The C's were the one seed / 2nd best team in the east and are adding three first round picks. I think you're overreacting. I'd love to get Hayward and it would have been great to get PG but they're still in a great position.

They were the 1 seed with 53 wins and made the conference finals in a terribly weak conference. I think you're overstating how good the roster is right now. They are still miles away from being a contender. As in they need a number 1 and number 2 option. They could have had that by now. They could have gotten Butler, they could have added George. They chose not to. And now why should Hayward want to go there?Him added to their current roster is still nowhere near good enough to be a contender.

They may exit this off-season with no number 1 or number 2 option still. And who knows when the next opportunity will present itself. Star players aren't available that often.

Gawd Imagine if TOR decides to blow it up too. The East wouldn't even need a first rd to the playoffs just send them all to the lottery.

They didn't wait because Boston didn't make a better offer. If Boston offered any of their best assets, they would have waited. Brown, Tatum, 18BRK pick and 18LAL pick are the Celtics 4 best assets. If you don't put any of your 4 best assets on the table, don't expect to get a deal done.
So if Indy asked Ainge for that haul for Oladipo and Sabonis you'd do it 😂

Memphis among the teams showing interest in ex-Kings guard Ben McLemore, league source told @TheVertical.

I could see him being a second-draft kinda guy, especially under Fiz, who has a history of getting the most out of wings.

It makes more sense to eliminate conferences

Ass teams in the east I.E a majority of them would have a better chance during the lottery

Change playoffs to seeding 1-16

Idk why they haven't done this

They wasted an opportunity to give up a brk pick and young players for a rental... Not really.

They probably didn't need to get rid of a young prospect AND a great pick. If they put Tatum on the table, with the other less valuable picks they have, that might have gotten it done. I'm not saying they should have thrown the Pacers everything. Just offer 1 of the top 4 assets. Just 1.

There's a good chance that happens but it's still not a bad position to be in to have a good team with a ton of youth coming in. Most teams would kill to be in the Celtics position.

The Pacers traded him for Oladipo and Sabonis, I think 1 of those top 4 assets would have been excessive. Especially without finding out if Hayward is coming.

Ainge knows this except he thinks he'll land one in the draft, still pissed about Tim Duncan all these years later.

Best of 16 has made sense to me forever.

There's no reason to have conferences, either go with divisions that matter, or gut the whole thing and best 16 make it.

Usually not the goal for a rebuilding team. Out of CHI, IND, ATL and TOR the Raptors probably would still get stuck in the 8th seed against their best efforts.

Exactly. There's no way to tank unless they trade DeRozan (and given how the rest of this off-season has been, they'll trade him, and to the West too)

Now Blake signed too but no one to lob them the ball unless Doc River's seed becomes the go to which is most likely

Best expansion would be to add 12 teams and do an EPL style promotion/relegation system.

21 teams per Division. Each team plays every team four times a year (4x20 = 80 games a season.)

Top 16 teams play playoffs and the bottom 5 teams get relegated. The 4 teams with the best record in tier 2 and the champions of the tier 2 bracket are promoted. If the tier 2 champion is within the top 4, then the team with the 5th best record gets promoted.

The Number 1 pick in the draft goes to the to the winner of the Tier 2 playoffs. The next 4 picks are given to Tier 2 teams based on who had the best regular season record. All 42 teams would have the same salary cap and player pool.

This would be great as it would essentially double the amount of basketball being played (and watched on TV) while only adding 12 new teams (40%) to share that revenue with. It would also be great for TV since the best teams would now all play eachother 4 times a year and there would be no more tanking.

They have an aging center and their top 3 guards are all going to be free agents after this year. This roster in terms of role players might be as good as it well ever be. If the goal is a championship, it's a major gamble to just throw away this upcoming season.

Yes, the Celtics had to offer more than any other team. That's the price of having the best available assets. But they still have plenty of assets to build for the future even if they gave up 1 of their top 4. They could be playing for a championship this year and building for the future. They have made the decision to NOT play for a championship this year.

Honestly you'll catch flak for this idea but I think when the cable money starts to dry up we're gonna see the big 4 leagues try zany shit like this and see what sticks.

Problem is that he has to actually hit on a couple of those picks...

Not only hit, but hit big. They have all the necessary role playing guys. They need stars. So if those picks just become decent role players, they aren't actually getting any better. They would just be replacing solid rotation guys with younger, solid rotation guys.

Am I crazy to think Minnesota should target Waiters over Redick? Waiters shot 39% from three last year so even though Redick is the better shooter, it might not be as wide a differential as people think. Waiters is also a better creator and defender.

Oh, and Waiters is 25 and Redick is 33.

Lowry's market has all but dried up

This couldn't have gone better for the Raptors. They can resign him to a tradable contract and give it one more shot with Lowry and Derozan. If it doesn't work out, you can trade both Derozan and Lowry and have a great rebuild going.

The hornets are the only team in the east to get better this offseason. The Cavs are literally going to walk into the finals unless something crazy happens.

A 19 year old isn't going to be a difference maker in the playoffs this year. They aren't any better right now.

Dwight Howard isn't going to be a difference maker in the playoffs this year either. If the barometer is simply "does this enable us to beat the Warriors?" then Houston, Minnesota, and OKC didn't get any better either.

Dwight might help the Bobcats win a first round series. CP3 and PG13 give their teams a better shot at making a conference final.

Tatum isn't going to help the Celtics win an additional series or even a game in the playoffs.

Goddamn that Curry contract.

Makes UCLA + Under Armor contract seem like chump change

The 15-year, $280-million deal signed with Under Armour this week ranks as the largest shoe and apparel sponsorship in college sports history.

Westbrook + PG13 are gonna look nice in Laker uniforms next year. Homecoming.

Dwight Howard is not going to help the Charlotte Hornets win a playoff series in the year of our lord 2018.

If Toronto decides to rebuild, Charlotte might be a 4 or 5 seed in the East. Atlanta, Indiana and Chicago were all playoff teams that most likely will be rebuilding. And say what you want about Dwight, but he's still an upgrade at center for most teams.

Not with Milwaukee and Miami still ahead of them. Even if Toronto blows it up and Millsap walks, Charlotte's ceiling is still like 42 wins and the 6 seed where they will get waxed by Washington. They added a treadmill player to a treadmill team.

The Hornets did not even make the playoffs this year. They added Dwight Howard and drafted Malik Monk. They should at least make the playoffs with both the Pacers and Bulls getting worse.

Sure, they should definitely be a 6-8 seed this year depending on Lowry and Millsap.

I'll give you Milwaukee but not Miami. They very well could lose Dion Waiters who was very important to their 2nd half success. They also benefited from Winslow's injury because they replaced him with guys that can actually shoot. Despite his talents, Winslow is a tough fit.

Also Washington is not guaranteed to be good. Bradley Beal, despite being healthy last season, is an injury risk and they have very little depth to overcome anyone missing a significant chunk of time.

Charlotte could very easily be the 5th seed next year.

CHA would have to win the division to be seeded that high, which is possible but let's wait til the majority of free agents settle this week before crowning CHA Southeast Champs.
