Like they need it.....
They do need it though. That roster is not as strong without Iggy. With Iggy gone that roster is just Zaza, Javale, and a bunch of bums. I guess that Durant fella is alright but that Curry guy... I swear I've never seem him make a 3.

Trust me, take a look at all the free agent vets out there. Just find one that doesn't have a ring yet and he will probably find himself on the roster at the vet min in the next couple years to get a free ring..

They are stacked with the big 4 they have now and nobody is going to touch them....

If the Spurs can bring back Ginobili and Simmons and swap Mills for George Hill, wouldn't that be a very productive off-season?

They would upgrade at point, get another leap from Kawhi because he gets better every year, and get in house development from Bertans, Murray and Simmons.

Hill/Parker/Murray
Green/Ginobili
Kawhi/Simmons
Aldridge/Bertans/Anderson
Gasol/Dedmond

I know Hill isn't the most exciting of signings but I would really like that team. Maybe they lose Dedmond but even he didn't really play in the playoffs last year.

It hurts their depth.

They could sign someone else. Maybe younger but not as good.

This is anecdotal so I haven't seen whatever advanced metrics, but Thompson played Lebron pretty decently in the finals when it happened. Forced him to pass out of the post a few times and miss shots. So Thompson green and Durant can try to check him. Iggys swipe was clutch tho.

George Hill would be a pretty nice upgrade for Minnesota assuming hes healthy and thats happening.

That said Rubio is infinitely more fun to actually watch play. Bummed the Rubio era is actually ending if it is.

Hill is a better scorer. Rubio is better at everything else.

Defense? Hill is a pretty good to great defender. Rubio is too but I would not say he's better than Hill on that end. And Utah already has limited shooting with both Gobert and Favors playing significant minutes, adding Rubio in a lineup with those two would mean the Jazz would have zero spacing.

FUCK KYLE LOWRY WHY NOT JUST A FUCKING SIGN AND TRADE FOR HILL GODDAMNIT

Kyle Lowry is really good. Like... really good.

Still I can't believe they're doing this deal unless they have something in place. Because they're going to look dumb as hell if they're dumping Rubio without an actual replacement lined up

He's also 31 years old, probably going to get paid close to $25+ million a year, and the team is going to be cap strapped so they'll have like zero bench. God I fucking hate this. Ricky toiled here for years, and will get traded right as they're on the cusp of being decent. And it might be to replace him with JEFF FUCKING TEAGUE instead of Lowry.

Kill me.

HE'S 31!!!

I DON'T WANT HIS EXPENSIVE OLDER ASS ON THIS TEAM

HILL IS SLIGHTLY LESS PRODUCTION FOR SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER ANDD THE SAME AGE IF YOU WANT TO DO THAT SURE BUT CHEAPER!!!

They might go for Holiday, or Lowry, or Hill, or even Teague. Hell, even Patty Mills, which probably gives you room for a good power forward too

They dumped Rubio to replace him with a guy significantly worse than Rubio? That would be beyond awful.

I really can't fathom them moving on unless its for an actual upgrade so either Lowry or Hill.

They need to also upgrade their bench and have multiple positions of need...

Wolves owner Glen Taylor has resisted trade proposals for Rubio all week, including this morning according to sources. Something changed

Welp, the point guard market, which looked like it had completely contracted due to the Sixers, Kings, Nets, etc. all getting point guards and thus preventing free agents from getting leverage on their incumbent teams, seems to have blown up again.

Rondo will lead the wolves to sucess, I can see it
Kill me.

George Hill and Jeff Teague both project to be worse than Ricky Rubio next year and they'll cost more money. Unless they can sign Lowry, which will completely strip them of a bench, this is a fucking horrible move. God fucking dammit.

I think it has to do with the Jazz losing a bunch of trade exception space today, and not being able to do a sign & trade until July 1st / 7th.

EDIT: That said, Boston is getting Hayward for sure. I think Hayward told Utah already.

Rubio is a good player for a lottery protected pick. Had $16 million to use so didn't have to match salary. I like it. He's younger and cheaper than Hill. Our shooting worries me, but we have a good coaching staff, they'll figure something out.

If Lindsey thought that he could get Hill for a good deal and that it would keep Hayward around then he would (or will) do it. Jazz fans acting like Lindsey just signed Haywards walking papers on purpose.

George Hill would be a much better fit with that group because of his 3 point shooting. Lowry too, but the last few years of his deal would be bad.

Rubio is a good PG but he doesn't really fit with that core.

Ricky isn't a good pull up shooter, but he's much better at catch & shoot. Both Butler & Towns can pass it a bit. Also he's a rugged defender.

They're saying Jeff Teague is the favorite to get signed now. I despise him. He's significantly worse than Rubio. Fuck this is awful.

I mean, I'm sure he's better at catch & shoot but I'd be very surprised if he was anywhere close to league average. Having a guy like Lowry or Hill would do wonders for the spacing of that offense. Teague would be a disaster though.

Rubio can't shoot. He would be amazing in a time full of shooters. Next to Wiggins and Butler? Yikes.

George Hill will be great on the Spurs. No way they can let him escape. I remember reading how Pop was very close with him. Him, Kawhi and Simmons will give trouble to any team in the perimeter (defensively).

Can you imagine going from working for Gilbert to working with Dolan? The guy must hate his life.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/6kixlv/lowe_people_often_ask_me_why_would_someone_leave/
From his Lowe post with Ramona Shelburne yesterday (6/29).

People often ask me like why would someone leave Valhalla like the Spurs or wherever, whoever, someone leaves wherever to go work for this disaster show in New York, it has the same appeal I think, forget he money, well don't forget the money, the money's important but it has the appeal of like going to coach the Kings right now: if you succeed you're a miracle worker and if you fail it's everyone else's fault because of course you failed, it's the Kings. They fail, they lose. That's what you do. It's just a complete win-win, and you get paid an enormous amount of money.

Yes, James Dolan seems like an unpleasant fellow to deal with on a day to day basis, whether you're a fan or Charles Oakley or someone who works for the team or someone who plays for the team or a someone who is an executive on the team. But if you succeed you are a God here, forever. Because of all the other stuff that came before.

Shelburne:
And not to undue your metaphor with coaching the Kings, but like if you succeed in New York? I mean, you're the King of New York! That's the draw and it takes a special personality to handle that.

Bye ricky... really did enjoy watching you play for years... also just overall a good dude with a fun personality. I would have loved to see you play with this team and spend the money on support but oh well. Hope they go big to replace you because when you have 3 people on the team that need the ball a pass first PG seems like a good fit.
