NBA 2k14 Next Gen : OMG Trailer

This reminds me of how people thought the original reveal trailer for Infamous Second Son was all pre-rendered stuff even though Sucker Punch clearly stated it was actual gameplay shot with different camera angles. The NBA2K trailer clearly mentioned that it was actual PS4 footage with different camera angles.

The problem is that there haven't been yearly iterations of Infamous for the past 5 years.

And for the record, we have seen actual gameplay videos of Infamous. Snippets maybe, but they've been released.

In this case we have a game that was released 17 days ago on 3 platforms (PC, PS3, 360), is the same across all 3 just like it has been for the past 5 years, and it's being re-released for next-gen consoles only, next month.

Nothing stopped them from bringing the next-gen version to PC next month as well, and then the most skeptical of us would believe that this trailer is pretty real, because the PC version could definitely achieve such visual fidelity. Apparently they're skipping the PC this year though, and they haven't explained why.

Excatly. Why would 2k put 42 extra gigs? Of what? Phil Collins and Genesis songs?

Actually that would not be a bad idea, i love Phil Collins

The failure of Rock Band was that they never made a Genesis/Phik Collins version. That's probably why the franchise is DOA now.

Why all the excitement? There is no gameplay and these transition moments have always looked great.

I'm not sure how kosher this is around here but..... Ban Bet?

Probably because it would cost them more money than what its worth.

But yeah its still a total dick move.

Meh the PC version of 2k14 looks almost as good and is a lot cheaper.
I have the PC version and it looks like ass compared to this. Plays like ass as well.
Now Visual Concepts just need to apply these graphics to WWE 2K15 and we'll be good to go.
Yeah that will be the day.
Yea but the xbone version should look just as good.
900p
Video is 1080p.
Not on YT
I've never hoped for a developer to go under before

...But, I really hope some sort of reason happens where Yukes isn't making WWE 2k15
Kinda sorta agree.
Or shooting them like James Harden in the Finals.

I just watched the video again in 1080p and I am about to delete my PC version. Compared to this it's just atrocious; I might have my parents pick the game up for me during Christmas :).

They've said that they are building the next gen version from the ground up for it's first year. The only point you've made is that these aren't gameplay angles, but that's not saying anything because no sports trailer ever does that. Will you lose fine details from the 3/4 broadcast angle? Of course. Will you see every bit of detail from this trailer in replay mode. Yes. 2K games have always been about animation, and that's what matters when viewing the game from gameplay angles.

Damn that looks so good.

2k better have spent some time on those GM conversation graphics or it's going to be even more of an immersion breaker with those heavenly on court visuals.

Yes, and no. I haven't bought 2014 yet, I played it for a couple of hours at a friend's house, but with the exception of the roster changes and the Lebron mode, it's the exact same game with 2013.

I think it's a dickier move to constantly release the same base game every year, w/ different rosters and new modes. The "my player" mode is almost completely unchanged for the past 2-3 years, the player model is always the same, the conversations are always the same, it's like they didn't even try to revamp it somehow. :-)

OK, fair enough.

I'm just saying that for me, this is not actual gameplay footage, just a collection of random scenes.

This is like borderline trolling. What kind of visuals were you expecting from next gen consoles?

Looks good but, do the coaches look any good? Do the regular players (not stars, so 70 percent of the game) have comparable quality? Are the physics better? Does the game still have terrible online? Are the meus still awful? Is the gameplay still broken and unintuitive?

Not the same game at all completely revamped control scheme.

I just started buying 2K sports games beacuse they were only $20 back in teh PS2 era. That alone sold me on them. It was 2K all day for me then...

I agree that the My Player and Association modes have been stagnant for years, and it's really frustrating. UI feels like it needs a total facelift as well.

The Jordan and Legends motifs were both stellar though, made those particular games worth it easily for me, and I'm still a fan of the on court action. I expect more tweaks to the overall package with next year's version, but a half decent NBA Live 14 would go a long way towards pushing 2K to do even better work.

Good enough visuals (surely better than PS3+360), that a strong PC can definitely replicate with ease.

Next-gen consoles haven't been released yet, so I do not have an actual frame of reference for the graphics they can produce. What I am trying to say is, watching at the trailer, I can't think that "OK, the PS4 can definitely produce these graphics", simply because I don't have a PS4 yet and there's no precedent of such graphics in the NBA2K franchise.

The 2014 control scheme is almost identical to the 2012 control scheme. 2013 changed things a bit.
