack. Your next single attack roll (if it is made before the end of the next round) gains a +20 insight bonus. Additionally, you are not affected by the miss chance that applies to attackers trying to strike a concealed target.
.))

((Menek's 20 on initiative beat the bad guys, so the party goes first.

Fleshbane is currently restrained. Any character can free him by moving adjacent to him and spending a standard action. You may flavor this however you want, as suits your character: Satra and Menek would probably work with the machinery, and I imagine Shulmor might be satisfied in breaking it but it's whatever you want. If someone gets to him and frees him this turn, then Fleshbane will be able to act this turn. Once he is released, he will also regain access to his psionic abilities.

Viss is still trapped in the cell, but has a line of sight to any of the bad guys so she can cast magic that would affect them. Right now it's not obvious how to open the cell using machinery; a DC 50 Knowledge Engineering roll would allow anyone to spot the correct control panel without having to take any extra time))

Battle Music

Once the alarms sound and the need for stealth becomes moot, it's trivial to brute-force the door open by tearing out a few key wires in the control panel at once. It slides into the wall, revealing an expansive laboratory. At its center is a displeased Aldebaran, standing next to a horizontal and well-restrained Fleshbane. Sybil's dissected corpse is elsewhere in the room, and across the way, Viss is contained within a cell.

There are also a number of battle droids present, each of which is small; their arsenals are not yet clear.

Aldebaran notices the door sliding open and narrows his eyes. "Engage thermal imaging," he commands the droids, and then he smiles. "So! The assassin abandoned you in your time of need!" he says smugly. "Only the two of you then! You should have accepted my generosity and stayed away. Now I shall have to add you both to my collection!"

While speaking, he makes eye contact with both Menek and Satra, but Shulmor seems to have escaped his thermal vision.

((Begin Round 1))

((No idea who wound up taking the haste, but I'm pretty sure they're the only one who can reach Fleshbane this turn.))

As the door opens, Shulmor gazes first upon Fleshbane and Viss in imprisonment, and then upon Sybil's dissected corpse. "That is sufficient proof," a voice seemingly belonging to no form booms from the entrance to the room. Almost as soon as the words leave his mouth, there is the sound of a small blast as a torrent of energy swirls around the lich, forming a visible air around him. He walks forward, speaking to who are assumedly Menek and Satra while doing so.

"I trust your doubts have been resolved? To see your allies imprisoned and to see one of your number- your friend- dead at this automaton's hands is enough to remove all uncertainty that he has declared war? Let your anger flow through you, let your hate guide your arms, but do not fall into mindlessness in crushing this dissident."

"As for you-" Shulmor is now within 20 feet of Aldebaraan, his horrifying visage visible so long as the construct can see more than just thermal. "You have miscalculated gravely by assuming you only would have two to deal with. You have provoked forces far beyond what your mechanical brain can fathom." Shulmor crushes a jar of unholy water sprinkled with silver dust in his hand and throws the mixture around him, bringing an unholy darkness and ominous air into the 20 foot radius around him. "Your time of judgment is at hand. I have already seen that your kind are programmed to feel fear. Let us see if you can feel despair."

((Using smite chaos on Aldebaraan and casting desecrate to give Shulmor all kinds of buffs. If Aldebaran can see him now and isn't immune to mind altering effects, he needs to make a DC 26 will save or be shaken for 13 rounds. Map.))

((Is the entire room visible from the door? Basically is the Unseen Servant with the phone recording everything alright? Especially since we're still invisible and not blocking its line of sight? Does Aldebaraan detect as chaotic?

Menek can't make a DC50 engineering check

I'm pretty sure Shulmor took Haste

I'll go for Fleshbane))

The sight of the Valkyrie paladin pinned to the surface of the table like a butterfly and sliced open like an illustration in a medical text book shocks and horrifies Menek to his very core.

Oh Aroz preserve us. Sybil! What have you done to Sybil! he screams and spurred to action rushes in and hits Aldebaraan with an Evil Eye hex Splitting it to hit the drone at E7 as well

((Reduce all save rolls by 4 for 13 rounds . Will Save DC 24 reduces to one round. If possible would like this to happen before Shulmor's fear effect.

Updated Map. Don't think there's any AOO as they're flatfooted ))

((The whole room is visible and is being recorded properly.

I forgot about Shulmor's Detect Chaos. No, he does not register as chaotic. I'll go ahead and tell you that his alignment is Neutral Evil.

Since there was confusion about who has Haste, either we can retcon it to make Satra the one who took it, or Shulmor can redo his turn, if you guys want to free him this round. I'll allow either possibility))

((Wait, I thought I didn't take it because it would be of limited use to Shulmor. We kind of need to figure out who has it because if it's me, I need to redo my turn.

Dat post timing. I'll wait on what KM says to see if I should redo.))

