NBA 2k14 Next Gen : OMG Trailer

There's one thing that 2K has over Live (and Madden and NHL and maybe Fifa) is face capturing.

It just seems they capture more faces whereas in Live and NHL, EA tends to go with generic faces for a lot of players because they don't have the resources (time/money) to do photo sessions or scans.

you're obviously blind..the assets, animations, and lighting are all way ahead of EA's "efforts".

These games have always had animation priority in order to make it look like real basketball. It comes with the package. Understandably, some people don't like it. It's there to create a realistic looking sim experience, even if it takes some of the direct control away from you.

But it doesn't even look realistic outside of long animations. Even in their trailers they only choose the longest canned animations. Their solution to patching the many oddities of their animation system is to just capture more random animations.

You're really going to jump down my throat because I didn't happen to praise everything and instead choose to praise only one thing?

IMO 2K presentation is better also. I still have fond memories of NFL2K5 halftime show with actual highlights of the games that were played

I only play NHL, but that's one thing I really want, is proper faces.

One thing that bothered me is Dwyane Wade looks way off. (He's my favorite player so I was looking for him)

Rest of the game looks amazing at least. :(

He looks flabby and sick to me. That's the Dwayne we all know ;)

I happen to think the animations look great. Sure it's janky sometimes. For a long time player of the series, it's almost part of it's charm.

There are definitely two camps when it comes to the way 2K does their animations. You either can't stand them, or you think it's one of the reasons the series is great. It's 100 percent reasonable to dislike the way they go about animations. It's not for everyone and is getting a bit long in the tooth. They'll need to address it at some point. But for now, as an NBA enthusiast, these games tickle my basketball sim itch in just the right way.

Any trailer with Phil Collins is OK with me. Also, holy fucking shit the game looks amaze-balls. That's what next-gen should look like, not that NBA Live bullshit.

The only hope for the NFL license is that EA purposefully allows the exclusive deal to expire so that they can get access to the license on the cheap rather than paying for exclusivity, thinking that (and probably rightly so) that 2k will fail to compete given that Madden has a ridiculous head start in regards to their development and overall mindshare.

Then 2k gets access to the license, loans the NFL 2k team Mike Wang and make a better product in one year than Maddens iterations over the last decade.

There's actually a chance that this happens, as EA hasn't seen significant gains (in fact the opposite) since making this deal. Madden sales have actually decreased, so they are seeing little benefit other than paying out more money to the NFL.

so much wrong in so little words

wrong? those little detailed animations they do get so repetitive, as repetitive as the yearly commentators. what they need is body language, which this game doesn't have. players should react to the situation. how many times has there been a player who just dunked and did a stupid celebration when his team is down 25? or a player going apeshit at his first foul?

i only said that because i thought you implied that face capturing is the only thing 2K has over Live and EA's other games. But really, just about everything is better about 2K.

I used to feel the exact same way for years. It will get to ya eventually.

looks great but why is it that defenders in the paint often seem to drift back? it's like there is no collision detection. look at kobe dunking on rose. rose starts his "block attempt" from a little out in front of the rim, but then he ends up out of bounds on the block attempt. this has been a staple of 2k and really bugs the shit out of me. there should have been a mid-air collision or kobe just going over him with contact, not the player magically drifting 4 or 5 feet backwards to avoid contact.

graphics look incredible though. what a fucking joke EA has been so far. i wish EA and/or 2k could make a competent baseball game so sony would actually have to try. i like the show but i feel like it hasn't improved much over the years.

i also wish all sports games had a setup as good as maddens CCM. EA sucks balls at a lot of things but they absolutely nailed this feature as opposed to 2k whose online leagues always have some shitty bug or don't work properly

I can feel Nba live ...is deeeadd. And 2K has been waiting for this moment for all their lives......HOLD ON. IF only they had the football license....HOLD ONNN....hold on...

Looks fantastic*

Maybe we can finally get that Madden game from that crazy render.

*I have little interest in Basketball, however I am as I write this getting paid to watch Vilnius v Panathinaikos in the Euroleague.

Played from 2K to 2K5, took a break and have been playing them again since 2K9. Sure, there are some things that annoy the shit out of me (terrible menu design, poor online code, hilariously bad coach models), the animation has never been one of those things.

It isn't, there's many things better about 2K... but face capturing is something that 2K has been better at for a while. They seem to do a lot more capturing than EA does which is strange given EA's financial muscle.

Watched the Youtube trailer and thought it was nice, downloaded the Gamersyde version and my jaw dropped. Game looks fantastic, I think I need to get back playing basketball games.

The league's work they just changed how they are setup and took some control away. That's why they hasn't been a GAF league since 2k11. This season the option to at least tweak sliders was given back..

The lighting, cloth physics, and skin shaders are the big things here. Those elements just add SO much compared to the current gen sports games.

From the iggy gif I can spot Felton, chandler, and bargs who all look good so color me happy. Gonna go to GameStop today to switch my preorder from WatchDogs to this.

Defenders usually drift back in real life because they rather give up a dunk than an AND1. That and they don't want to get posterized.

Otherwise you end up like this:

It happens all the time in basketball.

Hey pal, show FMT some respect. I'd like to see you be Santa Barbara Rec League MVP three years in a row.

Watching that almost gave me the feeling I got when I first played NBA 2k On Dreamcast. It was such a monumental jump in the graphics department. This is of course not on that level but it's as big a jump I've seen in a sports game since.