((Hah. First time that people seem to not want to be Hasted. I wouldn't mind being Hasted but Menek can't make much use of the extra attack as he's not very fighty))

((Axel, if you redo your post it would be good if you move Shulmor either left or up one field because I want to cast Explosion of Rot on D9 so it will hit Alderbaran and 2 of his minions. Then again maybe as a Lich he is immune to necromancy?))

((I may have to take the haste just to redo the turn, then. It explicitly says undead aren't immune, so he'd get hit if I don't move, though he'd be almost guaranteed to make the save for half damage.

I'm in class right now, but I can type up a new turn in about an hour))

((I'm fine with slinging spells. Viss wants to see this guy punished as fast as possible. Besides, melee and arrows probably won't do any good against those guys anyway.))

((Ok, here we go. First part of his turn is the same minus the dropping invisibility to smite, up until he got to the stopping to cast desecrate.))
In a manner of moments, Shulmor fades into sight before Fleshbane. He reaches a gnarled hand towards the restraints holding the construct and touches them, declaring as if he's giving the inanimate object an order, "Yield." The machinery holding Fleshbane begins to quickly erode, and to speed up the process, Shulmor tears it away. "You are free. I presume your first order of business shall be the pursuit of vengeance against your captor."

Then, turning his gaze to Aldebaran, he adds "Your judgment begins now. To resist Shulmor is an exercise in futility, but I invite you to come understand the hopelessness of your situation." These last words seem to have magic in them, as Shulmor's armor takes on a dull glow on their conclusion. He draws the Conqueror, waiting for Aldebaran or his drones to try attacking.

((Moving to H11 to free Fleshbane and casting Litany of Defense as a swift action. If a diagonal doesn't work for freeing him, I can move to G11. Frightening Presence DC is still 26 if relevant. Map.))

((I need to put some distance between me and Aldebaran to be able to do anything w/out provoking AoO. If I augment Fold Space to use it as a move action, would that still provoke if I just vanish from the current square?

And presuming this isn't some big bad we run into repeatedly until the end, I call dibs on the death blow, even if it's just RP.))

((Yes, Fleshbane can do that without provoking.

No time to RP it now, but Aldebaran made his save and is not affected by Shumor's aura. I'll do the RP when it's his turn.

Also, I'm interested to see how Fleshbane reacts to something that's undead, and how that fits into his paradigm of Construct vs Living Creature))

Viss smiles as the doors burst open. Finally. She has to admit that she is a little bit relieved that the others have arrived. She might have been able to easily escape the cell, but not without leaving everyone else behind.

This situation was a lot more to her taste. Less thinking more attacking. And as much as she would have liked to tear that stupid robot apart bolt for bolt less drastic methods had to do for the moment.

Alderbaran's comment about the assassin not being there suprises her, though not as much as the terrible undead creature that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. She is even more surprised when it starts freeing Fleshbane and threatens Alderbaran.

She shakes her head. Whatever. She could still deal with this this once that metalic menace was dealt with. She concentrates on Alderbaran, imagining his robotic body rusting and corroding until only a small heap of iron dust is left.

((Casting Explosion of Rot on D9
13D6 = [3, 5, 3, 4, 6, 4, 1, 4, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2] = 46
DC 20 for half damage. If DC fails be staggered for 2 rounds))

Freed of Aldebaran’s constraints, Fleshbane’s resonance crystal retracts back into his chest and is secured in place by the shifting and locking of his armor and internal mechanisms.

“This is indeed a day full of strange revelations,” he muses as he notes the withered countenance of his rescuer. “I will decide what to make of you later.”

With the cracking sundering of space-time, Fleshbane vanishes from the reach of Aldebaran and instantly reappears several paces further toward the back of the room, superheated plasma wafting from his adamantine construction from the energy exerted in moving faster than his mechanical captor can react. As the light tracing his joints quickens its pulse and emits a faint humming noise, Fleshbane plants his feet and widens his stance as some of his components shift into a new configuration.

“Ensure that I am not interrupted,” he instructs.

((Augmented Fold Space to L10. I'll probably decide what to hit him with after I see how he does against magic, because I'm going to be surprised if he's not protected somehow. Or at least we loose our super DPS output.))

"Don't worry Dewie, I'm coming back to get you out of there!"

While being scanned with the thermal analyzers, Satra returns the gaze up to the droids, "They look like the archons..? Makes sense to use them in this underground room, they must be sewage infiltration models."

Once the rotted explosion clears, he says, "Not quite as helpless as you thought, huh, Aldebaran? I could've furthered your research but the temptation to torture must have been too thrilling, I bet. Let me show you what you're missing out." He drinks the only extract of the Polymorph and uses its power to become a small air elemental. I hope this works, he thinks, as he takes on his new form which he expects does not generate heat.

<Move to F5, drink Polymorph to turn into a small sized air elemental>
